didn't want to hijack the other phone call thread.

I started getting silent phone calls in may on my mob, number withheld, when i answered it, the caller would ahng up, sometimes before as well, sometimes they would hang on for a bit before clicking off. :ast few days the calls have been getting more and more frequent, and last night i started getting texts from a number i dont know. I replied to one, asking who it was, and got more replies, but not answering the question, so i ignored them. Today i got more texts from a diff number i dont know, along with the other number, and the silent calls. Dh answered one of them and could hear background noise before they cut off, my (male) friend answered some more for me, they cut off again. When i got another text dh called them, as the number was displayed (second number that has appeared) and told them not to call or text me again. They have continued to call and i have just received a text from the first texted number, saying " i don't know who you are but pray that i don't find you"

I know i have to report it to the malicious calls office of orange, and get my number changed, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced it, and what the outcome was? It's really freaking me.

Tia

report it. Ignore calls where you can!!!!!!!

Pixiefish · 22/06/2005 00:14

Do you mean if someone phones from your house phone to your mobile? There's a number you can dial before dialling the telephone number so that it cancells out the withheld bit. Not sure what the number is- something like 144 or something short like that. Phone BT to check

lou33 · 22/06/2005 00:15

will do that pixiefish, i didn't know that, thanks.

is there anyone local, maybe friends with teeny lads who may be being silly after an older woman?

Who is the MILF on this site? love that phrase!

hunkermunker · 22/06/2005 00:16

It's 141 to withhold your number - just dial that, then the whole phone number.

Lou, this is vile - hope it's sorted asap xxx

SaintGeorge · 22/06/2005 00:17

The prefix is 141 to release your number for that call only, so if home rings your mobile they should dial 141 first.

lou33 · 22/06/2005 00:17

not that i can think of. I asked dd1 who is 13 to go through the numbers of her friends, and she didn't recognise it either, nor does my friend who lives in the village, he went through his address book as well.

hunker- lou's phone is already withheld- I think she wants the number to show up if someone from her house phones her mobile so that she'll know it's family and won't answer the malicious caller who is also withholding the number. (I think)

hunkermunker · 22/06/2005 00:19

Doh! Got it the wrong way round - thought you wanted to withhold your number. Looks like it works both ways though?

SaintGeorge · 22/06/2005 00:19

Sorry, I got that the wrong way round. Hunkers right, 141 witholds number. It's 1470 to release it.

hunkermunker · 22/06/2005 00:19

God, Lou - don't listen to me!

Should've gone to bed aaaaages ago!

SaintGeorge · 22/06/2005 00:20

And I know I got it right this time because I just checked in the phone book.

lou33 · 22/06/2005 00:20

invisiblegirl · 22/06/2005 00:28

my friend's sister when they were at school received malicious phone calls and they had the police re-route all calls through them - was a nightmare trying to call Helen as I had to speak to the police first and tell them my name, address, phone number and purpose of my call! I cant remember if they caught the guy or not - I think I stopped phoning her!

lou33 · 22/06/2005 00:29

Orange and the police do take this stuff very seriously, these days. What this pr*ck doesn't realise is that they will trace him and arrive on his doorstep. Hopefully he'll get the kind of scare that he's trying to give you.
If dh decides to call the numbers again, get him to tell them that he's a police officer and is tracing the call.

lousH · 22/06/2005 12:36

Lou is going through it with the Police now.
Orange were no use Unfortunately.
