didn't want to hijack the other phone call thread.

I started getting silent phone calls in may on my mob, number withheld, when i answered it, the caller would ahng up, sometimes before as well, sometimes they would hang on for a bit before clicking off. :ast few days the calls have been getting more and more frequent, and last night i started getting texts from a number i dont know. I replied to one, asking who it was, and got more replies, but not answering the question, so i ignored them. Today i got more texts from a diff number i dont know, along with the other number, and the silent calls. Dh answered one of them and could hear background noise before they cut off, my (male) friend answered some more for me, they cut off again. When i got another text dh called them, as the number was displayed (second number that has appeared) and told them not to call or text me again. They have continued to call and i have just received a text from the first texted number, saying " i don't know who you are but pray that i don't find you"

I know i have to report it to the malicious calls office of orange, and get my number changed, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced it, and what the outcome was? It's really freaking me.

Tia

Hi,
Just to add a bit to this thread, I had someone call me a few years ago on my mobile and leave some revolting and upsetting voicemails, he always managed to get straight to voicemail and not talk to me, on following it through both vodaphone and the police said that they do not take thing seriously until there are at least 3 calls. I reported it to the police but the guy used a prepay phone so they couldnt trace it. I learnt a valuable lesson though........... as it was a work phone I had left a message myself on the voicemail so that colleagues knew they were through to the right number, he used this against me and called me by my name, which freaked me out big style.
So now I just use the standard providers message.
Hope you can follow your case through OK.
My thoughts are with you

Lou

orangesaid noone can speak to their mailicious call office, they had to contact them, and then a note would be put on my file, but they wouldnt contact me, so i called the police.

police have taken a report, they have 2 mob numbers to go on, and said they have enough to prosecute if i want to, so they are going to investigate it.

am just waiting for my new number from orange

glad the police are taking it seriously even if Orange aren't

We had something similar happen - both texts and calls. Texts were very "teen orientated" - lots of text speak, lots of swearing, really aggressive. Calls also just really aggressive swearing. I would definitely pinpoint it as bored teenagers who particularly like getting any response at all. The difference was that this happened to us when DH got a new phone/new number. I strongly suspect he had been given a recycled number. He took it back to Carphone Warehouse pronto and gave them a bit of gip (they were pretty uninterested as I remember) and they said the police had to be involved. It was very clear cut for us - brand new phone, brand new number and the only people DH had by then given the number to were me (lawyer) and his father (retired doctor in his late 70's). Basically they switched the number - bet you the next punter at Carphone Warehouse got the old one. My advice would be be really persistent with the police and Orange, accept that you may need to change your number and don't respond to the calls or texts in any way at all.

getting funny phone calls is horrible. I used to get them alot but they got board in the end though. I ended up with 2 phones, one for buisness (ann summers hense the perv callers) and one for pleasure

lou33 · 22/06/2005 19:05

dh would hit the roof if i added another phone to my list of communications!

How are you feeling about the calls now? It must have been quite scary?

lou33 · 22/06/2005 19:16

Good, its the only way they'll learn.

I hope the police catch them

Surfermum · 22/06/2005 20:00

Good on you for persuing it. I'm pleased the police took it seriously.

lou33 · 22/06/2005 20:04

well i have numbers, so that must help

the policewoman was really nice actually, spent about 30 mins on the oholne with me logging all the calls i had received and missed, and the text messages, times dates etc. She said if she were me she would change her number, because i wondered if they wanted me to gather more evidence, but she said they ahd plenty. She agreed the withheld silent calls didn't sound like they were coming from an automated dial out service, because they were coming mins apart, and interspersed with the texts and calls for which i have numbers.

Two things spring to mind. The first is that this person could be charged with stalking you - you now only need two instances of unwanted contact (and that includes phonecalls) for this to apply. Secondly, could it be that some bloke has been calling you for his warped kicks only for his wife to get suspicious when the phone bill comes in/she sees the last numbers called on his mobile - she, wrongly but understandably, thinks you're having an affair with her husband and sends you the "pray I don't find you" text?

lou33 · 22/06/2005 23:07

i think that whoever was doing this, was trying to get more info from me, because they started texting from one number, which i didnt reply to, then thought of texting from another number, saying they found my no on their other phone, and who was i?

when dh called the second no to say stop calling they said they wouldnt, and then i got the pray i dont find you text from the first phone.

does that make sense?

i know my number has been changed now, but i am still really jumpy when the phone has gone off, guess it will take a few days for me to relax
