I know Edgarcat. I hate those damn things! What are they for? Is it to deter people from intentionally ramming you?

eidsvold · 25/04/2003 15:42

do not have baby on board rather driving dh's car which has baby supporter ( of his fav. football team) He has my car - which more often than not does not have a 'tiny person on board'!!

SamboM · 25/04/2003 16:07

The only funny car sticker I have ever seen said "My other sticker is funny" lol

Meid · 25/04/2003 16:15

I don't like those either. You are not going to change the way you drive just because the person in front of you has a baby on board sticker.

Meanmum · 25/04/2003 16:23

And I thought I was the only one who hated those baby on board stickers. I tol all of our friends and family before we had ds that I hated them in the hope they understood the subtlel, or not so subtle, sign I was giving them.

grommit · 25/04/2003 16:31

I hate those stickers, I need a sticker "very emotional, hormonal (pregant)woman on board - keep your distance"

bea · 25/04/2003 16:38

i hate those baby on baord stickers too!!! but westill have one... it just makes me feel better when parking in parent parking spaces.... sort of an unofficial... 'i can park here' statement!

jasper · 25/04/2003 17:48

I once saw a great cartoon of a couple in a doctor's surgery saying to the doctor "we'd like to try for a baby on board sticker"

nerdgirl · 25/04/2003 18:29

I have to say the "If you can read this, I've LOST MY CARAVAN!" sticker also made me chuckle the first time I saw it.

I think that's what I hate most about the "funny" stickers. It's like a five year old telling the same joke over and over again and still expecting you to laugh!

willow2 · 25/04/2003 19:09

Saw this - written upside down - on a landrover today.

If you can read this please turn me over.

Tinker · 25/04/2003 19:21

Someone got me a baby on Board sticker when I'd just had my daughter. I was horrified that they thought I was the kind of person who'd use one!!!!

willum · 25/04/2003 19:59

The mumsnet stickers are a fantstic Idea. It would be fun to look out for them and see who part of the club!!

On a serious note, I thought part of the reason for the baby on board signs was to quickly inform the emergency services if you had a crash. I remember seeing something on the television where there had been a crash and there was a sticker but no sign of the baby. They carried on looking and it turns out that the baby and it's seat had been thrown clear of the car. They asked people to remove them when traveling on their own. I think it was a programme that used to be on called 999.

SoupDragon · 25/04/2003 20:40

"If you can read this, you're too close. BACK OFF!"

OldieMum · 25/04/2003 20:49

Recently, I saw a car with a 'baby on board' sticker and a baby sitting in the child seat. The driver cut me up on a busy roundabout and then overtook someone else in the left hand lane. Perhaps she thought the sticker had a magical effect and gave her immunity to accidents!

Claireandrich · 25/04/2003 21:00

Willim - I was told this was reason too. I don't have one though as I am sure that I'd never remember to take it out. I doubt most people do either.

willum · 25/04/2003 21:54

I must admit on the rare occasion the car is used without the baby, I do forget to remove it!

jasper · 26/04/2003 09:34

sorry, I simply don't believe baby on board stickers are intended as a safety feature in the case of an accident. I think they are intended to make money for people who manufacture them

lucy123 · 26/04/2003 10:30

jasper, I used to think that too. I'd see a baby-on-board sticker and think "oh, well I'd better not crash into you then..."

However now I live in Spain where tailgating is endemic and I bought one hoping that some people would try to think of other ways in which they could let me know i should be going faster, or think twice before they undercut me as I'm about to overtake a lorry.

It may be my imagination but I do think that with the sticker, many tailgaters give me maybe an extra couple of inches or so.

MandyD · 26/04/2003 23:01

I don't have a car. Perhaps if I got one it could go on the back of DS's buggy or something

Tortington · 27/04/2003 00:05

OY MUMSNET CONTROLLERS for goodness sake get the hint and produce some badges ( a la other thread) and some car stickers someting like " i'm a mumsnetter whats your excuse"

why not buggy bumper stickers?

but dont babyfy everything some of us dont even like babies. so make it all emcompassing.

seriously tho, you could have a marketing fieldday and get richer because most of us want to buy a sodding badge at least.

Tortington · 27/04/2003 00:07

in fact i will be your marketing guru and have a whole "custardo says .." range of products

Chinchilla · 27/04/2003 10:19

What about 'My other vehicle is a Graco'!
