Dear Mumsnet,

Please help Mumsnetters recognise each other and get some Mumsnet car stickers made up. It would make life so much easier!

Love Ghengis

Phew, bombarded with great suggestions - does anyone knows anything about the cost (sorry to be dull) of this sort of thing or want to find out for us or even find us a sponsor who might pay for badges/ car stickers...

Meanmum · 27/04/2003 20:49

Did I see somewhere else on mumsnet something about buying stickers in Singapore over the web. If not it must have been a conversation I was having with a friend. I don't know any sites for you to look at but think these things can be produced cheaply and ordered over the net. If you are ordering from an Asian country then be very careful the spelling is proof read properly as I know of instances where things have come back wrongly due to communication barriers.

Your techies (excuse me if it is you as the techie) should be able to find you loads of sites. That's if they are anything like my techies at work.

Alternatively, is it not a job for the mumsnetter husbands/partners/boyfriends to get on the web and find the info out for you. From other threads they spend more time on their computers than they do with their families so at least it is for something the women want.

WideWebWitch · 27/04/2003 21:02

meanmum, err I don't think it has to be the husbands/partners! There are several mumsnet 'techies' and it's certainly women dominating the PC time in many of our houses Chinchilla, like the 'my other vehicle's a Graco/McLaren' slogan - it would identify mumsnetters without being completely obvious and mumsnet ought to be able to find a manufacturer interested in sponsoring that one.

Claireandrich · 27/04/2003 21:02

Just did a quick search for 'car window stickers uk' and came up with loads of sites offering customised stickers. Not just car ones either. You have to put in your info and requirements and you can get a free quote. One site gave the price of one-off, design yourself stickers - they were between £5-7 per sticker. Could be a lot cheaper for bulk orders though.

Just a thought. Can you buy the material for printing your own? If so, could the techies produce one design and do them?

Meanmum · 27/04/2003 21:05

WWW - I'm sure we women can design and produce a fantastic sticker. Unfortunately my sarcasm (worst form of humour I know) failed to come across on the web. I was just throwing in a reference to all the chats about our dh's etc that spend so much time on their computers and fail to help around the house.

WideWebWitch · 27/04/2003 21:09

OTOH, I suppose actually the stickers would have to say mumsnet wouldn't they? It's just that if I don't want to tell friends about mumsnet (because I selfishly want to carry on being anonymous) then I wouldn't put one in my car. If it just was for other mumsnetters to identify me though in car parks, parks etc etc, then I'd buy one and a badge. Maybe there could be 2 types? Sorry, I'm thinking aloud and this may all be too complicated!

WideWebWitch · 27/04/2003 21:11

Sorry meanmum, I completely misread that... goodness knows why, reading it again

Meanmum · 27/04/2003 21:11

I like the slogan idea so maybe it doesn't have to say mumsnetter on it just a slogan that we all recognise. A bit like the ribbon for aids day or daffodils for cancer research. I want to remain anonymous too so am selfishly working this cause.

Chinchilla · 27/04/2003 21:48

I think that car sticker/clothing badge idea is a GREAT one. I couldn't buy the books because ds is now a toddler, and I don't know anyone who is having a first baby. However, I would definitely buy a badge and car sticker. I think a small reference to the web site would be a good idea on the car sticker, as this would get more subscribers. For the badge, I think that should be something that only mumsnetters would recognise, sort of like the Mason's handshake idea!

I can see us taking over the world, with coffee shops offering us mumsnetters discounts on spotting the badge. Also, off-licences would give discounts on vodka Cadburys would let us in to the factory tour for free, knowing that we would buy lots of chocolate in the shop...is there no end to it all!??

By the way, Justine, Carrie and all, please can we have a 'Mumsnet Guide to Toddlers' book soon, and then I can add to your coffers even more!

mammya · 27/04/2003 22:22

I don't have a car but I also like the idea of a badge. How about a bage that just says "dod it"?

Chinchilla · 27/04/2003 22:38

Or what about a swear word with some of the letters replaced with asterisks! e.g. 'I'm a bl**dy Mumsnetter'

Tortington · 27/04/2003 22:51

when thinking about promotional items please dont babyfy everything , it makes me as a mum of older children feel daft.

wouldnt a selection be ht obvious solution then as the "other vehicle" slogan was rather good

taking into acount what WWW said why not make the slogan
"i want to be anonymous "

with the oblig smiley as above.

Oakmaiden · 27/04/2003 23:47

I saw a funny car sticker once - it read "Keep back - Mother-in-law in boot"

Well, it made ME laugh....

slug · 28/04/2003 10:11

You could have them personalised. "You're eyeballing slug..." etc.

How about...My other house is a yurt?

WideWebWitch · 28/04/2003 10:13

Slug, I'm following you around the board this morning and you're making me laugh! Whatever you're on it's good stuff!

slug · 28/04/2003 10:44

Naah, just avoiding having to talk to my students.

NQWWW · 28/04/2003 14:11

What about a secret handshake?

Tissy · 28/04/2003 14:14

How about a badge/sticker with the logo adapted from the Mumsnet book poster- two big pairs of feet, with a tiny pair between? Or is that a bit too babyfied?

SoupDragon · 28/04/2003 14:23

"my other vehicle's a McLaren" is a nice one - people might think I've got an F1 secreted in my garage

Furball · 28/04/2003 16:35

I like the logo

tigermoth · 28/04/2003 17:41

ahh here's the stickers conversation - I have been away and missed this.

Do like 'my other vehicles a mclaren'

Can well understand the wish not have 'mumsnet' on at least some of the stickers. I would not like to wear a mumsnet sticker near my son's school or nursery.

Like the idea of using common mumsnet phrases possibly with smileys.

Here's another sticker idea to add to the list -'HTH' or 'hope this helps'

Carriel · 28/04/2003 23:10

Chinchilla
The toddlers book will almost certainly happen at some stage, but sadly by the time it hits the bookshelves you may have moved on to the next stage - stil at least mumsnet's here in the meantime...Thanks to all for all the suggestions - all information and offers of help in making this stuff happen very welcome!

Demented · 28/04/2003 23:23

Could Mumsnet have a competition, perhaps allowing everyone two or three tries at a catchy sticker slogan or badge idea? Of course this depends on whether the stickers or badges are a goer or not.

I quite like the idea but I share a car with DH and don't think he would be chuffed if I put one on the car but maybe a buggy sticker.

Dannie · 29/04/2003 12:49

That rather groovy grey 'M' that appears as an icon when you put Mumsnet on your 'Favourites' menu would make a great lapel badge.

XAusted · 29/04/2003 21:07

It looks a bit like the Mothercare logo when it appears in my favourites list. How about "My other car is a cosy coupe"? Or "I'm a mother, get me out of here!".
