DamonBradleylovesPippi · 06/05/2009 12:39

Oh you'd love it if it wasn't for the money. It's the liceo classico of the british primary schools! .

Rosa · 06/05/2009 13:59

5 mins of semi freedom, with DH off to post office and school and DD discovering our hallway in her walker...

Penthe, DP not in a band anymore - kids happened to all of them. pity, very good songs and he had a great voice, but for a series of mishaps things went wrong just as they were getting somewhere. still, at least he has some great stories to tell DS when he's old enough

never read sophie's choice, never seen the movie either, don't think I could now that I have ds and dd, I'm terrible, used to be so good at the not-crying thing... but maybe I should...

hope you feel better, brange and pippi, franca, seen anyone yet about your neck?

McCloudismynewnameforawhile · 06/05/2009 20:36

will join you on crapathon, have temperature too, could it be swine flu after all, lol...

would love to join you with bookclub, but would find the book tooo depressing, read it ages ago,...... Actually i migth try and get it from the library and see if i get through the first pages...I am reading 3 books at the same time [boasting emoticon], with the excuse of feeling crap dp has kindly taken over the kids for a few hours during hte day, and i have been sleeping and reading. Having said that he has just announced he has flu too, [yeah right] so that will be it, he will probably be horizontal till next week.

the bonjela saga has ended well, bollocked dp into returning it to the shop and swapping it for dentinox...

on a lighter note i thought the wonder spot was spot on fun, like a good episode of sex and the city...

are you going to see the gp about the neck franca? you should, especially whilst the drugs are working..

rosa, i bet your cakes are famous all over venice....

francagoestohollywood · 06/05/2009 22:06

Sorry to hear about the general feel of crappiness.

Rosa, would you ship your cakes to Lombardy as well? ...

Mccloud, I'm seeing my physio on fri and ask him what is the best path... I don't think italian gps are that much into backaches...

gio71 · 07/05/2009 08:59

room for another in the crapathon? ds vomited everywhere day before yesterday, sofa was covered, couldnt get it clean so is going to cost me a fortune to get it done professionally . That makes me sound really heartless and horrible doesnt it, Obviously was more concerned re ds .I have been feeling crap for 2 days now, temp, aches, blah blah. Childminder just turned up to take ds out, thought he was on mend but refused to leave me, got really upset. So she is going to make me a chicken brodo instead and do some shopping. Ds keeps handing me tissues and trying to wipe my nose bless him.

Rosa · 07/05/2009 10:22

Gio when dd threw up on my sofa to get the smell and the stain out I made a paste of bircarb of soda and rubbed it in like mad - on the carpet I used a brush but on the sofa I just used elbow grease. Then I left it to dry and hoovered it up . DId it twice and it worked. Mind you I have a cheap sofa from the SME..
Sorry about teh bugs they are still hanging round 2 children with temps at nursery am hoping it misses dd!
SUns out here and its looking warm !

Penthesileia · 07/05/2009 10:30

Oh, poor DS, and poor you, gio! I hope you are both feeling better soon. Chicken soup for the soul, and all that.

A sculpture walk would've been a walk around town via all the public sculpture (the council produces brochures, it's quite sweet). But we failed miserably.... because...

[blus h]

...as we were walking through town, we spotted loads of women with huge bags... Which we realised were from the Boden clearance sale, which was on in the town hall. So we went.

I didn't even make it to the bookshop to buy Sophie's Choice. Am so ashamed.

Bought some bits and pieces for DD, but managed not to buy anything for me, thank goodness, for once managing to resist that perverse temptation to buy any old crap just because it's on sale.

Che vergogna. I have truly joined the bourgeois ranks of MN.

Kill me now.

TheMysticMasseuse · 07/05/2009 12:52

i think you need to go through the rite of passage of buying something from boden, and then realise that it's a) crap quality b) dodgy colours and c) incredibly unflattering. that will cure you of any future temptations to indulge in this peculiarly mumsnettish obsession

children's stuff is ok though, although again not great quality esp the t-shirts...

i have looked up sophie's choice on wikipedia and i don't think i will ever have the fortitude to read it, but am in deep admiration of you lot for doing so!!! i have become a wimp since having kids...

my book club (yaayyy so excited) is converging on Miss Pettigrew lives for a day as a first choice... any of you read it? thoug i really want to read the wonder spot too...

Rosa · 07/05/2009 13:00

OH Penthe congratulations ..I have never bought anything from Boden as I think the prices are too inflamed - especially in childrens wear I have heard it is not as quality as everybody thinks it is and I am always too late in the sale !
Book club - how nice I want one mind you I better read books first !

Brangelina · 07/05/2009 13:09

I read Sophie's Choice when I was a heartless twentysomething. Couldn't read it now.

agree with Rosa re the bicarb to get the vomit smell out. It would with cat pee for me so it will definitely work with vomit. Sprinkle some lavender oil on it afterwards for good measure.

