Hi my ds is 13m and i find it so hard buying nice things for him. Of course he has got a few bits from mothercare, next, marks and spencers and asda but occasionally i would like him to wear something different. These places never seem to offer anything different, they offer babies acting as old men in shirts and ripped jeans.
There are a few children shops near me and i just can't resist it. For ds first birthday he wore an adorable miniman outfit that was expensive but he looked beautiful.
What do you all think about designer baby clothes?

ok, well i don't know what you pay for your clothes but compared to that it is cheap as chips! £10 for a whole outfit , sometimes even cheaper, you can't go wrong!
Primark for boys is minging! all thick checked shirts . However the babygrows and vests are brilliant!
My mother told me once that baby clothes 25 yrs ago were so expensive they didn't have next or anything they would have to pay a fortune for clothes.

lol lockets - was just thinking the same thing...

nutcracker · 16/05/2005 11:49

I think really Loulabelle you seem to just want to brag about how much money you can spend on your kids clothes.

You can see the stuff online in the Next sales actually and it isn't a load of old toot.

loulabelle222 · 16/05/2005 11:50

if i am offending anybody i am sorry . I love next, mothercare and all of these places. I just think i have a different outlook on clothes than some of you, maybe because i am young (22) and still into fashion myself. me and my dp work hard for our ds and me buying him clothes is something i just love doing! I just thought there were other people like me. Obviously not.

I agree nutcracker. Who gives a what you put your kids in, I don't!

loulabelle222 · 16/05/2005 11:50

i am not bragging about money i scrimp and save as much as the next person.

Yes, it's true, us creaky saggy ancient bags just dress in hessian sacks, don't we? Fashion? Wasssatt? pmsl

PuffTheMagicDragon · 16/05/2005 11:51

What's wrong with Next clothes? I'm not keep on some of the "slogan" tops etc, but their other stuff is good.

My sister kits her boys out from Primark - she's on a limited budget, but they always look really smart.

loulabelle222 · 16/05/2005 11:52

i want my little one to take pride in his appearance but i don't want him to be self conscience , i let him get on with what ever he wants to do, i just like him looking nice.

my 2 have loads of osh kosh, stuff from the "designers at debenhams" range and a couple of other lables. maybe not true designer stuff but they all wash and wear well. they also have stuff from tescos, pumpkin patch and h&m. does it actually matter?

loulabelle222 · 16/05/2005 11:54

what ever i work hard for what i have got, so i don't let me and my child look like were tramps. There is nothing wrong with next, i think its great .ds is in a next pair of navy linen trousers and a white t-shirt he looks lovely

I think the most important thing is that your kids enjoy their clothes...DS (only 18 mnths) loves anything with pictures/animals on it and I got lots of T-shirts and shorts from H&M at the weekend which were great...giant Anacondas and surfing shorts....just great fun and really cheap. Why spend more if you don't need to?

I've bought items from Monsoon before which were 3 times the price and they've looked scruffy after 2 washes and needed ironing which I can't bear. Also I think the designer labels boys stuff is often just minature adult stuff and not fun at all.

Also in Gap they change their stock so quickly you can buy an item at £15.99 one week and £2.99 the next...no chequing...no 0400 starts...so again why pay more?

When I was little my Mum used to customise my clothes with apple patches and dolls and ribbons and I still remember it because it was fun.

What I'm trying to say is that good quality, original clothing doesn't have to be expensive.

tarantula · 16/05/2005 11:54

Do kids really care how they are dressed anyway?? I know my dd doesnt and as for dss it hard enough getting him to actually get dressed in clean clothes let alone get him to care about what he wears and hes 13. I thank the gods that we ahve this problem

flashingnose · 16/05/2005 11:54

I buy most of my girls' clothes from our local NCT sale where I can pick up mint condition Boden/Laura Ashley/designer stuff for pennies. I like these labels as they are quite robust and will go through more than one child IYKWIM.

We are also fortunate in receiving lots of handmedowns from friends.

I like my kids to feel thay can get good and muddy when they're playing, so full priced deisgner gear would be a waste of money IMHO .

nutcracker · 16/05/2005 11:54

I am 26 and like my kids to look nice, but not by spending a stupid amount of money on an item of clothing they will wear for 5 mintues.

And i'm sorry Lolabelle if you have to scrimp and save as much as the next person (which i very much doubt) then why are you spending hard earned money on clothes they won't be worn for long.

lima · 16/05/2005 11:55

going back to your original question loula, I think designer baby clothes are a waste of money until the kids are over 2 and wearing them long enough to get more cost-effective wear out of them.

Have a few more kids and then they will seem better value for money

snafu · 16/05/2005 11:55

But nutty, at 26 you're over the hill and probably not into fashion anymore anyway, so what would you know?

nutcracker · 16/05/2005 11:56

What clothes would they look trampy in then ???? anything not designer and not with a stupid price tag no doubt.

nutcracker · 16/05/2005 11:56

PMSL Snafu

Does anyone else cut off the arms and legs from sleepsuits to get more wear out of them? Looks uber - trendy too!
