welcome!

Where have you been Franca?
I think they are just following the standard priority for giving out the normal flu vaccine, normally they give it mostly to over 65s, no?

Camomilla · 22/07/2009 22:42

think it'll be the same here too, priority to the most vulnerable with other health issues, so the over 65s would be included. I think they said it'd be jan/feb before everyone's been immunised...

I HATE PACKING!! and for a month! got all these lovely clothes I haven't worn for 3 years between terrible weather and being pg, so my case is nearly full, DD's pretty full too as I'm bringing most of her summer stuff, she's got so much but don't want to not use something... and I still have't decided which slings to take (my collection has grown recently and can't make my mind up... one makes DD fall asleep in seconds, the other one is cooler, the other one is perfect for back carries, and then there's the buckle carrier for DP ......)

anyway, off to try bras as boobs have gone back to pancakes in the last couple of weeks so need to check what I can fill a bit

not sure I'll be able to pop in while I'm off, so have lovely hols and happy b-day to the LI's LOs!

Sputnik · 23/07/2009 09:10

I hate packing dilemas too. It'll be hotter than you think though so take a light cardi andleave behind anything else heavier than a t-shirt.

DDs birthday today, she got a Playmobil ice cream parlour so now her plastic farmers have somewhere to go for a break! I love that stuff.

francagoestohollywood · 23/07/2009 11:25

Oh I hate packingtoo. I tend to pack very light, and take very few things, but then I'm guilttripped by friends, who seem to pack the entire house when they go on holiday.

Camo, enjoy your holidays, get plenty of sunshine, you need to recover from all your illnesses, nothing is better than the sea and the sun (mediterranean mum emoticon).

Happy birthday to sput's dd! (love the ice parlour)

Sput we were in le marche, where my parents have a tiny house (it used to be my paternal grandmothe's house). It is very convenient as the beach is just croos the road, and si fa vita da ombrellone...

Hi franca. Did you have a nice time?

Dunno about swine flu. OTOH it seems frightening and confusing - especially as regards who is most "at risk". But when I reflect a bit, I think, "well, it's flu', basically... So do what you would normally do to avoid flu', e.g. wash hands, avoid sneezing people...", etc.

Yes, I think the over 65s are more vulnerable. Although younger people are more affected, presumably they are - epidemiologically speaking - healthier, so stand a better chance of full recovery. I think the most confusing part is about the under-5s, who you would think are also vulnerable; however, I imagine they are still less vulnerable than a frail old person (not saying, however, that all 65+ are frail).

I feel a bit manipulated by the media, I must admit, in terms of feeling "panicked".

francagoestohollywood · 23/07/2009 13:13

Hello penthe Yes, we had a nice time, the dc especially loved it and ate lots of ice creams.
How are you? How's the nanny hunting going?
While in C. I forgot to tell you that we slept on a V Spring mattrees in the hotel, and I'm now even more envious of yours. I told dh that we need to start saving for one, as I slept like a baby in those 2 nights, waking up with no bad back whatsoever.
An another thing. Apparently our Moertti is planning to start filming soon. The film is aabout a Pope with depression. .

The Italian media - or at least repubblica, which I read daily - hasn't been to alarmist re swine flu, always interviewing very calm virologists. But I do panic thinking how the italian govtm would respond if the situation gets serious.
Yes, of course it makes sense to vaccinate the over 65, but it is weird to wait until february to vaccinate the children, given that schools start in september and that- at least in northern italy - the majority of under 5 are in childcaer as well. Boh! I try to be rational but get panicky as well.

Boo hoo, I want to go and sit on a beach for a few weeks too!
Or even go somewhere it's not so hot I'm stuck indoors half the day.

I did a totally stupid thing today and left my credit card at the supermarket, luckily, this being a small town where everybody knows your business, they handed it to the bank, who remembered I had been associated with a local company, who then phoned me.... (actually the bank has my number, the phone me every time I'm overdrawn so not sure why they bothered with that bit ). Anyway, I then had to brave 36° heat in a car with no air-con with both DCs at 3 in the afternoon to go and pick it up from the bank. I am shattered. I really can't handle it this hot.

Rosa · 24/07/2009 15:58

We have had sun shine !!!! Its amazing what a bit of vitamin d will do for you !!!
MM and Franca happy hols and Sput eeek about the 36 deg - I am glad I am not there . Hope you manage to paddle in your pool !
Wonder how much money Gio has spent in teh sales here ....I haven't managed much as Minirosa gets pissed off if I stop for too long and dd1 no buggy so forget it .... Well never mind eh !

Sputnik · 24/07/2009 16:20

Can't go in the pool as DS refuses, so if it's just me here we can't use it. Weekends we are in Rome working on the new house. Total pita as I have to do the maintenance for it anyway to stop it becoming a mosquito infested green swamp, but not using it.

You are so right to go back to UK for the summer Rosa! I feel like booking our flights now for next summer.

Supposedly we are going to the beach for a couple of hours tomorrow. Whoop de doo!
God I am grumpy!

francagoestohollywood · 24/07/2009 18:21

Hi rosa, glad you had a lovely day in the sunshine!

Sput, ouch. 36 is hothothot. I somehow pictured you living on the hills, with gentle breeze etc. They say that the temp will go down a bit on sunday .... I hope so as they say it's 40 degrees in sicily

OP posts:
Sputnik · 24/07/2009 18:45

Well it's not so bad her in the evenings and mornings, definitely less hot than Rome but during the day it's still bloody hot!
Plus for the bank etc I have to scendere a valle

francagoestohollywood · 24/07/2009 20:26

will you have air con in rome? I remember being there early august ages ago and it was v. hot. But rome is less humid than milan, no?
Enjoy the evening breeze tonight!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 24/07/2009 20:27

That time I'm talking about I was with friends on our way to sicily... here's a good advice: never go camping in sicily in august. Extremely hot.

hi all just checking in. Have good hols everyone. Nice day in the North West today (been vile all week) but am so glad to be out of Rome's heat I dont care . Can't wait for my 3 weeks al mare though. Rosa - not spent anything yet- Mon is the big day. DS being left with Nonni and I am off to Manchester to have my hair done, shop and meet friends for wine and food like the old days . Oh and getting my teeth done , spent yesterday at the dentist having tooth drilled and have to go back on Mon

francagoestohollywood · 26/07/2009 14:45

Gio, have a fantastic time in Manchester tomorrow (sympathies about the dentist... I've been putting off going since all the troubles I had in the past, but need to go to have a pulizia asap) and shop a bit for us too!

We are off in 2 hrs... I'm already quite tense. Ciao!!!

Shame I missed you Franca, have a good time.

Spent the weekend making very slow progress on the house, then got to the beach around 7 pm yesterday. It was lovely in the breeze there though, even though DS was so overawed by it he spent nearly the whole time glued to my lap. This is the kid who last summer rushed headlong into the waves! I think he just needs to get used to it again, if we ever get to the beach again this summer.

Rosa · 28/07/2009 15:19

Buona Vacanza Franca.
Sputnik dd is also a bit funny about the beach this year . At home she was in her element but here the rocks, pool, stream and rolling sea seem too much for her this year and we have to potter with her . Glad you made it down there though to 'breathe' a bit ! Chucking it down here again !
