The Smiths
80s indie icons, centred around the lyrical talents of singer Morrissey and the amazing compositions of guitarist Johnny Marr. The clutch of albums and singles they produced in their brief career were of a quality rarely surpassed in English pop.

Morrissey has appeared on telly things about LA where he lives now, just being the old queen that he is

katierocket · 17/06/2005 13:05

well and also because you weren't even born when they were formed!

wish i was 21

noddyholder · 17/06/2005 13:05

he is too short for you Cam but not for me!

katierocket · 17/06/2005 13:06

yes, he's a bit grim now but I think it was a time and a place kind of thing. I couldn't listen to most of their stuff now

(shallow, moi?)

Cam · 17/06/2005 13:07

I would snog him though Noddy, just to shut him up

I like them; used to listen to them when I was a bit younger. Might have to get a cd out to reminise.

noddyholder · 17/06/2005 13:34

cam i am terrible because I even like him when he drones on and sounds like he knows nothing about what he is talking about

snafu · 17/06/2005 13:37

Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em.

They really make me laugh, with the possible exception of I Know It's Over which makes me howl and sob, usually whilst sitting at traffic lights. But, in general, anyone who thinks The Smiths are depressing isn't listening closely enough

Caribbeanqueen · 17/06/2005 13:37

Love the Smiths.

Yes, it's Whalley Range.

bee3 · 17/06/2005 13:43

I LOVE The Smiths. Takes me back to my university days in the 80s (see, I'm showing my age) and days full of new found freedom, youthful poetics, whistful longing, navel gazing and drunken dancing.
'There is a light' was the song for my then first love, and so many of the lyrics make me remember and smile. Much of it is very tongue in cheek and makes me laugh out loud when I hear it now. All you doubters just don't understand

SenoraPostrophe · 17/06/2005 13:47

love them.

ds has a smiths tee shirt even.

It isn't music to commit suicide to though - some songs are a bit whingey, but most are funny ("it was dark as I drove the point home, and on cold leather seats well it suddenly struck me, I just might die with a smile on my face after all"; "all of the good people have a wonderful dream. margeret on the guillotine" - thought that one might appeal to you, custy?)

Eowyn · 17/06/2005 13:49

Totally love them. Maybe it does help to have been 17 in late 80's.

dillydally · 17/06/2005 14:10

Love 'em
