welcome!

Oh wow, I like the ped egg!!
Bucharest, have a great time in the UK, bring me back some butter !

Sputnik, I never bought on ebay (though I have really fab pairs of shoes I should sell... ), it scares the hell out of me... and I wouldn't trust instinctively the italian one. But I saw a friend of monday who bought practically everything (including beds) for her holiday home and was really impressed... perhaps I should give it a go.

Pippi, vacanza da pensionati is actually what I'm aiming for. Sitting on the sdraio reading all the papers... doing settimana enigmistica !
Pippi I saw the same thread on the heat you are talking about, I was going to post, but wasn't brave enough
I just hope the heat wave keeps until our friends' wedding... as I have a vestito leggero and I could freeze to a semi comatose state if the weather turns. A friend promised to lend me her coat.
Are you sure your hormones will let you read sophie's choice? I'll wait for you to finish it. I wonder how penthe is getting along with it.

Rosa at the stube... if she eats for free you could just send dd . And I'm a bit [envy[ at shopping at sainsbo. I miss it

Camo, are you coming to italy for the summer? (I might have asked it already, but I'm forgetful

Camomilla · 02/07/2009 09:00

yes, from 23/07 to 20/08, 4 weeks (might regret spending so much time with sis and mum, DP only coming to rescue me the last 10 days . If I was leaving later, then I would have loved to come meet you in Cambridge, we've been planning a w-end househunting there for ages, but just never seem to have the time or the weather is rubbish. Hope the weather keeps up for you! wow, haven't read outside LI for months! but can imagine what they're saying, went to pick DS up from school yesterday, DD in our summer sling and my semi-matching ikea family umbrella (a lot easier than fighting the buggy parasol, do they ever stay in place ) and got there just to listen to parents complaining about the heat! FGS, enjoy it, it won't last long!

Bucharest · 02/07/2009 09:08

...as you can see I'm packing and cleaning the house for dp......not....
Sput- yes, I sell on both, I have a look-see to see which would be likely to get more money for whatever old tat I'm selling.....(ie all the Winx rubbish dd got for her birthday went on Italian ebay) I think Italian ebay is fairly rubbish for buying as sellers by and large tend to go for Buy It Now and it's new stuff, so once you've paid the postage, you might as well go to a shop. I think as time passes and people start to get more into the second hand business it will take off...
I find Eastern Europe is a good market for second hand children's clothes- sold big bundle recently to Hungary. Clark's shoes etc....
Must must must go and find suitcases....(dd's will be filled with cuccioli cerca amici while mine gets the boring stuff)

Sputnik · 02/07/2009 13:41

Hmm, that's kind of what I thought Bucharest, so far I've put only BNWT stuff on ebay.it, apart from 1 dress. But it seems to be going ok, so now I'm in 2 minds whether to put some second hand Benetton stuff on there or UK, where it would probably only get 99p. Judging from the scrummage at our second hand stalls on the market Italians are overcoming their snobbery about second hand stuff though!

A friend in UK says she just sent a load of stuff to eastern europe, and I just sent a bump belt to Hungary and some Boden shorts to Germany, I think a lot of people must watch the uk site.

Have a fab time in the UK!

Bucharest · 02/07/2009 14:07

Yes, I think so.....I always keep an eye on the German ebay site- espesh for Playmobil- tends to be quite a bit cheaper and dd is a Playmobilholic...(in fact have just shut up the supermarket, house and airport in the ripostiglio so it doesn't get full of dust over the summer!

Sputnik · 02/07/2009 17:32

Oh good tip. DD's birthday is coming up, she could do with some playmobil...

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 03/07/2009 10:43

bucharest sorry for asking again, how old is your dd? I bought mine loads of playmobil for xmas but she hardly play with them. is she too young at almost 4? thought not. should I sell away or wait and see? to be fair she does not play with any toys really...she's got a world in her head!

I've got some playmobil that I def want to sell though - a massive castle with nights etc. should I wait xmas time?

franca remind me when is the cambridge meet up? next weekend?

gio71 · 03/07/2009 11:47

pippi sorry if have missed you saying about this but any news on school?
i need to figure out ebay selling, i buy regularly - need to balance it out by making some cash!

