ah, we can only do 1000, so here's the new one, hope you find it !

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 08/05/2009 08:06

I don't recall even being told the surgeon's name.
It was funny though, and despite her bag lady appearances she was excellent, I had hardly any pain or discomfort despite having a nearly 2" scar

Am slightly and slightly [ewww] at hearing your MIL pee - that would be waaaay to close for comfort with my MIL.

We had a lovely meal out last night. They had a live jazz man (he was on his own so can't say band) playing. He was fab and O was completely taken with it. I am not normally a fan of jazz but this was fine.
Food was great too - fell off the diet a wee bit though.

Hope you are both well?

MargaretMountford · 08/05/2009 09:18

I'm so glad you had a great time and I think you are certainly allowed a non-diet treat now and again !
I suppose it's nice that MIL feels comfortable enough with me to wee audibly and chat at the same time - she ended up staying in the loo, sitting on it to finish our call
I think as you get older you lose various inhibitions perhaps (I couldn't have done it !) - she (and one of dh's brothers)0 are quite happy to mention various bowel things which makes me squirm !

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 08/05/2009 09:27

Now that is something to look forward to when I am older then!!
Mind you, my MIL seems to be going the other way. Apparently she had emergency bowel surgery last weekend and never told either of her two ds's. (Her dd is still on honeymoon) Sil found out by accident and phoned us.
Dh feeling hurt at not being told. She is an odd one that MIL of mine.

It is raining heavily here. I have nothing to do today but chores adn just cannot summon any motivation.

E was delighted with her new gym leotard, they all have to wear the offical club one so she is looking forward to next week's session!
It is quite cute really - dark blue on the top with lots of tiny little sparkly bits, and then a cobalt blue bit at the top - very vibrant and nothing pink!
She spent most of yesterday afternoon prancing about in it (we had to try it on to see if it fitted)

Right, better go and do the breakfast dishes, tidy the kitchen etc. Back later

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 08/05/2009 09:29

dark blue on the bottom, not top. Am all confuzzled!

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 09/05/2009 09:51

I have bored you both with my enthusing over a gymnastics leotard haven't I??

MargaretMountford · 09/05/2009 13:01

!

MargaretMountford · 10/05/2009 09:06

good morning...hope you've had good w/ends so far.
T is staying overnight with my mum and dad as we had our dinner party last night which was a big success I think - I'm relieved to say too ! haven't had people to dinner for years and was a bit rusty, but they are lovely friends and all the food turned out just right, the house looked lovely (though I say it myself !) and conversation flowed and everyone laughed a lot ! We had the very recommendable Pimms-alike called Pitchers which we made in a big jug with lemonade, ice, slices of cucumber, orange and mint leaves - yummy and quite potent, then antipasti things and rosemary foccacia followed by dh's wonderful Greek baked fish, salad and my puddings, lime cheesecake and rosewater & pistachio kulfi (which I was worried about - it seemed very perfumed but everyone seemed to like it) , cheese and biscuits and coffee. Washing up and clearing up took hours but it was worth it. I wonder when T will appear ?

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 10/05/2009 10:30

Wow, that sounds like a GREAT evening!

We had a quiet day yesterday. O was at an all-day drama club rehearsal in Claygate all day.
E had a swimming lesson - pleased to say she did well
We then popped into the leisure centre next door to watch half an hour of the Woking gymnastics club championships, she recognised two little girls from her class and it was fun watching them do their bit I could not tear her away from there, she was telling me what all the moves were called (that is a dollyroll mum' )

Today we are heading off to Claygate in about half an hour to drop O off for his final reheasal and then at 1pm we watch the performance. We then go home and he stays there for the 3.30 performance. Dh will then pick O and his friend M up at 5.30pm.

I start invigilating at school tomorrow - straight in with a 6 hour day. Am going to be shattered tomorrow night! Have monthly arriving as well so I know I will have a humdinger of a headache too Talk about bad timing! Never mind, that's life.

Hope you are both having a nice day today and are enjoying the sunshine

MargaretMountford · 10/05/2009 16:02

OMG ! a relation of mine was on Britain's Got Talent last night !! mum and dad were scanning the channels with T and landed on it...mum thought she looked familiar and she has a distinctive name !! she was doing belly dancing. When we were young she'd always only ever talk to me in French. Her dad is Sicilian and her mother is my dad's cousin - she is a beautiful, very elegant woman. Haven't seen this girl for years and years but it's unmistakably her !!
yikesSounds as though you've had a busy old weekend - good luck with the invigilating - hope headache won't be too bad...

