thing that upset me most re SATC film was when they made a big thing about Samantha's "fat" tummy at the end!! I dream of having a stomach like that!!!
Ground Force for Gio's family has been completed. The driveway was done, back lawn landscaped, front door painted etc. My parents had no idea and are still in shock now! Mum cried and my Dad just swore in shock apparently .Ahhhh it was lovely! Just gutted wasnt there although was at end of phone trying to hear everything.
How's your neck Franca? I have had a stiff neck on and off for a few months now, all because I let my hair dry naturally apparently!

gio71 · 17/04/2009 10:32

ps good luck re school Pippi.... Am on tenterhooks here as well waiting for the list to be released

Sputnik · 17/04/2009 12:25

What a lovely idea for you parents Gio, shame you couldn't see it.

Agree totally with BS over SATC. And another thing, much though I loved it I could never see the appeal of Big.

Ok Damon, please let me know when that arsehole Ben gets fired! (he'll probably win it)

Re schools, no way was DD getting into a scuola materna so we are going for the English School option. We are very lucky that our DCs are the only grandchildren on either side of our family and everyone is going to be chipping in. We are going to see a couple next week.

Penthesileia · 17/04/2009 12:36

Gio - that is so lovely!

Fingers crossed for you, Damon!

beforesunrise · 17/04/2009 13:02

Big is sooooo camp!!! i mean, he has been dyeing his hair since season 1 must say my fave among Carrie's boyfriends was the pervy politician...

Pippi i am anxious for you... let us know!!!

Rosa · 17/04/2009 13:29

Everyone keeps going on about that show what is it all about ? Is it like the Donald Trump thing ?
Sputnik lucky you re English schools our only one is Mestre and its too far I think we would not have got into the public materna but we managed to get a place at a private one that is not too expensive .

sod sod sod ds is non ammesso!!! Bastards!!!!

Rosa · 17/04/2009 15:04

Oh no Gio how annoying for you did you put in more than 1 choice ??? But I take it that the one y ou were after is just perfect ! See what place he is on teh scale he might be say 1 or 2 and someone might not take the place.

OP posts:
gio71 · 17/04/2009 15:32

he's way down it! they did say that last year everyone was taken in the end with drop outs etc by Dec but....
Next year I am lying on the form and getting points for everything cos am damn sure thats what other people did to get their zillion points!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/04/2009 15:53

my dd didn't get a place in none of the 3 schools!!!! [gutted]
now I've got to wait till they send the letter to see what to do about it. and there's all the week-end ahead... bollocks!!!!

Rosa · 17/04/2009 16:02

Oh no not you as well ...So where was she allocated a place - as they have to give her one Surely ?

Gio that is the right thing to do I am sure- A friend of mine wrote her own employment letter !!!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 17/04/2009 16:57

Oh crap for both of you
Didn't they tell you they'd never turned anyone away Gio? From what I understood when researching for DD you automatically go on the list for the next nearest, maybe when the dust settles he'll get in somewhere. Crap not knowing though.

I am beginning to realise the advantages of living out in the sticks, there was never a problem with the scuola materna. I know I'm going to have problems finding an asilo for DS too when we move, at the very least I'll probably end up paying 3x what I do now.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 17/04/2009 17:54

ciao everyone, just a quick hello to say I'm back! how did the meet up go? did you move in your palace Penthe? hope you all had a good break!

hope none of you/your family/friends have been affected by the terremoto

sorry you didn't get the schools you wanted! pippi, there's some sort of appeal thing, in the meantime your DD will get a place in the nearest available school I think. you can still be on the waiting list of your choice in case people move/they get their first choice etc (hope this makes sense, I'm on a "flying" log-in)

off to make dinner (what I don't know, it's been so nice having mum thinking about all that!!)

beforesunrise · 17/04/2009 19:31

fu*k pippi this really sucks!!! what borough are you in if you don't mind me asking? did she get any school at all?

and Gio- sh*t for you too... i don't know how the system works there but it sounds stupid!

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 17/04/2009 19:59

oh blimey, poor pippi. i thought she would get one of your choices as you live so close to them....

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/04/2009 20:02

Right, now after a friend came over and we both chatted about our relative disappointments (hers a bit greater than mine) I'm less gutted and feel ok and can talk about something else.

Sputnik I want to club that hideous Ben in the head if he's not out by next week. He's such an arrogant t**t! Will update you regularly. Have you watched yesterday?

Gio I'm so glad your parents liked it. I bet they were so chuffed and cried even more later when alone. My mum would have cried buckets for a fortnight. Less glad for your school thing. I bet we both will get in in the end by what a bugger to have to wait all this time and pray for drop-outs.

Sunflower, please explain. The email said 'Unfortunately it is not possible to offer a place for your child at any of the schools you stated as a preference in your application.
You will shortly receive a letter from the borough you applied to with full details of the decision and what to do next. Please read this letter before doing anything further.'

F*k F*k I've just reaqlised I put the wrong date of birth on the application form. A random date !!!! WTF?! Mind you they have the birth certificate... do you think that had smthing to do with it.

what an idiot!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/04/2009 20:05

BS comincia con b e fa rima con 'moquette' e e' quello vicino al tuo a est. si?

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 17/04/2009 20:32

dont think the date made a difference...but worth checking. i think they will right to tell you which school they have chosen for dd, an undersuscribed one unfortunately. What did you say to dd?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/04/2009 20:54

well the one they'll offer me, hopefully, is one with more tha one intake. and it's a good one as well. didn't put on list because big and because it would be the default chice iyswim. thay's the theory... but since everything is not how it seems... who knows?!

beforesunrise · 18/04/2009 07:26

ho capito pippi. allora siamo proprio vicine...

i hope you get things sorted. as my mum is fond of saying "a volte si chiude una porta e si apre un portone"

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 18/04/2009 08:14

yes we have that say as well BS. I've read the booklet and says that they will ask me to make a further choice but also to stay on the waiting lists. If a place becomes available there those come before my new choice. I'll call the schools on monday to find out what place on the waiting list dd is on.
BS your DD is not going this year is she?

Penthesileia · 18/04/2009 10:02

Damon & gio!! How aggravating. What's next?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 18/04/2009 11:34

Don't ask! Got the letter. Apperently yes I can remain on the list for the ones I've applied but I'm only allowed to add an extra choice from the undersubsribed ones or those with small waiting list. And the one I wanted is not in one of them. I was told that I'd be offered that as a default anyway but not so. On the form it clearly states that I am not to add one school that it's not on this list or that wasn;t on my original list.
I'll have to call them on monday and see.
This is a sad nightmare. A part of me is convincd that we will get a place at out first choice before the end of term. Another part says stop day dreaming and be more practical.

what should I do now? Should I add a crappy school anyway or refuse outright and hope for the best? what if she then does'n get a place anywhere?

Now I wish I had gone to church or had been not so snobbish to put a booldy RC school on the original form instead of the big school!!

I am so I feel that for my stupidity I have failed dd. I'm going to have such a crappy miserable weekend.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 18/04/2009 11:34

beginning of school term, I meant

Brangelina · 18/04/2009 15:40

[sock] What a bummer you guys. Still, all is not lost, I was in the same situation this time last year and it all sorted itself out for the best. Gio, can you not look at private convenzionate materne? Being Rome and a big city there are bound to be some non-religious ones, no? Unlike here in Bigotsville. At materna level the private ones aren't that expensive, here it's about 150 euros a month and I pay half that in mensa anyway at the materna statale.

I posted on a nursery thread. eek. Still, I'm going out in a little while so will probably miss the flak.
