Coddy help! Will I lose my licence?

I have 4 pts on my licence already, got convicted of speeding doing 48 in a 30 zone (I think) about 2.8 years ago.

Going to the Cup Final last weekend, I got nabbed doing 70 in a 30 but am furious, it was coming out of the tolls on the M4, I didn't even see a 30mph zone, but how on earth are you meant to get back up to speed to get back on the M~Way if you have to do 30 for a while after the toll? They obviously had a mobile camera and decided to nab lots of unsuspecting English people for some revenue on Cup Final day.

So Cod, do you think I will lose my licence as s it was more than twice the speed limit? It's not like I was in a a built up area or anything.

I assume it was other side of toll or would surely be uk authorites.

WWW I have no idea, I had 4 people in the car ffs, you woulnd't think I could get up to 70 fast enough would you?

If it was a 50 limit in April and Gwent police don't want a 30 then it must have been 50 when you went through, in which case you should be in for standard £60 and 3 points, CD.

WideWebWitch · 29/05/2005 20:24

Let's see the pic

WideWebWitch · 29/05/2005 20:24

I have no pic. Only got the thingy through today. If it is 70 in a 50 that is fine I will hold my hands up as my last 4 pts are about to expire or whatever it's called.

Hiya
Living in wales, we dont often come over the bridge that much (dont want to pay!!). We think its probably 50, but we are impressed you got to 70 so quick

jofeb04 · 29/05/2005 22:36

Also try to get the photo of it, when my dh had points he asked for it (didnt help us though, dh was smiling in it!!), but you can try to say you dont remember who was driving it!!

Oh yea, dh works for Gwent police!!!!!

CountessDracula · 29/05/2005 22:39

rofl jo re your dh smiling in the pic !

My brother got an extra point for being insolent to the magistrate

From the super link on t'other thread, it looks like 70mph in 50mph zone which is 'fine and more points' territory. Probably needs another camera incident to acquire a totting-up ban - as a workmate found some years ago on the M5. As ban was possible she had to attend court in (rural) Gloucestershire, where she mentioned how difficult it would be still to go horse-riding without a car to drive out to the stables. This handicap went down very well with the Bench: she was still fined: and she was still banned ... for a week. After which she was dashing around the country again with renewed confidence in her invincibility and a point-less licence. Bit of a lottery, this driving lark :-)

Janh · 29/05/2005 23:22

sbf, I did blink a bit when cod said that after the ban your points are wiped - is that really true? 12 points, one week's ban, then nil points? That can't be right, surely?

slartibardfast · 29/05/2005 23:42

I didn't think it was what magistrates' discretion was supposed to achieve - but sentencing isn't an exact science and there are lots of quirks in the system.

I first heard this story (from the horse's mouth, as it were) on the mway - as a passenger - at 120mph - we were a bit late for a meeting - it's amazing just how quicky you catch up cars bumbling along at 70mph - and how much mental energy you can put into willing those dawdling in the middle lane at 85 to be looking in their mirrors properly before they pull out. :-)