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 13:18

I think children start to be interested in Playmobil at around 4. But I wouldn't write it off as yet, they do change their tastes and she might become interested in the future! Having said that, both my dc aren't too keen on playmobil, though their fav game together is playing with the vast quantity of Papo knights, pirates, princesses, puffi, cucciolil cerca amici, gormiti etc.

Pippi, I've just received a detailed planning of the wedding (or shall I say uber wedding?) and the cerimonia is at 13 (I was in the conviction it was in the afternoon), so I'd be free in the morning, what sort of time would you be able to make it there?

OP posts:
Sputnik · 03/07/2009 13:35

I got my DD some playmobil for xmas when she was 4 1/2
She played with it intensively, left it for a while and then started again, she is playing with it now in fact. But I have noticed even a 1/2 a year later she plays with it in a more complex way IYSWIM.
at Cambs meet up

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 13:58

Come over Sputnik, if you bring a hat, I could smuggle all of you in the wedding, which -according to the detailed planning we've received -is going to be grand!!!

They do tend to leave toys/games and go back to them after a while. My dc often go back playing with the duplo, they still love it, as it is the right size to build stuff for their "personaggi"

OP posts:
Sputnik · 03/07/2009 14:19

Oh I'd come like a shot, I could even stay with my sis and borrow her hat, if it wasn't for 2 small people who would get hysterical.
Not to mention DH who would have a nervous breakdown. I have gone wrong somewhere!

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 14:24

Do you think I could borrow a hat from your sis? I'm starting to suspect my outfit will be too informal.

Off to work. ciao!

franca I suggest mad dash to john lewis on the 13th am.
will check train times and let you know. Are you with children or without? what about penthe?

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 20:56

I'm sans the dc.
Is John Lewis in the city centre?
Will email penthe. I wonder if she's been overwhelmed by the perspective nannies

Sputnik · 03/07/2009 21:32

Last time she posted she said she was having internet problems. JL is right in the centre, unless they've moved it, but I don't think so.

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 21:42

No, I think she is too busy interviewing nannies . I hope she survives the process, it'd scare the hell out of me.
Good, if it's in the centre. I only got the morning free, Pippi, you wouldn't mind wasting 10 mins in boots?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 21:43

I requested a catalogue from boden (yes, I'm that nostalgic), but the website seems to freak out when I write down my italian address.

OP posts:
Sputnik · 03/07/2009 21:52

Franca, I could recommend you and earn £2.50, or something. They don't seem to have a problem with sending me a zillion catalogues, but I never requested one, just got sent them because I ordered stuff.

Penthesileia · 03/07/2009 22:02

Hi everyone.

Welcome back from holidays, etc!

LOL @ "heatwave Britain" . Thank god Murray lost the tennis. I couldn't have stood the heat-talk and the tennis hysteria if he'd won the semis!

Yes, awful connection - particularly MN - my broadband provider seems to have a problem with MN - everytime I try to login in, it disconnects. Grrr.

DH lost my copy of Sophie's Choice temporarily - I only found it again yesterday, so still need to read it!

We've been interviewing nannies this week. Only one disaster, which was DH's our fault, really - bad interview. The other 4 were all varying degrees of possible, one in particular I liked a lot, but she had something else lined up, so looks like she's been taken already; one more on Monday, plus 3 more to arrange. Then we may have to go to an agency... But time is running short...

I've also been busy trying to get into work stuff: I've got a lot of post-grad work to read; reports to write; upgrades to plan; couple of supervisions to organise; undergrad dissertations to get off the ground; plus I'm supposed to be reading a book translated from French and commenting on the quality of the translation - but I'm dragging my heels on that one.... Sigh...

Cannot wait to meet up next Saturday - when will you be free in the morning, franca?

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 22:03

Or a pat in the back by Johnnie?

I keep receiving emails with offers etc, but somehow need a catalogue to make a choice .

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2009 22:06

Oiiiii Penthe!!!!!!!!
Happy to see you are surviving the interviewing process, I was getting worried!

I suppose I'll be free from 9sh to 12sh. Wedding is at 1, but it only takes 5 mins for me to get ready.

Hang on, I'll email you now.
