Hello! I've only just come on here, so haven't had any problems with MN yet. Sounds like its playing up a bit.

Glad the course went well Hippi. Nice to meet someone you know there too. About the swimsuit problem...I think it would be OK to wear the sports bra underneath. Better that than an embarrassment I know the problem about keeping everything contained in a swimsuit, and have ended up with a colour I really don't like for the holding properties of the suit. And they're sooo expensive

I'm not much use for costume finding. You could try freecycle? I know there's a costume shop in Haslemere, but don't know what they stock. Ebay?

The girls night in sounds lovely. I'm off out tonight to a hen night. I don't think I have an earthy enough sense of humour and tend to get a bit embarrassed when things get silly, so I'll be the square one in the corner... Oh well, and I'm panicking about what to wear. I'be bought this www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?extra=sch&b=G97&p=582&s=1&n=Women&pid=718-477 which is very not me normally. very very bright, but the only thing that I found which fitted me. Anyway, do you think I could wear it with leggings and boots? I have black suede high heel boots or flat brown ones... HELP!

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 06/11/2009 13:50

Try again. This [www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?extra=sch&b=G97&p=582&s=1&n=Women&pid=718-477]

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 06/11/2009 13:50

And again. this www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?extra=sch&b=G97&p=582&s=1&n=Women&pid=718-477

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 06/11/2009 13:51

Obviously the model is a completely different shape to me...

hippipotamiHasLost75lbs · 06/11/2009 14:04

oooh, I like that top - what colour leggings will you be wearing? As I thinkg that influences the choice of boots...

Yay for your ok on bra under swimsuit. I was not sure wether the idea would be soooo awful...
I don't want to become the laughing stock... [fret]

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/11/2009 14:11

oooh that's fab hotcross - gorgeous colours -you'll look wonderful - black boots and leggings, deffo.
Have a fab time too ! I have never been to a hen night ! I think I went for a hen drink once. My own pre wedding thing was when dh and I took our 2 witnesses out to dinner a couple of nights before.
Swim suit advice from me is to go with the sports bra - it'll be fine and no one will think it odd. So glad that your course was good and that the boy is doing so well.
Can't really advise on costume I'm afraid though - am so bad at that kind of thing. Have a jolly evening too

OP posts:
hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 06/11/2009 14:17

Oh phew Leggings are very unexcitedly black!

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 09/11/2009 10:21

Hello Hope you both had great weekends. I'm collapsing in a heap today after a really busy few days.

The hen night was fun and I felt happy with what I was wearing. Hooray! The food wasn't great, three people sent their main courses back to be heated up, but we were in a private room which we decorated so the atmosphere was good. We didn't leave til 12:30 and the staff were hoovering the main restaurant!

We went to Winkworth Arboretum for a lovely walk on Saturday and took a picnic which was a bit chilly, but with a lovely view! Then in the evening we went to the town bonfire display which was fab! B really liked the torchlit procession and I was glad dh forced me to go...

Right must get the washing on!

Sunday I hosted Book Group, so spent the day cleaning and tidying I wish we were a tidier family... The evening was fun though, even though I was the only one who didn't like the book. The girls left about 11:30, so I feel sleep-deprived as it took a while to wash up etc.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/11/2009 10:26

sounds as though you had a fun and successful weekend hotcross ! We didn't do much really...I did some work, which was nice, and the usual lot of cleaning. Dh cooked nice things,T helped. That's it really ! Am off to have coffee with friend P shortly and must buy arnica gel for dh as his back is sore, poor thing.

OP posts:
hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 09/11/2009 11:04

I didn't realise Arnica could be used for bad backs. I thought just for bruising... Will search some out.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/11/2009 13:21

it's Vogel Arnica Gel - made by Bioforce- dh says it's excellent

hippipotamiHasLost75lbs · 09/11/2009 15:50

Great to hear hen night was a success It is a fab feeling to feel comfortable inw hat you are wearing isn't it?

