here we go !

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 07/02/2011 21:28

Ooooh, how exciting! Those 4 are his options, alongs side Maths, a language etc? Wow!

Ollie has so long to decide yet but I know it will be here before he knows it!
He is absolutely adamant he wants to become a medic in the RAF. So much so he has given up Scouts and joined St John's Ambulance. When he is 13 he is also going to join Air Cadets Smile
Oh, and he wants to do Triple Science (if he is able) because he will need it for Medicine.
We will see....

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/02/2011 22:05

a medic - fabby ! I joined the St John Ambulance when I was 8 because I had a thing about being a nurse ! (funny how I didn;t aspire to being a doctor !) T is doing the 4 choices, no foreign language, and Maths,Science,English and RS (which they do this year)

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 07/02/2011 22:12

Wow, well done Theo!! It looks like a challenging load! At Ollie's school they have to do a language.
(although that may change by the time he gets to Y10)

Ollie has only done 2 sessions at St Johns but is loving it so far Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/02/2011 22:45

ah bless him- I loved having the uniform and doing the first aid-stayed on until I was 16.

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 08/02/2011 07:47

We will probably get the uniform after the half term.
I hope Ollie stays on for a while, it seems a great thing to do Smile

hotcrossbunny · 10/02/2011 21:14

Hello both off you! Love your new nameSmile I will always think of you as 'Hippi' but must think of a suitable shortening endearment. Not 'Behind' I don't thinkGrin

I've really really neglected MNBlush I've had a couple of weeks of poorliness and haven't opened the computer cupboard at all. I'm still husky and not feeling great, but have enough energy to type now!

I'll read the rest of the thread tomorrow, but just wanted to pop in...

hotcrossbunny · 10/02/2011 21:14

of not off

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/02/2011 10:45

yay it's hotcross !! Sorry to hear that you've been poorly- hope you are feeling much better now. I will still think 'hippi' but we could call you 'nine' perhaps ?
Have finished my first book and delivered it yesterday- got to get cracking on 2nd soon.

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 11/02/2011 16:08

Hello hotcross - superb to see you!!! Well, not see, but you know what I mean... Grin

Sorry to hear you have not been well, there is still some horrid stuff ging around...

Roffle at the shortening of my name - I had not considered that when I chose my new name... Behind could grow on me though!! (although nine is better I think)

Looking forward to your news soon...

All is well here - E had her class assembly this morning, it was lovely. She is off on a 3 day school trip straight after half term, that is two nights away, eek... She is really really looking forward to it though Smile

O is getting on allright at secondary school. I don't think he has really found his 'niche' yet in terms of friends etc, he seems a little lost. Everyone around him appears to be in a group of friends and I think O is just sort of 'floating' between groups. This causes an issue when asked to do group work at school and he sometimes ends up working on projects on his own. He He claims not to mind though... And on the whole is doing well Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/02/2011 08:58

How exciting about E's trip ! Am sure O will be fine and find his place- T still unsettled at times -he frets about the friendship thing-but on the whole seems happy- needs to make more effort with his work, but I think he'll be fine.
meanwhile my mum has fallen again and broken her hip- is in hospital awaiting orthopaedics -will probably need pinning..I do worry for my dad as it's such a load on his shoulders, poor man. Arghhh !

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 12/02/2011 15:03

Oh no, what a worry about your mum! How long will she be in hospital for? What a nightmare, your poor dad Sad

I was talking about O to a friend last night. She siad Y7 is when they try lots of friens out and it takes a while to find a nice 'fit'. O seems happy enough though!

Have just come back from the riding school - E had a riding lesson (am astounded at how well she rides!!) and has stayed behind to help out. As I left I saw her filling a large bucket with hay and heading towards some stables Grin

O is upstairs doing homework. I have had to help him with algebra (that brought back memories!!) and he is now doing a wanted poster in German.

Then he has to finish his research on castles and battles to conquer castles ready for a boardgame he has to create for history. He has decided to do a cross between monopoly and snakes and ladders with two players trying to capture each other's castle. Dh and O will be constructing this out of card tomorrow (feel a trip to Hobbycraft coming on!)
This was meant to be a group project but O is doing it on his own and to be honest he has some great ideas so seems quite happy.

Right, coffee break nearly over, shall I clean the bathroom, do the dusting or tackle the ironing???

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/02/2011 15:42

what chore did you pick ? !

lovely that E has taken so well to riding. O's game sounds fab-what fun !
Not sure how long mum will be in, but they will make sure she is mobile before she comes out.

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 12/02/2011 17:07

I did the dusting Smile It was the quickest out of all the chores. Am idly contemplating the ironing though....
But dh will be home from collecting E soon, and then I will cook dinner.....

