Hello, welcome, benvenuti

OP posts:
AlliwantforXmasisMcnultysbum · 11/12/2009 15:43

MM, I feel for you, hope your dp will be supportive in your new home...Can you take the girls' nanny with you? That will be another wrench...Very sorry... but you sound very strong, you will build a new life which will be better for you and your family. [think of all that chocolate...]

I bought all the presents. But I am sure I have forgotten something....

Camomilla · 11/12/2009 17:10

MM, goodbyes are always sad, but hey, you have all the joys of xmas. you might even like it there...

DS came back from school with his Bronze certificate for having 20 stickers for good behaviour/work [proud mum emoticon]

still only vague ideas for DC's presents... so far we have 2 dvds, 5 books for ds (not sure he'll appreciate them though ), might get this for ds, and the aquadraw for dd.... boh. no idea about DP, he asked for a sound card for the computer, and today came back from shopping with s.thing he put in a black binliner and said "you know not to look, this is for you" and left it on the stairs

AlliwantforXmasisMcnultysbum · 11/12/2009 18:24

Go and have a look, come on.

Whatever it is, it sounds big!!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 11/12/2009 18:38

Oh Masseuse, I really feel for you. It is so sad having to say good bye .
I was a huge emotional wreck when we left Exeter, even if I was actually happy to go back to Italy. Even now, after 2 yrs, I physically miss friends, our lovely house, my favourite cafe and a few more other things...

But I agree with Camo, there is Christmas to be looking forward to and all the adrenaline of the move, exploring your new neighbourhood, establishing new routines, finding your fav shops, etc. I'm sure you are going to have new, exciting months ahead.
And you can always come here, we can watch 10 things I hate about you (or squallor, your choice )

Francagoestohollywood · 11/12/2009 18:38

Camo, well done your ds!!!!!

Camomilla · 11/12/2009 18:38

no, it was s.thing small... the bin liner was I think to conceal...... not on the stairs anymore though, he must have hidden it while I went to get DS... uomo di poca fede

Yo, motherfuckers. I am hosting Have I got news for you. Do ya feel me! Come and drool, who knows, I might even show you my bum!

Camomilla · 11/12/2009 21:48

disappointed, did not see your bum

so, what are you cooking for xmas? I need ideas, as I want to do s.thing differnt. we always have crostini with salmon, then lasgne with prosciutto e carciofi, then tasca di tacchino ripiena con castagne and rosted potatoes/sprouts etc. think just because it's what I'd normally have back home, but I want to try s.thing else...

Sputnik · 11/12/2009 22:11

Can't help really Camo, we have spigola for xmas, it's surprisingly good with cranberry sauce. Well done to your DS!

I did not actually cry at DD's school show, though I did pmsl when the shepherds got up on stage (to the line "and each one carried a lamb) clutching Shaun the Sheep.

MM Franca makes a good point about moving, sometimes it can be good to have your life shaken up a bit. It may not be something you choose but new and positive things can emerge from it. This has been my experience anyway, speaking as someone forced to move several times!

gio71 · 12/12/2009 08:45

MM am for you. What day are you actually moving?
Buch I am fascinating by the 2 main posters on that thread. I am finding myself wanting to know what they do as they literally seem to spend all day every day posting on it. I find the level of involvement from the main defender especially fascinating also. She says she has nothing to do with the people involved but I find it incredible that you could feel that level of passion and interest in defending people you know nothing about? Or does that say more about me . boh!
Am in UK and BLOODY FREEZING! We are taking ds to go on a steam train to see Santa today though so am very excited (me more than him)
Minerva am re your school, sounds incredible.

minervaitalica · 12/12/2009 09:26

MM - I know exactly what you mean - the day I handed my resignation in the UK I was an emotional wreck. I had to keep myself very busy in order not to collapse in tears. I suppose you have to look at the positives: you are moving to another expats filled city in a beautiful setting and very close to Italy, and also maybe a more child friendly place? - I am a little jealous actually, stuck as I am in the periphery of the beyond (or that is what it feels like at least).

Camo, will you be in Italy or the UK? Ingredient availability does matter. Some ideas:

  • your could still have turkey, but change the stuffing: pork and cranberry, apricot and sth else, or even a classic stuffing but flavoured with truffle oil.
  • Rather than lasagne, what about some crespelle di castagne instead? Or tortelli with cardi? Or vellutata with celeriac/artichokes etc. It can all be prepared in advance.
  • if you do not want turkey, what about beef in a herby crust? Seabass or monkfish also good ideas

Just completed

Gio- quella per la difesa era fagiolino-b quando aveva un altro nome.
Boh- mi stanno faccendo incazzare di nuovo adesso.
We could all sit and google and cut and paste whatever we wanted from t'web to prove our point after all.

I cry at anything, I cried buckets at all of dd's recitas, strangely, except her final one, where I could have been expected to! Even now I choke up watching the dvds. I have a wonderful article that I cut out of cosmopolitan many years ago about "leaving". Basically, that if it doesn't hurt even a little, then you shouldn't have been there in the first place, and the degree of sadness we feel when leaving people, or places, amounts to the importance they held for us, so sadness is good! "Don't cry because it's over, smile because you were there".