Weekend here was fine. Dh worked on Saturday and O and E were at legoland with friends so I did a bit of shoppign (nothing exciting, a birthday card, some wrapping paper, a Magic Faraway Tree boxset for E's birthday and some little round box-hedge plants for in the window boxes by the bay window and dining room window.
O and E watched the fireworks at Legoland so we did not go to the local one this year (but saw it from the window as it was held at the field behind us)

Long day at work today. Am feelign a bit 'removed' from all the other TA's. They have all known each other so long so that they huddle a bit when discussing certain things. Fair enough, but it still makes me feel a bit 'odd'. And then in maths B ended up in a group wtih the other Ta (random group allocation we did not have to do 1-1 work) and she (the other TA) moaned about having to have him. Then the boy B was paired up with got frustrated with B's inability to do anything so when B was speaking he yelled at him to 'shut up. So I then ended up telling this boy off - he promptly ended up complaining to the other TA and then went off in a sulk. Argh.....

Training course again tomorrow, am quite looking forward to it, even though it is a looooong day...

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 09/11/2009 16:57

Thanks for the arnica info MAS, am always looking for an alternative to painkillers.

Sorry you're having worries Hippi. I know how it feels to be slightly left out of things, and I always think it's incredibly rude of people to exclude others, and doesn't take much thought to avoid I guess they don't mean it, but it hurts. You'll gradually find your niche though I'm sure.

About the boy... Poor thing is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. The fact that he is still at school is testament to your patience, caring and support, but it doesn't help when others walk over him Some might say though, that it's good for him to be split up from you to see how he copes?? I do think it's very very unprofessional of the other TA to moan about having him in her group though, and surely she must see the improvement in him? Try not to worry about it Hippi and enjoy the course tomorrow.

I've just picked up B from tennis and have come home a bit miffed. Apparently we now need to pick up our dcs from outside the hall side door and not in the school foyer, which means we'll wait outside in the dark and cold, rather than inside. Not a biggie, but seems we're being shut out a bit from our usual welcoming school

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/11/2009 18:28

in haste - try not to worry hippi- agree again with wise hotcross...and enjoy your course tomorrow.
I can always get this arnica gel for you hotcross if you can't find it - the shop man uses it too.. or I could certainly grab a few sample sachets !

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost75lbs · 09/11/2009 20:27

Thanks guys, won't worry. Am sure they are not purposely trying to exclude me. They all mix and socialise togetehr and have been keen to include me too (badminton, drinks, a quiz night the weekend after next etc), it is just going to take time before I know them as well as they know each other. It is normal
Boy is doing great. I just feel personally snubbed when the other TA or the other children won't work with him. Need to toughen up I guess.

Am looking forward to the course tomorrow - nice to be out of school for the day
Had to make emergency arrangements for E as Little S (whose house E was to be going tomorrow after school until my course finished) is still off ill. Luckily another friend stepped in. E adores her little boy P. (She often tells me that not many people will play with P because they find him annoying but that she always lets him play ) (he is not annoying as such, just a petite-built little boy with big buck teeth, a squeeky voice who knows a lot and talks a lot I personally think he is adorable

Right, dh has gone to collect O from Cubs. He (O) had some apologies to make tonight as yesterday he was caught playing with Lego figures during the Remembrance day service at church. .
Am off to make a coffee and play with my new toy. (a sony walkman MP3 player, I am getting into these technology-gadgets now. )

hippipotamiHasLost75lbs · 09/11/2009 20:31

Shame about the tennis hotcross btw. I wonder what their thinking is? Perhaps they want to teach right up until the lesson and it distracts the children too much to see their parents in the foyer? (grasping at straws...)

O is hoping to start tennis after Christmas. Must remember to phone the tennis school... Does B still love it?

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 10/11/2009 13:47

Thanks MAS. I'll have a look in Guildford at the weekend, but if I'm not successful I might ask you to find it for me. I've been meaning to get some arnica...a friend swears by it.

Hippi, I had to LOL at O playing with lego in the remembrance service My friends and I used to take it in turns to take little toys to Church - fortunately one of my best friends was the minister's daughter and she used to get away with murder
Hope the course is going well! Where are you today?

B still really loves tennis, but there's only 4 children this term, so we're worried it wont be financially viable I don't think the school is worried about our distracting the chn as we'll be able to see into the hall through the windows up the side of the school. I wonder if it's the miserable secretary who has complained, as we sit right outside her office? Not that we're particularly noisy with only 4 parents

B's ballet exam date has come through It's 20th November and I have to take her out of school which she's not happy about! I wonder what she'll think as I think this year it's all more formal and they have to do some ballet on their own Practice tonight...