Will regret this tomorrow though when it is all still waiting for me...

hotcrossbunny · 15/02/2011 13:36

Have managed to be off MN for days again - this time with a migraine. Grrr.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum MAS, what a shock. Hope she's doing well and being treated properly. Bless T and his fretting, all of us have been blessed with worriers, haven't we??!!Smile

Will stick with 'Nine' for nowGrin How exciting about E's trip. Staying away is MAJORShock It's made me realise B had better have a few sleepovers, or her first time away from home will be Brownie camp or something!

The riding and horse care sounds fab - every girls dream I think. B would certainly love it! I'm sure O will gradually find a niche that's perfect for him. Friendships have so much to do with luck, it only takes one like-minded person to be in his year and he'll be happy once he's found them.

B is much much happier at school. Apparently she had a dyslexia test last week and has come out with no signs of it at all, which is a relief as dh is dyslexic. Infact, it's shown that she should achieve highly in all areas of the curriculum, which is what we tried to tell her teacher, so maybe her work expectations will now be more appropriate coming from this

Right, must go and learn some words for choir! I haven't practised at all this week, and the choir master is super strict

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/02/2011 21:16

oh poor hotcross Sad but very pleased to hear that B is happier.
Mum is doing well, might be moved to the community hospital in town which will be great. Dad had his cataract op today and that went very well - a left him in the eye department and went up to mum's ward for an hour or so before collecting him !

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 16/02/2011 15:38

oh hotcross, migraines are horrid aren't they...
And MAS, your poor parents...

I have been off work today, there is a horrid flu bug going round school which I have managed to catch. Will probably take tomorrow off too. Feel completely wiped out... (I believe 3 of us TA's were off today, yikes)

Hotcross Iam so glad to hear hotcross is happier.
E is definately content in Y3, but then she did end up in a class with 9 of her friends so it was much easier for her.

Right, am off, back later.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/02/2011 22:39

oh nine,horrid- hope you feel better v soon

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 24/02/2011 07:24

ooh, this disappeared again- hope you're both ok,feeling well and having a good half term..
We've had T's feet checked-shoes still ok,so phew ! bought new school trousers- much crossness as he had to try them on..taken car to garage for MOT and service, then back the next day as the new indicator bulb didn't work...seen mum-hoping to go today too.
Anyway, have much work to get done by mid -March-am slightly panicky !

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 24/02/2011 22:19

Good news about the work - bad news about the panicking though! What sort of things are you working on?[nosy]

Have had a lovely half term. Seen family, been out and about (including a trip to Ikea Smile)

Today my parents were here all day, brilliant to catch up with them. And they like the house Smile

O has had two snow board lessons this week, he is absolutely loving it!

O moans too when I ask him to try something on and will try his best to refuse. But when I remind him the alternative is to look stupid in clothes way too small he soon capitulates Smile

Sadly the half term is nearly over and back to school is looming over me already... Sob...

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/02/2011 22:55

still got a day left nine !!(that still feels strange, not calling you hippi Grin ) Lovely to have had your parents over-and glad they liked the house !

The books are about 8 year olds and 9 yr olds- facts and figures and child geniuses etc
Where is O snowboarding ?

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 24/02/2011 23:00

Oh, you can still call me hippi, that is fine Smile

O has been snowboarding at the dry slope in Aldershot. We booked him into a beginner course, 2 x 3 hour sessions, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. He has loved it, learn loads and has come home bruised and scratched because he has fallen over so much!1Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/02/2011 23:14

sounds very exciting !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 28/02/2011 23:11

just wanted to add these St Davids St Davids St Davids !

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 03/03/2011 08:16

Oooh, I love those!!
Here is a bunch for you St Davids St Davids St Davids

Am on an enforced computer ban (well not ban, but severely limited) as E dropped my netbook and cracked the outer plastic casing. Luckily we had taken out insurance (as I am not the most co-ordinated and poised of people) so it has been sent off to be repaired. This could take 28 days [wail]
So have managed to grab five minutes on dh's work laptop...

E was back from her school trip yesterday. She had the best time and came home muddy, unwashed, with a suitcase of muddy clothes, the plaits from monday still in her hair but severely disheveld, and full of stories of great food, night walks in the woods, owls and birds of prey, pond dipping and midnight feasts Smile

Right, better go and head off to school. Would it be wrong to say I need a holiday already??

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/03/2011 08:27

am so pleased E had such a brilliant trip St Davids !
My mum should be coming home either tomorrow or on Monday- it seems that she does have early Parkinson's disease-which would account for tremors.