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 10/05/2009 16:26

OMG - that was errrrr, brave?
Love her - she is brave I will give her that!!

O's performance was fab - dh has just headed off to collect the boys now. I have prepared a lasagna to just put in the oven tomorrow night - anything to make life easy tomorrow
Am sure invigilating will be fine, it is the media studies exam, so 3 hours, then a half hour break (in which we invigilators are not allowed to leave the hall because the papers need to be guarded) and then another 3 hours. It is a tough one for the pupils.
I am looking forward to it though, just not looking forward to the aching feet and inevitable headache. Sob.

Right, E is hounding me off the computer because she wants to play a game, so off I go

MargaretMountford · 10/05/2009 21:17

excellent news about O's performance - well done him !
Will be thinking of you at work tomorrow

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 11/05/2009 07:57

Just having a quick coffee whilst the children eat their cereal.

The play yesterday was absolutely brilliant - it was in a field at a riding school. It was a promenade play so we had to move to a different part of the field for every scene. Absolutely brilliant! The children have worked so very very hard this year!

Have a good day today both of you! MAs, good luck at the breast care nurse. I found mine fab!! She was truly lovely

Right, better go and supervise the urchins - E is in the process of trying to feed her cereal to dillydog and O has wandered off in search of lego models

Back tonight!

Hotcrossbunny · 11/05/2009 10:14

Morning!

Hope breast care nurse takes good care of you today MAS, and helps to put your mind at rest a little. Am thinking of you

Hippi - good luck with the invigilating. Hope your feet hold up OK.

Am loving hearing about your dinner party MAS - yum yum! Isn't it lovely when things all come together and go well? Sounds fab! Am still picking myself up after watching your Youtube clip - wasn't she brave?

Hippi, O's performance sounds great. I really hope that B eventually gets involved in something like it, I think it would do wonders for her confidence.

Well, I went to meet the little boy I'm supposed to be tutoring and it was all rather bizarre TBH. The house is ENORMOUS Big metal gates, with lions on the posts and an entry phone thing. I then ended up at the wrong door and they had to come and find me The dh barely said hello and raced off out, turns out he doesn't approve, so is distancing himself from it all... The mother is definitely a bit odd but the boy M is gorgeous. The mum has now decided she wants me to have 'fun' with M, not doing 3R's type work, but more project type stuff. It's a very very high achieving family and I'm feeling rather out of my depth TBH. I'll give it a go, but I can't see it working out really. I think for my first time I'll do a little booklet all about M. What he looks like, likes to eat etc and then maybe do a graph about the eye colours in the family. We can look on a map and see where we live... All in an hour a week Madness really!

Right off to clean the car, thanks to the thread on here about how clean MNers cars are!

MargaretMountford · 11/05/2009 13:07

going soon...dh working from home so he can take me. See how the tutoring goes Hotcross - your projects idea sounds very good. If it doesn't work out then you have tried!
When I used to mind S for the afternoons when she was in nursery I used to worry about what to occupy her with and felt obliged to think up little craft projects which was sometimes quite a challenge - she seemed happy if it involved glitter and sticking ! Now when I mind her and her brother it's for a shorter time and he likes to sit and watch Spongebob (which I like too !) -but I still feel I should be doing things with her so we do rush about in the garden, throw balls for the dog, take part in make believe games- exhausting !
Hope all has gone well today with invigilating Hippi

Hotcrossbunny · 11/05/2009 19:50

Hope it went OK today ladies!

I had a nice day. B came hurtling out of tennis with a medal hanging round her neck - she is a very very happy little girl

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 11/05/2009 20:23

Fab news about the tennis medal! Well done B!!

Invigilating was fab - quite an easy day today luckily (I thought it was going to be a tough one). We had a 1.5hr exam in the morning, then we had to supervise the pupils revising in the common room (so we got to sit down and drink coffee for an hour), then we had lunch and then another 1.5hr exam.
Tomorrow I need to be there at 8.15am (eek) and am bringing two friends too as they are so short of invigilators at the moment due to flu. Dh is going into work late due to a meeting so he is taking my two to school and friend W's dd aswell. Madness!

Right, O is due back from Cubs any minute, better go and get his pj's ready so he can be in bed straight away (because Ashes to Ashes is on!!)

Hope you got on okay today MAS!

Hotcross, your tutoring project sounds great - but what a bizarre setup, especially if the father does not approve.
But your project idea sounds fun!!

