Haven't read the whole thread yet, but I love them as does Dh. Morrissey needs a bit of a kick up the jacksy though, I thought he was great (tortured artist etc etc) when I was 13/14/15, but he irritates me a lot now.

loved them when 14 and listened to them again the day John Peel passed away and nearly ran under said truck with depression. clearly I've moved on!

Thank you for reminding us all Katie that the Smiths were much more than Morrissey droning and posturing around at the front. Johnny Marr was of huge importance too - just look at Morrissey's subsequent solo "career".

Dh and I fall out big-time over Joy Division though. I love, he hates. This is a man who used to tap a toe to the Style Council though...

New Order are at Glastonbury and dh and I have been deciding which bands to definately make sure we don't miss. He circled New Order on the list and when I questioned why, he said 'well you love Joy Division, so, err, of course you love New Order'