Right, must eat some lunch!

hippipotamiHasLost75lbs · 10/11/2009 16:07

Hello

Course was great today - it was at teh Children's Centre in Guildford. A very inspiring and interesting lady teacher today. Topic was inclusion and a look at different types of disability in the morning and 'different types of learning' in the afternoon.
Am not feeling too great. Have had a sore throat since starting work (that could either be my immune system responding to being around colds at school but I know it is also my body's response to stress) but am feeling very faint and cold. The other TA from our school came to the course last week feeling very poorly, I gave her a lift home (and sat with her all day) and then she had the rest of the week off with swine flu. Am a bit worried I am cming down with something now...

I hope B's tennis is able to carry on. When O did his week long tennis course in the summer holiday the tennis school went into receivership and they had to cancel lots of courses (luckily not O's one). I think the recession is biting in lots of ways

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/11/2009 21:25

glad course was good today, but sorry to hear that you aren't feeling so good. T isn't doing any out of school stuff, only choir, which is at school, but afterwards -iyswim.No more swimming lessons of course ...singing happens during the school day - but he seems quite content with not doing stuff..I do know though that he really wants keyboard lessons so I think after his singing exam we may discuss possibly starting lessons - both friend S and other friend S's children have piano lessons with a local teacher and he sounds very good.
Well, the high light of my day was taking T's sleeping bag to wash at the launderette ! I did mind P's children too,but haven't really had a productive day.
Feel better soon hippi !
Hope B is feeling ok about forthcoming ballet exam - will be thinking of her on 20th

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 11/11/2009 09:28

Uugggh another damp wet dreary and cold day. Hope you're feeling a bit better today Hippi, there are a lot of bugs around just now. Who knows which is swine flu, and which just a normal winter virus? Wrap up warm, drink lots and look after yourself. Glad the course went well though and it sounded great!

I think it's lovely that T enjoys singing and can lose himself in it. Maybe we'll be going to see him at the Royal Albert Hall or something one day

Infact, with O being so great on stage, E a budding gymnast and B loving ballet so much, we're doing rather well between us!

I'm hanging around waiting to go to see the back specialist for the insurance company. Great joy, would rather tuck myself up with a good book on a day like this! Then later it's ballet, Story Night at school and then I'm dropping home one of B's friends afterwards. Oh, and I need to go and get some pjs and dressing gown for B as she's decided that her Fifi jimjams are a bit babyish to wear to school!

hotcrossbunnyonabonfire · 11/11/2009 14:40

I am soooooo cold Well, appointment was OK, but he thinks I'll just have to live with the migraines so isn't recommending further treatment.

I got the pjs, and a nice cardi for B in Sainsburys but nothing for me

Hope you're both having a good day!

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/11/2009 15:12

oh hotcross,that's gloomy news ....
am chilly here now I've stopped dashing about -have done the Sainsbury's shopping and put it away - before that I decided to clean all the insides of the windows...very boring and dull..they look a bit smeary, but never mind.
Hope you're feeling ok hippi.
Am very glad we have children who have particular talents -aren't we clever !!

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost75lbs · 12/11/2009 15:21

Ah hotcross, shame about the migraine news... Could you ask for a second opinion? You should not be 'learnign to live' with migraines....

Had a much better few days. Did feel ill yesterday and ended up not going to wateraerobics. Work was fine yesterday, the other TA's were lovely, I think they could see I was a bit low) and boy worked well. I did nearly lose my temper with him so just walked out of the library to get a breath and then went back in.

Today was lovely. Got chatting to one of the ladies who has been a TA for 15 odd years, she also works in the school office and is in the badminton group. She was saying how well I was doing with B and how well I have fitted in with the other TAs. She said they think the world of me... Awww, I nearly started to cry And now I am wondering if any of them are on MN and read my post from Monday where I was worried about being on the outskirts [fret]
And then also today B's maths teacher told me that when she had to work with him on Tuesday whilst I was on my course she had noticed a big improvement in his number recognition I know that is not down to me but purely down to B himself for trying so hard, but I could not help but be pleased

Not much else to report, hope all is well with you too

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2009 16:05

hooray for hippi !!!!!!! see how well you're doing
Am sure nobody but us looks at this thread !!
