T was great !!! I'm so relieved -I realise now how nervous I'd been for him...he did realise suddenly that it was a bigger deal than anticipated - not sure what he was thinking it'd be like -it was in the school hall - not a huge audience but enough to be nerve wracking ! One girl doing grade 3 I think broke down in tears as she went wrong which was awful for her -she very bravely came back before the interval to sing again. There was another girl in yr 9 doing same grade as T who sang very nicely and a really good trumpeter and girl doing grade 8 euphonium. Interestingly there was a yr 11 (I think) boy - very confident -who is doing grade 4 singing and he was v good - I hope encouraging for T. T sang really well, full of expression and the timing was spot on - I was incredibly proud. One of the mums behind me was in floods of tears after her dd played !

YAY! Did he enjoy it? I bet you felt soooo proud Tell him WELL DONE from us!

I've had a busy day, so am eating breakfast/lunch now PTA meeting this morning to organise Christmas Fair, then dentist and food shopping. Have E coming for tea tonight too.

Dentist is not good news. I have to have either an extraction or root canal done. Extraction free, RC £350 I'm terrified too... I guess it'll be the RC, need to hang on to my teeth, but the thought of 2 hours in the chair is scary warey.

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 02/12/2009 15:25

YES!!! WELL DONE T! What a star!

Ouch about root canal work hotcross, yikes... And does it really take two hours? That is my worst nightmare...

Busy day today, have only just walked in, gorged myself on two chocolate biscuits (large ones, sob) and now need to rush off as E has gymnastics. I hate Wednesdays, soooo busy...

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/12/2009 15:59

thanks ! T did enjoy it I think !
eek about tooth - I've had a root canal before and it was done in two goes -the first appointment to prepare the tooth and all the drilly bits-then a dressing was put in and the following appointment the rest done...not at all painful, just slightly twingy..honest,it wasn't as bad as I imagined.

Some days call for choccie biccies Hippi I'm sitting here with a cup of tea and some choc digestives to dunk, while B and E make Christmas cards in the kitchen. It is very civilised

TBH I needed a calm afternoon. I think I might have offended some mums at school asking them to volunteer to run our class stall for half an hour. I asked, they said no, tumbleweed... So I said we may need to cancel our stall due to lack of help and stomped off They wont be talking to me again, will they?

hotcrossbunny · 02/12/2009 16:12

Oh sorry, pressed send before I was ready. It'll be two separate hour long appointments. I'm not so worried about the pain, I have a major hatred of the noisy drill etc etc. I can't even listen when the drill noise is on TV I wonder if I could take my MP3? Do you think it would block out the noise?

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/12/2009 16:16

ggrrr about selfish mums - sod them !
And yes,I'm sure that having music would be fine and a good way to distract you/muffle the drill noise

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 02/12/2009 20:19

Sod the selfish mums - they only stomped off because they were embarrassed...

Today was definately a choccie biscuit day. Had two in teh staff room and two waitrose chocolate covered oat bars (divine) after school before gymnastics. Sob. There goes the diet...

Feeling tired adn headachy today. And a bit guilty. It is MIL's birthday today and because we are all so tired we arranged to see her at the weekend. But of course her birthday is today and when dh rang her she was full of 'oooh, E and K are here and C and P are coming later' type excitement. Feel a bit mean now. She only lives 10 minutes away by car. But the thought of going out again...
(that should be an ashamed emoticon)

MP3 sounds a great idea for the dentist hotcross, am sure he won't mind!

How is your new neighbour, have you met him/her/them yet?

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 02/12/2009 20:20

Oooh, just re-read, hotcross, you did the stomping? Perfectly justified, it might drive the message home

hotcrossbunny · 02/12/2009 23:03

Don't feel mean Hippi. Better to visit her and feel like being there, than drag yourselves there and not have the energy to have fun. Sounds like she's having lots of visitors anyway, so she'll appreciate seeing you at the weekend

I'm not a stomper by nature, but I was just so peed off... Glad you both think it was justified!

Dh has taken a bottle of wine and card round to new neighbours, met the wife and he says she's nice. Not much older than us, run the local boat house (bodes well as we love canal boating!) and have two golden retrievers. All good so far. Phew

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 03/12/2009 08:09

Ooo, great about neighbours! Any children?

