I HAVE STARTED A LITTLE ITALY THREAD!!!!

hooray for me!!!

OP posts:
minervaitalica · 15/09/2009 14:04

OK, lilac is pushing it. But I did see someone in yellowish trousers walking around in Trieste last summer, and he did look rather good.

So what do we think are the no-nos in terms of men's clothes? White leather shoes?

Rosa · 15/09/2009 14:13

Best I have ever seen is Rosa confetto ...Ma TUTTO. But had a brown belt and Brown segalin shoes ( the ones the pope wears). Even had a pink jumper knotted round shoulders. BARF ! DH has a lovely pink polo but with jeans etc looks fine. He did buy a pair of zucca trousers one year but I took the pi*s so much he has not worn them since.

Bucharest · 15/09/2009 14:16

Euuuuuuw, slip on white leather shoes, not so much pastel trousers, as that whole ensemble look, where they look as if they got dressed in the dark, with orange trousers, a yellow shirt and a red pullover. They just look as if someone boaked up a pizza.
Gold round hairy chests.
Too small swimming trunks.
Those weirdy ice-cream-seller white jackets that men seem to think are a sign of impending summer.....(ditto the women squashing their lard into tight white trousers no matter how much lard there might be)
Hey, I could write a book.....

minervaitalica · 15/09/2009 14:35

Oh yuck, acrylic white trousers with VPL - loads of those around.

Skimpy bikinis (or topless) on wrinkly skin...

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 15/09/2009 14:44

LOL LOL LOL at italian menswear piss taking!!! SOOOO SOOO right! I never understood the red trousers with beige shoes for once. Also is hilarious the italian obsession with winter jackets: one year was Barbour, then Husky, then Fay, then Woolrich, etc. Pazzi!!!!! My english DH does not even own a coat.

sorry must rush as I have got a nursery at home today.

Bucharest where's your thread?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 15/09/2009 14:47

Rosa I soo want to hear you talking with a strong Veneto accent.

Bucharest · 15/09/2009 15:01

Mind you.....sartorially, which is worse? Suntanned Italian lard in tight white jeans or White British lard in those hideously unelasticky legging affairs? I look at women in Asda and just think, my god, I wouldn't dare leave the house.....

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2009 15:02

Well, to be honest, I think the worst look on men is British lads descending to the pub:
bootleg jeans and "interesting shirt". Even in winter, when it's bloody cold. Do they not bring their coat because they get so wasted they forget where they left it?

And I won't go into cheap fabric for suits.

As for Italian men, I cannot stand the orange trousers/red combo too.
And those wearing "scarpe di breasola" you know those dark tanned leather shoes usually un po' a punta.

gio71 · 15/09/2009 15:13

lol lol at Italian men fashions. When DP first moved to Manc with me he unveiled a pair of PINK TROUSERS FFS for the 1 day of summer we had!!!. We lived in a shared house with a load of Brit lads at the time- suffice to say he was A) not allowed out of house as lads warned him he would get beaten up and B) never ever allowed to forget it by lads or me.
Re which is worse through re lard Bucharest-definitely white English lard. Hideous sites to be seen on my last trip back. Only plus is back in the UK I don't feel too fat
Spend a fortune on Amazon here. And Play.com. But because my card details are saved and all I need to do is click a button and not even enter a security code it means it's not real money y' know....So doesn't count.

Bucharest · 15/09/2009 15:18

Oh- and the English men with lardy heads! How can heads get lardy? But they do, and then they squash their lardy necks into a Man U football shirt and think we don't notice they look like lardy boiled eggs. Euuuuuw.

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2009 15:27

boden

My mum couldn't get around the fact that so many people wore fleeces when she visited

minervaitalica · 15/09/2009 15:39

Well actually - Boden indeed... What is this thing re: Boden clothes being really fashionable? They look just weird to me...

The other ludicrous thing from the UK is really badly stretched out and dirty ballet pumps which are not really worn - more dragged around.

When I was at uni, my mum was shocked at the number of students wearing stained -t-shirts. So when she was about to meet future husband the first question was: does he wash?

minervaitalica · 15/09/2009 15:40

Mind you - discussing British men and clothes is like sparare sula croce rossa...

Perhaps we should go back to Russian literature?

Bucharest · 15/09/2009 15:41

Lardy feet spilling over flat pumpy things you mean? I was on the train all summer with this woman who had genuine LV handbags, about 4 different ones, and these really nasty shoes that her feet literally splodged out of onto the concrete.....horrid.

Some Boden I love. Some looks like curtains.c 1970.

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2009 15:44

Lol Minerva, it is a bit like that. Though no one has commented on the totally Italian phenomenon of "scarpe di bresaola".
I also don't like those Hogan trainers (that cost more than 200 euros ), but I do apologize in anticipo, as I know lots of people love them.

Have to go, ds is pestering me. argggggggg.

Lets go back to Russian Lit

Sputnik · 15/09/2009 15:50

Franca, I think of those as Tecnocasa shoes, they seem to be compulsory for estate agents round here, so much so that whenever I met one (and there were a lot) I couldn't resist checking their feet.

British men and clothes, poor dears, leave them alone

Sputnik · 15/09/2009 15:52

What are the Hogan trainers?
There is a strong prevalence on women of around 60 of gold or silver "trainers", with kind of a wedge heel, what's that all about?

minervaitalica · 15/09/2009 15:57

I think those are Hogan's... They are a favourite of Trinny and Susannah by the way - I have got all the books...

So, right. Pushkin anyone?

Sputnik · 15/09/2009 16:11

Oh dear, am I mad to have a secret hankering for these?

Perhaps it has something to do with my secret love of this

(DS was entranced by that, should I be worried?)

Rosa · 15/09/2009 16:27

These are the ones for me made just for running up and down bridges www.styledrops.com/handbags-38297.html
LOL at shoes and all the lardy descriptions......
I cant get the Boden rumpled look - sorry cotton dresses ( crumpled) with a raincoat/ jacket thing . Then reef flip flops. Child in same very crumpled boden - usually dirty even by 9.30am ( normally the same dirty as my dd1 is after a full day in the garden / park).
Also lardy people wearing clothes that are obvioiusly designed for smaller sizes. I am big but NO WAY would I even consider wearing certain revealing tops and tight trousers huge muffin effect when you can now -well in the Uk get some fashionable stuff in big sizes and look good.
As for you Pippi vecchia mia quando tize in zona mia ze vedemo. va bon ?

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2009 19:19

Yes, those are the hogan I was talking about. But look at this variation (us variation even a word? doesn't sound right)

Lol at tecnocasa shoes. Here are worn by men who go allo stadio eleganti.

Rosa at your boden description

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2009 19:20

Minerva, are they really a fav of Trinny and Susannah? How do they justify it?
I haven't seen an episode of T and S since 2003 , they were always on when I still had my hands full.

TheMysticMasseuse · 15/09/2009 19:46

i am literally having to do pelvic floor exercises at scarpe di bresaola franca!

i have just ordered a pair of geox trainers online- am desperately in pain with achilles tendonitis, physiotherapist says i have to wear trainers all the time... so trying to find trainerish shoes whcih don't look too awful... i feel that geox is a poor woman's hogan

OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 15/09/2009 19:47

minerva, boden is not really fashionable- it's a MN thing....

tell me the truth- are they really horrible? consider that the alternative is going around with white running shoes all'americana...