Sorry eveyone is feeling so unwell, I feel quite chastened as my crappiness was purely self indulgent (although I do have a huge spot on my chin!). How can one tell if they've got swine flu? Does it make you oink instead of sneezing?

Lol Penthe! I have also got over the buying any old crap just becuase there's 50% off habit. I think it's old age wisdom creeping up on me. I still buy a lot for DD in the sales though and she's now at the stage where she refuses to wear half of it. I don't mind boden kids but it is hugely overpriced, although it does have a good resale value on ebay.

Brangelina · 07/05/2009 13:10

MM, never read the Mrs Pettigrew book, must look it up on Amazon. Is it good?

francagoestohollywood · 07/05/2009 13:34

Oh no Gio . There are lots of nasty bugs around... hope the chicken soup helps a bit

I read Miss Pettegrew lives for a day, mainly as I love the covers of Persephone books . It is a good lighthearted start for your bookclub. Have you looked into any Barbara Pym at all? I used to love her, I think I should re read her books.
I read Sophie's choice this Christmas, while I was forced to stay in bed by the flu. Not sure if I cried. It is more shocking than tear jerking imo. Mind you, I've always cried very easily, but that has never stopped me from reading/watching emotional stuff, if it's something I'm interested in (I don't do miserable lit, btw).

Penthe: lol lol lol at being lured by a Boden sale. Lol at the rite of passage of buying Boden. It is utterly vile (a bit like another MN staple: next... ok, I'm sorry, i know Next is very much loved, but I need to be honest with you, I find it Please, please forgive me!) for adults, but I like it for children, the trousers are especially very good.

Re The swine flu. Brange, have you read a list of symptoms? They are exactly the same as normal flu symptoms. When do you panic and ring for the doctor? I mean they say it is important to treat it asap, but how do you know, when to ring the gp??????????????????

Brangelina · 07/05/2009 13:44

That was exactly why I was asking! Surely there must be one evident symptom to differentiate it from common flu? Maybe a sudden aversion to prosciutto crudo, but that wouldn't work in my case. Surely there must be a (possibly porcine) related hint that all is not normal?

No one's got it round here, as far as we know, so I'm not going to worry about it for now.

McC, is your's swine flu? are you growing bristles?

Brangelina · 07/05/2009 13:45

yours not your's .

francagoestohollywood · 07/05/2009 13:47

Sudden urge to roll in the mud? Addiction to Peppa Pig? Gosh the peppa pigs, I hope they are all right !Boh.

Yes, they say the peak would be in October, which is when the "normal" flu starts. So how the hell do you know whether you need the tamiflu or not? Very confusing.

Sputnik · 07/05/2009 13:56

I have to admit to a liking for Boden children's stuff too, DD has some t-shirts and hoodies that've been going strong for years (I buy on the large side). Definitely sale-only though.

francagoestohollywood · 07/05/2009 14:06

Yes hoodies are also very good.
I've never bought tshirts as they are very expensive (and you can get similarly nice ones in H&M), but trousers are not too badly priced (with the 20% discount), given that they last at least 2 yrs and can be handed down.

francagoestohollywood · 07/05/2009 14:07

No, hang on, I did buy tshirts as well. I once splashed (in the sales) on a pale pink tshirt for dd, which was utterly lovely.

Camomilla · 07/05/2009 14:25

penthe! but I've got a confession to make too.... I'm off to a Boden party next week! Friend of a friend is doing it, and I think friend felt a bit sorry for me the other day, when I was having a depressed billy-no-mates moment so invited me... (think she's trying to make me make friends with people she knows so that I'l be convinced to move closer to her... but def can't afford). In any case, I know I won't be buying anything (nothing in my size and have no money) unless they have some kids stuff, but am in crisi as I don't know what I should be wearing... topshop/miss selfridge/warehouse girl will surely stick out at Boden party me thinks....

TheMysticMasseuse · 07/05/2009 14:28

i think boden kids is good for the slightly different stuff, i have a couple of nice funky bits for dd1 (poor dd2 only wears vintage...), but i once bought some everyday t-shirts and they really didnt stand the test of time... gap is the best for that sort of stuff, you can wash it everyday and it still looks like new two years later.

camo... promise you'll report back on the boden party???? you can be our girl undercover

Camomilla · 07/05/2009 14:37

MM, not sure how undercover I will be! . I thought I shoudl be safe with jeans, but the choice is between skinny, boycut or long slightly flared (which I would have to wear with my platforms - OMG maybe I shoudl grow up or go shopping for an oufit worth it of a Boden party...)

francagoestohollywood · 07/05/2009 14:38

Lol at the boden party. Yes, you'll have to report back . I'm deffo more a topshop kind of person, though I fear I might be getting too old .
Have to go, school run time...

Sputnik · 07/05/2009 14:42

Unfortunatly Gap don't do mail order though, and there's no Gap here.