What has ended up happening about the neighbour who wanted to buy the back bit of your garden to build on? Has that all fallen flat? [nosy]

How are you MAS? Is T on a high following his singing? And how is the whole Ad/CBT issue? I think it is very wrong that they would try to push you into AD's against your wishes. But I do have to say they worked wonders for me and my anxieties... I personally am not convinced about things such as CBT although many people tell me it really works and is marvellous
I think you have to be strong and fight your corner.
Why is everything such a battle though?

I realllly don't want to go to work today. There is so much at home I need to do, and I am tired and miserable and fed up and stressed and generally bleurgh! There are a thousand things I need to do and I just cannot find the time...

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/12/2009 09:58

yes, agree with what hotcross said about visiting MIL hippi- don't feel guilty - it'll be like spreading her birthday out a bit, which is nice and she'll see you when you feel more relaxed and rested !
New neighbours sound great so far
T seems pretty much as usual - he was late for singing lesson yesterday and had to be fetched this week and last because he'd misread the time (it changes every week) and came home drenched as he'd not put his raincoat on ! think he is pleased that he did the recital & am sure it has increased his confidence for the exam on Monday (and I hope he isn't late for that !!)
I am going to give the ADs a go -following advice really - I feel in a way that I have no choice if I did want to have a chance of getting any CBT - I think they might be thinking that ADs might be enough to improve things -and that might well be true..we'll see. CBT I do rate as it was the only thing that really helped me before - to be fair though I did the programme and took ADs too - these were fluvoxamine and were ok -unfortunately they don't mix with tamoxifen. I'm feeling a lot better already- I think it does vary from day to day, week to week...sometimes I feel fine, other times it's not so good. It is really in no way as bad as I have been in the distant past but I wouldn't want to slip back into that !!
Hope work was ok today hippi xx

OP posts:
hotcrossbunny · 03/12/2009 10:14

I think that sounds a good plan MAS. At least then they and you will know what does/doesn't work this time round. FWIW, my dad had Ad's and then CBT and he found the CBT most useful for him. I would imagine it's quite a personal thing, we are all unique and need different approaches at different times.

Sorry you're feeling bleurgh Hippi. It's hard to push yourself when all you really want to do is collapse in a heap for a bit. Do you think you're battling a bug?

There is a 10 year old girl next door who dh said seemed very nice. Our friend who was interested in buying the land said there just wasn't the space he needed to build a family home and has bought some land in Guildford instead. We were quite relieved TBH.

Must go - MIL arriving later! Have a good day.

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 04/12/2009 18:39

Hi you two

Good plan MAS, see how they make you feel, but keep asking for the CBT aswell.

Had a lovely day at work today so am happy with things there.
The house is falling apart. Right now I want to sell and move into a brand new newbuild!!
Missing slate a bigger problem than we thought - roofer is compiling a 'report'. (and no doubt a scary quote)
Fence to next door still down, don't know when we will get that sorted, need money first.
Bath plug fixing bit has just fallen off, dh has had a look and it can't just be screwed back on.
Not to mention the whole house is half decorated..., the garden is a state, our car is ancient adn falling apart and there are so many things taht need time and money spending on them but we are desperately short of both time and money... Sigh.
Oh, and the cat has been missing for two whole days now Have not told O and E yet, am hoping she will turn up, but it is freezing out there and she is old... She quite often used to go wandering off for days on end but that was in her young and healthy days. For the last few years she has never been gone for longer than half a day... Have searched in all nearby hedgerows (she likes to sleep under a hedge) and neighbours gardens etc. No sign. Will put food out again tonight but think the fox is eating it.

Anyway, dh is gone to collect O from H's house, buying a bottle of wine along the way, and it is the weekend, YIPPEE! (at least that is soemthing!!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/12/2009 08:53

oh hippi -am about the cat and do hope it turns up safely. Try not to fret about state of house/car etc - these things are worrying and the possibility of forking out huge amounts of cash for repairs is daunting - perhaps it's best to think of one bit at a time so that it doesn't seem overwhelming ?
I think on the whole I'd rather live in an old interesting house than a sterile box - leaky roofs and rotting bits included...much better for the soul
So glad that you are happy with work.
Have a good w/end both - hope all is going well with MIL hotcross.

