Hi, hope you find this thread. The old one was too big.
Varifocals eh? Not sure I'd fancy that.
DP took me out to lunch today, to The Ivy. Twas really nice, good food and service, great decor, lovely stained glass windows. I only saw one sleb - Trisha Goddard with (I presume) her daughter.
I had seared scallops with bacon, followed by the rib-eye with chips and creamed spinach (with too much nutmeg in it).
It's been a funny old week. The house is a tip because I've hardly been in it (except to catch up on sleep). We're off on holiday on Saturday morning and I've organised nothing. Gulp!

No I think they are cutting off the bulge bit.

Having steak with brie, salad and baguette

LyraSilvertongue · 02/11/2009 18:13

I've had a hell of a day. I had to do an eight hour shift (just finished) with both boys at home as they had an inset day and the holiday club was full.
It was fine while work was quiet but when it got busy it all went wrong.
I now have glass all over my kitchen floor because I got locked out when I went to collect them from their brief play next door. Had to go round the back and smash the lower glass panel in the door to get back in. Luckily it's a crappy old door that needed replacing anyway.
Then had to cook and work at the same time. And I've got yet another bloody cold.
In need of a large glass of wine, despite earlier good intentions.

I googled.

You'll be fine - it's one of the commonest neurosurgical operations.

Good info on this page if you want to know.

oggsfrog · 02/11/2009 18:32

Oh dear Lyra , sounds like you deserve a large glass.
Did you manage to get the glass cleared up?

LyraSilvertongue · 02/11/2009 18:33

Most of it. Will give it another going over just in case.

Oh crap, what a day. I had to do that once. Dh was in Texas at the time. (pre children)

Now I think about it my back went while he was there and I rang him and cried...not much he could do.

I have a key buried in the garden now.

Hope your day improves soon!

oggsfrog · 02/11/2009 20:08

Good luck for tomorrow Berrie!
Here's hoping you'll be back on your feet as soon as possible (probably by tomorrow evening )
If there's anything you need, just shout.

Berrie · 02/11/2009 21:04

Thanks.

Nearly ready for bed. I've just shown dh how to get onto the thread so he should let you know how it went tomorrow.

Speak soon! xxx

oggsfrog · 03/11/2009 07:25

Aaaargh! I've reached the point where, after my my first couple of weeks loss of weight, despite eating and drinking the same, the weight seems to be creeping up again.
Bah! Sodding diets.
Need to re-think again.

Will be thinking of you today Berrie.

Berrie · 03/11/2009 08:11

But how much did you lose?

oggsfrog · 03/11/2009 08:29

Lost 10lb in 2 weeks (mostly fluid), but am creeping back in the wrong direction again
Did you ring? Have you got a bed?

Berrie · 03/11/2009 08:58

Yes I have to go in at 10.00. I can have clear fluids, yippee!

How do they do the general anaesthetic?

Berrie · 03/11/2009 08:58

Ten pounds is very good in two weeks even so.

oggsfrog · 03/11/2009 09:07

You might be given a pre-anaesthetic jab/pill that will make you feel slightly drowsy, then they'll take you down to theatre.
In an ante-room they usually insert a canula into the back of your hand (small needle taped on with little tube and connector so if they need to top up they don't have to jab you again). Little prick.
Then they'll introduce the anaesthetic and ask you to start counting back from ten. You'll get to about 7 then next thing you know you'll be coming round and feel all woozy .

I love general anaesthetic .
You might feel nauseous when you come around but then again you might not. I have done once, but other times not.

You'll be fine. They'll probably try to get you on your feet this evening .

Good luck.

Berrie · 03/11/2009 09:16

No masks over the face then? Still terrorised by MRI!

I hope dh can stay a bit and he wont have to drop me off and bogg off.

If I can , I'm going to be running up and down the ward doing cartwheels so they let me out...actually I've never been able to do cartwheels...ah well.

oggsfrog · 03/11/2009 09:21

The mask over your face is when you are out of it .
I'm crap at cartwheels now. I used to be able to do them.

oggsfrog · 03/11/2009 11:11

Ooh! Ooh! Have just reserved a laptop. It's available for collection from next Mon. Ooh! Ooh!

LyraSilvertongue · 03/11/2009 15:08

Fingers crossed for you Berrie. How exciting Oggs. What did you go with in the end?

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 03/11/2009 19:10

Can't remember the model but it's a Samsung 15.6" screen, 2Gb RAM, 250Gb Hard Drive, Pentium dual core processor with speed of 2.1 whatevers. It's out of stock for home delivery but said it would be available for collection in store from Mon next week.

I got a phone call from my Dr's surgery tonight offering me the swine flu jab . Don't know what to do. I booked the appt for Thur to give me some time to think - as dh says, if I decide not to get it I can always cancel.
Really don't know what to do.
Bear in mind the only access to news I have normally is R4, so I don't get all the tv/newspaper comment/scaremongery. I also live in the middle of nowhere...
What to do, what to do...

No news from Mr Berrie yet then. Hope it all went smoothly and she is doing well.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/11/2009 19:15

Hmm, not sure it's worth it when you're in the middle of nowhere. Are there supposed to be risks/side effects?

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 03/11/2009 19:27

Depends what you read/believe. You can find what you want to find... "safe", "good idea especially if asthmatic", all the way through to "untested", "unsafe".
I had all my jabs when I was little and dd had the MMR etc.

Berrie · 03/11/2009 22:07

DH here.
Berrie has had her op. All seems to be well. I was with her for 90 mins tonight she has a morphine button to press every 5 mins. Legs feet and toes all working and she can feel through them all. She was glad to see me and could see massive black spiders crawling on the walls....

LyraSilvertongue · 03/11/2009 22:58

Thanks for the update Mr Berrie. Glad she's doing well.

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 04/11/2009 07:44

Thanks for letting us know how she's doing MrB.
I bet she'll be running laps around the hospital this morning in a bid to persuade them she's well enough to be discharged

Berrie · 04/11/2009 18:11

Dictated from Berrie?s sick bed.
Evening all!
DH brought me a printout of the thread so far so this is my reply.
Had an evil night wearing oxygen mask and having ½ hourly OBBS ? not to mention 95 year old Constance getting out of bed several times.
The staff are bunch of miserable cows ? one made me cry last night by telling me off for pushing the buzzer after ½ an hour of lying in wet sheets as she had other patients to deal with. ( this being after she forgot to bring me a bed pan at all for ages). They don?t smile, they don?t comfort, they don?t reassure.
Anyway I can?t come home yet as my left buttock and other ?bits? are numb. Hopfully they should come back online soon, otherwise they?ll need to check it out.
I am enjoying the tea and biscuits!
