How many threads is this now?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 09/03/2009 12:07

Oh, and good luck Zeb, fingers crossed for you.

I'm not a knitter btw. I haven't knitted since secondary school (a frighteningly long time ago).
I'm quite looking forward to taking the DC away on my own. They're a bit older now so quite easy to handle most of the time. I've chosen a campsite to make it as easy as possible, with all facilities on site.

Berrie, DP's in charge of choosing the boat but I've insisted that it has two cabins. I'm not sleeping in the kitchen. It will be some kind of motor cruiser thing rather than a narrow boat. Have you been with the DC? I'll be investing in some heavy duty life jackets that they'll be required to wear at all times, even in bed .

Berrie · 09/03/2009 12:11

No have not dared with Dc although my parents used to take me. My Ma wrote an article for Mother& Baby about it. My Dad says they used to tie a rope to me but my Mum says this is not true.
You can hire life jackets at the boat yard.

Where are you flying from? (Berrie begins to get jealous and plots once more to camp in Sardinia)

LyraSilvertongue · 09/03/2009 12:17

Stansted. That's not too difficult from where you are, is it?
Really, go for it. It's relatively cheap imo. I think Eurocamps has a site too but it's not open when we're going.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 09/03/2009 15:41

it all sounds lovely. I'm planning on taking DS camping here in Cornwall over the summer. Does anyone know any good campsites?

And seriously, knitting does hurt my back. I carry loads of tension under my shoulder blades and they way I knit doesn't help.

Lunch went really well, I'm just waiting to hear how much he's going to offer me. I can guarantee it will be less than I'm on now, but we shall see......

oggsdog · 09/03/2009 17:23

Sorry wasn't here earlier to wish you luck Zeb - a storm blew the phone connector and I've had to wait for dh to get home with a new one so haven't been able to get on since last night.

My mini DT hasn't arrived yet so I haven't decided where he's going to be living

Zeb and Berrie I haven't forgotten about Blackpool. My brother sent me a new dvd copying program and I used it today but don't have blank dvds with enough capacity to fit it on. I may have to shrink it. Bear with me... I'm not the most technically capable person .

Have just watched These Boots Were Made for Walking. It's not doing my obsession any good you know, and I've not even got to any of the steamier bits yet . I watched Dr Who last night too.

oggsdog · 09/03/2009 17:27

Lyra, I'm very of your boating holiday. I'd love to have a holiday on a narrow boat. There's a canal in Wales/Shropshire? that appeals, but can't remember the name of it.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 09/03/2009 17:33

We did the canal boat thing when I was little. It was great fun. I'd like to take DS one day, but maybe not just yet... camping this year, boating next I think.

Oggs, re Blackpool, I'm more interested in if you've seen it yet, than if you've copied it.

One of these days I'll put up a list of what I have for your delectation.

LyraSilvertongue · 09/03/2009 19:15

Really Oggs? DP has been trying to get me on a boat for years but I've always been a bit
Anyway DSs have been too young before now.
Berrie, did you check out any Sardinian campsites?
Sorry Zeb, never camped in Cornwall. Try the Camping topic, there's bound to be something there. Also trip advisor for reviews.

LyraSilvertongue · 09/03/2009 19:16

Oh, and I had a wisdom tooth out this afternoon. It was bloody unpleasant. I could hear the cracking as it broke away from the bone.

Berrie · 09/03/2009 19:23

Zeb, I'm your lady. What sort of site are you looking for?

I did look at sites but it was a bit too expensive when we can do a fortnight in the South of France for £679 all in.

Oggs, I worry about you.

Berrie · 09/03/2009 19:24

Actually I should just tell you the sites I know...no time now.
Glad your meeting went well.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 09/03/2009 20:41

I'm thinking about north Cornwall. Having just been up to basically Rock and Polzeath, which are beautiful in terms of scenery, I think it would be nice to head in that direction. I also know west/south Cornwall very well, so north Cornwall would be a nice change and actually feel like I'm going away, even if it's only a couple of days.

So any tips on child friendly etc etc, as I haven't camped since I left venture scouts and stopped doing DofE stuff. I'm not brave enough to go further affield like Lyra yet.

Berrie · 10/03/2009 07:51

We were looking at this one for this year though we've never been

Berrie · 10/03/2009 07:53

We like this one because the facilities are great, there is a whole field of playstuff and even a fort on a hill. It's a bit in the middle of nowhere and we've never been in peak season but there is a pool and very very clean facilities. It is also cheap.

Berrie · 10/03/2009 07:59

Our favaourite campsite of all time is a field on a farm in Treen but it's really just a field with a spidery toilet and shower block in a great location. There is another campsite on the beach in Pentewan near Mevagissey we used to love, also good facilities.
Do you have amping stuff? If it's only for a couple of nights I wouldn't bother with all the gear really. You could probably get away with one of those disposable bbq's if you wanted to cook at the tent, otherwise eat out and have a bag of food to graze on if need be.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 10/03/2009 08:52

Ooh, thanks Berrie. I also found this one which looks good. But Mother Ivey's looks lovely. A good point about the food, but I think I'll check with my brother (army type donchaknow) to see what kit he has. What sort of tent should I buy? Millets have this as a 'starter' kit, or is that totally girly?

LyraSilvertongue · 10/03/2009 09:26

That kit looks good Zeb. Quite large for two but good value.

Berrie · 10/03/2009 09:27

Zeb. I've never been to Polz...whatever. It looks really nice. That campsite looks a little slopey though...never comfortable at night.
That tent is great and ideal for a couple of nights. We have one very similar, it's easy to put up and just big enough for the extra stuff. I would just look at the same sort of thing that you can stand up in though if you think you might ever camp for longer. It's a pain having to pull your trousers on lying down and we do always wish we could stand up inside. Thinking about it though, a higher one might be trickier to erect on your own.

Another thing to consider is the sleeping bags. We don't bother with them, it's no trouble to sling your own duvets an pillows in the car and far more comfortable, warm and familiar. We also take a lilo, the kids just sleep on a duvet.

oggsdog · 10/03/2009 09:32

Dh and I went to Polzeath years ago. It was beautiful.
I have a memory block as to where we stayed though.

I managed to learn how to do screengrabs last night. That and the fact that I now have a good supply of DT dvd's does not bode well for my ailment

LyraSilvertongue · 10/03/2009 12:55

Berrie, I've started reading Twilight and it's stopping me doing anything else - I can't put it down. I'm in love with Edward Cullen. Sigh. I should be going to Sainsbury's now but I think I'll read a few more chapters instead...

Berrie · 10/03/2009 14:37

Oh I know...glad it's not just me. I read the second one but although I immediatly bought the last two, if I read them it'll all be over...and I'm not sure I want that.I'm saving them.
Oggs since the Twilight thing is not just me...it could be what you need to cure you of your DT affliction...on second thoughts...it may just increase the feeling of hopeless yearning...don't bother!

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 10/03/2009 15:59

So should I rush straight out and buy Twilight?

Thanks for the tips on tents, I just feel like a complete novice. I don't need to worry too much about standing up, I'm only 5'4" anyway.

LyraSilvertongue · 10/03/2009 15:59

It's like vacariously experiencing a massive teenage crush. Quite intoxicating.
So there are three more books?

LyraSilvertongue · 10/03/2009 16:01

Zeb, it's very teenage but completely addictive. I've done nothing today except read and then I was annoyed that I had to put the book down to collect DSs from school.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 10/03/2009 16:28

I'm on a train with my important colleagues tomorrow, I have a feeling that this might be inappropriate reading seeing as how important I am too. Maybe I should go for something more highbrow.