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 12/05/2009 11:32

MAS, everything ok? [worried emoticon]

Hotcrossbunny · 12/05/2009 11:54

Me too! Hope you're OK and just not managed to get near the computer yet xx

Glad invigilating went OK yesterday, Hippi. How was today?

I've just got back from hearing readers at school. I really enjoyed it, but wish I could do it every day. Some of these poor wee souls are struggling through lack of practice, not lack of ability. I wish there was money in the school's pot for extra support for reading...

I'm feeling a bit miffed but am probably BU. I'm trying to organise a book group with some of the mums from B's class. I was asked to do this, not my idea! Anyway, I asked around for best days of the week for everyone, then emailled a couple of dates for our first meeting, and only heard back from 2 people, so it's going to be this Thursday. Anyway, this morning 2 mums have said they can't come to the first meeting, just tell them what we're reading I was a wee bit short with them, and said as I'd only had replies from two people, that was why it's that date. But Grrrrrr!!! TBH I don't have high hopes for this.... Think it'll fizzle out through apathy and I'll wonder why I bothered!

Sorry, long moan B has gone in today armed with her medal to show!

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 12/05/2009 14:32

Hi Hotcross
I would be abotu the bookgroup thing too! I really want to set up a bookgroup here - must get on with that after invigilating ends...
Invigilating was brilliant today. We did Y9 Science SAT this morning, I had to be there for 8.15 so it was an early start!!
This afternoon I was on MFL orals - in the 'noisy' room where 16 or so pupils get to practise and then they get called into the quiet room to do their exam one by one.

Tomorow I have the morning off but am invigilating the music listening exam - looking forward to that one

Right, better go and do the dishes left in the sink from this morning and go to collect O and E

MargaretMountford · 12/05/2009 18:58

hello ! I'd be cross about bookgroup too hotcross..grr on your behalf. And well done B the tennis ace ! So glad invigilating is going so well hippi.
Sorry for not reporting back yesterday - difficult to get near computer when dh working from home.
Yesterday was fine and quite reassuring - it made things clearer anyway because we felt we hadn't really absorbed it all the last time with the consultant -we were trying to remember exactly what he'd said,so the breast care nurse went through it all again. They will take out a few lymph nodes too,so two incisions (the carcinoma in situ has spread slightly from being 'in situ' but only a small area,so nodes need to be checked) They glue it together - no stitches !
Radiotherapy afterwards in Southampton - there is a choice between there,Guildford or Reading - G/ford nearer of course, but they have transport door to door if you pick Southampton and as it's every day for several weeks then I think I'd feel less stressed being driven !
Today was the the pre-op tests which seemed fine- inthe main building just off the ward I'll be on - made me feel a bit queasy tbh.

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 12/05/2009 20:22

Phew, am so glad to hear from you
Glad to hear breastnurse was so reassuring, and am at no stitches!!
Being driven seems the sensible option - though if you had chosed Guildford we could have kept you company [snile]

Invigilating going well, am enjoying it so far

Hotcrossbunny · 13/05/2009 11:25

Glad you feel reassured MAS I often think consultants forget we don't all have a medical degree. The number of times I've come away from an appointment without really understanding what was said. Mad! I definitely think being driven is a good idea. Stock up on some decent easy read books, so you can switch your brain off a bit.

Glad invigilating is going well Hippi. I've just got back from my first tutoring session! TBH it's a complete joke. The wee boy is gorgeous, absolutely lovely, but he just wants to play! So I've had a great time with him, but not got through any of the stuff I've planned because he clearly isn't ready... Mum is still keen for me to come, but wants more formal teaching - history, geography etc. Have no idea how I'll manage that. Can see this not lasting more than a week or two. If she'd let me do some phonics and number work, then I could do it all through play, but she's looking for more academic research type work I think

Off to tidy. Our entire house is a wreck!

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2009 11:55

dear God -the mother sounds very odd...poor,poor child...am sure you will do your best for him - he'd be far better playing than studying. Think she might be storing up a whole heap of trouble for the future.

Hotcrossbunny · 13/05/2009 14:36

I know. Don't know what to do really. I guess I'll give it another couple of sessions, but think I'll be suggesting it's not happening.

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 13/05/2009 15:09

Good grief hotcross - that woman is insane!!
Is there any way you could sit down with her and tell her - both as a teacher and as a parent - that what she is planning for her ds is counter-productive? And explain that at this age he needs letter sounds, phonics and numbers? She sounds as mad as a box of frogs really!!

Just come back from invigilating a music listening exam - very very interesting!! Dh is getting O and E and then E and I will whizz of to her gymnastics

Back later