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 05/12/2009 09:47

I agree MAS, I just felt completely overwhelmed by it all yesterday... We have a list of jobs which need doing and it is just getting longer and longer and longer...
Oh well, one bit at a time (and I hope the roof does not cost a fortune - fret)
But you are right, an old house with character is so much nicer! (not to mention that modern 3 bed semis - which are all we could afford - are so much smaller than my little house. Yes the modern house may have a garage and utility but at the expense of kitchen, bathroom and bedroom sizes...

One more question, for you too hotcross. We have a paved hardstanding out the front of our house, which just holds one small car if parked at an angle. We don't have a small car so we never park on it but it does mean we get the space on teh road in front of our house as the kerb is dropped. But the bare hardstanding looks ugly and teh house is very exposed. (we are on a main pedestrian route to the village and everyone can look into our house)
Now, the parking in front of the house is a mixed blessing as both us and our neighbours either side have big cars so parking space is tight. Quite often I cannot squeeze my car into the space left and my bumpers are damaged from one neighbour squeezing into or out of a space no matter what damage he does to the cars...(he is a fallen aristocrat in his early 50's with a huge sense of entitlement who cannot understand why mummy had to sell his porsche, honestly!)
There is the village carpark further up our road, however luckily the village centre is still busy enough that it is hard to get a space on Saturdays and the church is busy enough that the carpark is choccablock on Sundays. Rest of the week it is not too bad. Car park is lit and relatively safe (only twice in the past year have teenagers congregated there adn got a bit rowdy, once a car got kicked)

Now, I want to turn the hardstanding into a little front garden, grow a hedge, plant a tree. That would mean losing the right to park outside the house.
Dh wants to re-pave it (when, we ahve no money ) and put gates up. I worry the gates will be more to maintain, it will still look bare and we won't ever have a car small enough to fit on the 'drive'. Dh maintains it will be handy in the summer as we can park our bikes up instead of having to wheel them to the back garden and I think he is hoping to one day own another motorbike.
I can picture how his idea would work, and with some smart potted plants dotted around it would look quite nice. But the house would still be exposed to the pedestrians... (currently have slatted wooden blinds but want to replace them with something that lets in more light)

So, if it was your front garden, what would you do? If you were buying a house, which option would you prefer?

No cat last night, nor this morning....She was last seen on Wednesday, not looking good is it??

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/12/2009 13:10

quick opinion - keep the front as a garden -definitely !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 05/12/2009 13:11

I mean,make it a front garden !!

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 05/12/2009 13:18

I know, that is what I want.... But dh does not want to give up his 'right' to park outside the house....
I can see his point, I really can, but...

Plus he claims taht a house with off street parking, no matter how small, will sell better than one without. How true that is I don't know but when we spoke to an estate agent 7 years ago (before we created our hardstanding)he did say that people wanted to get their car near their house...

Sigh!

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/12/2009 14:27

I really hate seeing cars parked up on front gardens - but can understand the desirability of being able to park near your house...it's tricky

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 05/12/2009 16:08

I know. But we won't park on our front garden - dh just want to keep it paved (courtyard style) with gates so we retain the right to park on the road in front of our gates. Whereas if we put a hedge up we no longer have any right to that as there is no access - does that make sense?

But yes, I hate cars on front gardens too - our road seems to have a lot of people doing just that, it is a narrow road with only a pavement along one side... Rubbish road really, my main bugbear about living here.

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/12/2009 16:41

mm,well that'd be a reasonable compromise - I like courtyard gardens - my mum and dad had one in their cottage in Kew - it was very sweet, with a little pond in the centre

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 05/12/2009 16:56

I am thinking for something along the lines of this, but perhaps taller small trees to give me a bit of privacy... but similar paving....

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/12/2009 19:55

maybe with not the strangely shaped earth bits - sorry that makes no sense - where the trees are - I think it'd look less contrived with them being round shapes or square iyswim and def smaller trees as those seem a bit out of proportion..

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 05/12/2009 19:56

actually - loked again and trees look in proportion - I thin k the irregular planting patches bothered me !