(mind you, I cry at the X Factor, Grande Fratello etc on a weekly basis.

Mamy Penby in all her glory is in the wardrobe! Got my PON cheque on Thursday so we're having a splashing-out Christmas, and will worry again about bills in January.

Nigella does a fab pumpkin and goat's cheese lasagne. (I love goat's cheese in an almost abnormal, obsessive fashion)

Bucharest · 12/12/2009 11:19

I just came very close to closing my MN account on that fvcking thread.

Camomilla · 12/12/2009 11:43

mmmm, some inspirations there! will be in UK, as dp couldn't really take time off just after staarting (and he found out yesterday he's missed the xmas present as he started a few days too late to be entitled to... that f*ing job he went to, had he stayed where he was, he would have become manager or supervisor, whaterver it is in there, while I was on mat leave, and I would be on career break now )
yes, s.thing I can do the day before would be better (that's why lasagne it's always good), tell me tell me about the crespelle di castagne! as I'm always the one stressing out over the food on xmas morning.

I can't stop checking that thread, because as you said, I can't understand obsessing to that level about s.one I don't know, and no matter what they say, they weren't in court and who's to say that whatever is on the net is that accurate/fact etc... and as far as I've seen (the few links I dared click on) were very much "di parte" on AK's side, boh...

DP's working this pm, and then out for his xmas party tomorrow night, so hurray, 3 nights in a row taking care of the 2 monsters (finally dp lost it and shouted at ds, I was , as he's always good cop)

Camomilla · 12/12/2009 11:55

only just seen this morning's posts on the other thread! Bucharest, as you've rightly said, only they can play, and really only if you have your google folder at the ready. google, la bocca della verita'

Rosa · 12/12/2009 13:47

I haven't even been on that thread as I think I would probably have my account closed.
Gio we have the steam train booked for the 23rd - dd remembers it from last time and she has told minirosa if she is good then she will get a presnet as well... Minirosa will probably pull Santas beard off and eat it !!
Lunch we tend to do a mixture when we are here we have all pesce related stuff on the 24th then I do a salmon mousse in smoked salmon - it slight and fluffy witha few prawns . Usually then tortellini in brodo or I did canneloni with ricotta radicchio and speck one year ( before children!) then turkey stuffed from butcher . with a few veg and then a bis / tris of puddings to suit all tastes.
In the Uk its 24th M&S all the yummy things that you never buy during the year !
MM Bon Viaggio and every happiness and please post chocolate when you get a mo ....

Francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2009 17:53

mmmmmmmm Rosa, I'm loving your cannelloni with ricotta, radicchio and speck (hungry)

Camo, I like your menu, it sounds yummie... actually, taking some inspiration from rosa's cannelloni, how about making lasagne with radicchio, besciamella and pancetta?

Sputnik at Shaun the sheep
Ooooh, I'm big at shedding tears. I've just come back from the manifestazione to remember the "strage di piazza Fontana" (40 yrs in and those responsible of the bombing haven't been "found"... ) and I actually cried .

McNulty, I missed your lovely bum yesterday night... but we were out... and we are out again tonight Ahhhhhh the festive season!!!! (when you go out two times in a row after months of immobility )

Off to have a look at that thread...

Francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2009 18:00
Shock
Bucharest · 12/12/2009 18:12

Exactly.

Franca, do not mention Fontana on that thread or you'll have their fingers dropping off with googling saddo American conspiracy theorists for that as well. As Gio said, how much time are they spending going through all this stuff on t'web? Dp thinks internet forum users are bonkers/homicidal maniacs anyway, and after me keep filling him in "adesso dicono...." I'm beginning to think he's right. The translations are funny though.

Am feeling v v amara. Can you tell?

Francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2009 18:19

Oh no, I would never!!! .
Bucharest, when do you think the summer boden catalogue will be sent out?

Camomilla · 12/12/2009 18:23

bucharest, sounds like DP and me . but really, where do they find time for all that. was very tempted to post an accurate translation, but thought, what's the point, they're twisting everything to make it "fit"... like the "interpretation" of the interview

realy, should go and put the washing away if I want to use my bed - dd had 2 naps (after being woken up by ds) and very teary and clingy, so managed to bribe her with a box of raisins, so back later... have fun franca!

Francagoestohollywood · 12/12/2009 18:27

Thanks camo
at bribing dd with raisins...

Bucharest · 12/12/2009 18:28

Camo, me too, then I thought that one who has got it in for me would be nasty again so I thought fvck 'em and went to read a sleb thread instead.

Franca- Do you mean Spring? (I always get a bit confused with the mid-seasons with Boden)
Is there a separate spring/summer or is there just the one catalogue and then they add bits to the website? I'd have thought as soon as the winter sale is finished, which with the amount of stock they didn't have yesterday- and an English friend of mine found stuff out of stock that I'd managed to eget an hour before (!) it will be pretty soon after Christmas.

gio71 · 12/12/2009 18:34

just seen it - ma quanto sono pazze!!!!!!!!!!!!e maleducate!!!!!!!!!
Santa train was fab - ds in his element
