Interesting question - cycle length v's pregnancy length

katzguk · 22/04/2005 09:08

we were having a discussion at work about period cycle length versus the length of pregnancy and found an interesting correlation.

Short cycles (24-26 days) = early babies
Long cycle (30+ days) = late babies
Normal cycles (28 days) = on or aorund due date

There were only 4 of us in the discussion so not at all scientific, so thought i'd ask the masses!!

me - 26 day cycle - 3 weeks early

sorry, my cycle is longish, 32 days, and ds was 3 weeks early.

Tinker · 22/04/2005 12:37

28 day cycle and 8 days late

hoxtonchick · 22/04/2005 12:37

it makes sense if you think about it - if you have short cycles you ovulate earlier than the average 14 days, so you've been pg for a bit longer so baby comes out sooner. it's the other way round for long cycles, you ovulate later so the baby's born later.

Interesting. I have more or less exactly 28 day cycles. My DS1 was one week early, DS2 was five days late and my DS3 was bang on time (although I think my acupuncturist kind of fixed that for me!).

marz · 22/04/2005 12:41

My two were 4 wks and 31/2 wks early. Very irregular and long cycles....

Flossam · 22/04/2005 12:41

30 day cycle. DS 15 days early. Sorry!

katzguk · 22/04/2005 12:42

oh well - see it pays to ask the oracle that is mumsnet!!

was just trying to guess whether my baby would be early or late or on time, trying to find trends and stuff.

Am due in 6.5weeks and DD was 3 weeks early would like this one to be on time!

28 day cycle. Went into labour on my due date (but didn't give birth until 2 days after...)

purpleturtle · 22/04/2005 12:44

28 day cycle, 2 weeks late both times

Toothache · 22/04/2005 12:45

31 day cycle...
Both kids 5 days early!

I know what day I conceived dd and it was on day 15 of my cycle.

mumfor1sttime · 22/04/2005 13:06

28 day cycle, and both dds arrived on their respective due dates

popsycal · 22/04/2005 13:11

but is this due date predicted by period or scan....because if it by period theb this WILL happen

Frizbe · 22/04/2005 13:12

28 day cycle, (usually!) dd 5 days late!

Prettybird · 22/04/2005 13:18

Short cycle (26 days) and ds was born on due date. Actually 3 days late if you take into account short cycle and leap year (doctors' cardboard calculaor thingies don't allow for the xtra days of a leap year!). I know when I conceived as well!

mumfor1sttime · 22/04/2005 13:26

I am so interested in this theory of knowing when you concieve!! Am I missing something?!!

mumfor1sttime · 22/04/2005 13:28

Maybe you are onto something ambrosia.....!!
