Have decided to start a useful tips thread as someone gave me a useful one yesterday. Perhaps you have some to share.

Leather sofas - most marks come off with a damp cloth or a wet wipe. Apparently, (so I have been told but not tried it myself yet), if you have biro on your leather sofa use a squirt of hairspray and wipe off. Should remove it.

Another thing that I do is put a few grains of rice into my salt cellar. Stops the salt from sticking when in a moist area.

If you've been out drinking take a dioralyte before going to bed. Helps hydrate you and fends off a hangover.

If chewing gum gets stuck in hair use egg white to ease it out.
Used this on ds2 last week and it worked a treat

Store bananas in the fridge. Stops them going brown inside. The skin will still change colour but will keep the fruit itself yellow.

A ripe Banana will ripen an Avacado really quickly if you put them in a bag together.

Oooh this is just like Womans Own!

When cleaning windows always do it with just water and vinegar. Then rub with dry newspaper. They will sparkle and shine and all your neighbours will be jealous.

SPARKLER1 · 17/05/2005 17:22

It is isnt it. I was thinking more Take a Break!

OP posts:
Twiglett · 17/05/2005 17:22

yeah right I can just imagine my neighbours gathering round in a fit of jealousy over my sparkly windows

SPARKLER1 · 17/05/2005 17:24

Flum - you'd need to have a tip to follow on from that one. How to remove newspaper print from your hands/marigold's!!

If the cork cracks when you open a bottle of wine - drink the whole bottle - it will only go off by tomorrow

Not a tip but a request!

I've read the windows one (vinegar) - I have tried using vinegar to clean and it always make the house STINK of vinegar. Is there a way around this?!

SPARKLER1 · 17/05/2005 20:31

bugger - bought a bottle of wine with a screw cap what excuse can I use now???

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 17/05/2005 20:34

Screw caps are flimsy - accidently squeeze it too hard and it won't fit back on the bottle

When storing potatoes put an apple in amongst them, it stops potatoes sprouting

Louise1980 · 17/05/2005 20:50

To get gloss paint off your hands use Head n Shoulders. Really it works as well as paint stripper!

SPARKLER1 · 17/05/2005 21:17

fuzzywuzzy shall definitely try that one. Louise - @ head and shoulders.
