How many threads is this now?

OP posts:
oggsdog · 28/02/2009 18:45

Trouble is Berrie, I've not read a lot on the list specifically because I don't want to read them .

Berrie · 01/03/2009 08:19

Tee Hee

How are you feeling today Oggs?

Berrie · 01/03/2009 08:20

I have just had Middlemarch from my Mum...it's very fat and the writing is small.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 01/03/2009 10:01

Cough. I read both Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men at school. Sorry.
I know what you mean about 'mum books' though.

Middlemarch. Yes. It's fat. The writing's small. But it's basically a soap opera, complete with characters who need a good shaking or a good slapping. Great stuff.

What's everyone up to today?

oggsdog · 01/03/2009 10:12

Hopefully knitting, organising my yarns and eating bacon, sausage and mushroom butties .

More likely hoovering, washing, getting dd's things sorted for tomorrow and cleaning out the chicken house .

oggsdog · 01/03/2009 10:23

Feeling a lot better thanks Berrie. Still coughing and gunged up but much better and clearer in the head now.

Did you read all those for O level Zeb or A level?

For O level I remember doing Pygmalion, Animal Farm, 1984, Wilfred Owen, Merchant of Venice, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night etc
For A level, Anthony and Cleopatra, The Changeling, Ted Hughes, Chaucer etc

All I can remember about A level Spanish Lit was a book called Pensativa and Don Quixote.

We didn't do any Austen, Eliot or Hardy at school or college.

Berrie · 01/03/2009 12:44

Oh horror of horrors, The Wasteland...

Today I have pulled a load of brambles out of the hawthorn tree with a view to making it a hawthorn hedge once more...not sure how to do this however. I got a bit lopper happy and there is now a huge hole in our boundry but things get worse before they get better. (or this is how I explained it to dh) Dh did some makeshift fencing to stop dc's falling off the end of the garden into the stream. then he started trying to prettify our new car (drove the Volvo to the scrappers yeasterdy) While he did that, I lopped again at an ugly thicket at the top of the drive. This too looks terrible, not to mention the piles of branches that need taking away. I have this idea that I am going to create a cottage garden at the front but am not sure how the family will feel if I turn our new conservatory into a greenhouse...
This afternoon, dh hopes he has bought himself enough points to go flying. Upon his return we will go and see FIL and also take ds to an open space to ride his bike. (It's too hilly around here) Am beginning tpomaccept that once more we won't have time to take dc swimming. The house looks like weve been burgled and no-one has ironed clothes for tomorrow...oh yes and we are supposed to be doing the budjet.

LyraSilvertongue · 01/03/2009 12:51

Your garden and drive sound huge Berrie.
I still have to takew down the ugly rectangular hedge at the end of our drive. It looks ridiculous stuck there on its own as no-one else in the street has a hedge. The whole front needs doing actually because the previous owners concreted over the whole thing.
Today I am feeling a little ill after going to a friend's 40th birthday party last night. It was the first time I'd seen her renovated house and it's gorgeous. I went to this party after doing a double shift and got home at 1.30am so I'm a little tired today. And I'm supposed to be going out again tonight to celebrate anoither friend's birthday and I'm up at 5.30am for work tomorrow. Groan.
Today we are going to plant seeds in the new vegetable patch DP created this week. The boys have chosen carrots, cabbage, purple sprouting broccoli, and herbs to get us started. Then we'll go out for a late lunch/early dinner before I head to the pub. Can't face taking them swimming today.

LyraSilvertongue · 01/03/2009 13:00

Have you ever grown tomatoes Berrie? I'm planning to buy one of these which I'll put in a sunny spot on the patio to grow tomatoes in. I've never done it before so it might not work.

Berrie · 01/03/2009 19:04

You will have to take the shelves out for tomatoes as they grow rather big and two plants would be a squeeze. You will be able to grow tomatoes in the open air though, especially where you are so long as you wait a bit.

Dh and I are exhausted after all the garden stuff. We managed to burn all of the thicket from the top of the drive but there is a huge pile of brambles from the side boundry that we couldn't face.

oggsdog · 01/03/2009 19:48

On the lash again tonight Lyra? Hope you recovered from last night before you start again

Crikey, you've been busy Berrie. Got any plans for tonight?

You alright Zeb?

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 02/03/2009 08:38

Blimey! All this gardening industry is putting me to shame. But at least I have an excuse. And when I finally move into my new house, I'll be getting advice from you guys on growing in pots & tubs as the garden's basically gravel.

I gave DS the choice yesterday, local park and playground or the Jungle (Eden Project). The slide and swings one, saving me at least £15. And a good time was had by all. Oh, followed by my pretend birthday party with chocolate fudge cake, having convinced him I did NOT want a Charlie & Lola cake.

How was the house envy Lyra? I get that every time I visit my sister in Nappy Valley

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 02/03/2009 08:39

And the sun's shining. Hurrah!!!!!!

oggsdog · 02/03/2009 08:40

Morning {smile]

Don't suppose any of you know where my inhalers are hiding? I keep them both in a bright green knitted pouch and as of yesterday evening I can't find it anywhere .

I do have spare inhalers (sort of; one of them is a lower dosage), but it's one of those things that is bugging the hell out of me and will do until I find it.

I didn't go out yesterday so it must be somewhere in here...

I've even checked in the fridge

Berrie · 02/03/2009 09:41

Found them yet?

Worst time to be turning the place upside down looking for inhalers when you actually need to be taking one. Done it many times!

Last night we collapsed on the sofa and watched a Vogager. fortuatly the next episode of Battle star Gallactica did not work.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 02/03/2009 10:21

Have you checked in the freezer and down the back of the sofa? And if you ARE in the tardis, have you found DT?

Berrie · 02/03/2009 10:39

Give him one from me if you stumble upon him.

oggsdog · 02/03/2009 17:03

D'oh! They were down the back of the toaster.

Of course! First place I should have looked . Unfortunately I didn't discover Mr Tennant during the hunt.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/03/2009 18:55

I watched an old episode of Dr Who last week, his second I believe, the one in the high school with the winged aliens. he had rubbish floppy hair back then.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/03/2009 18:57

I'm absolutely shattered after two nights out on the trot and an early start. DP is in Washington all week so I'll be going to bed early with my book.

oggsdog · 02/03/2009 19:04

Are you still at work Lyra?

How very dare you cast aspersions on the floppiness of DT's hair .
I love a bit of floppy

LyraSilvertongue · 02/03/2009 19:05

I prefer it sticking up, myself.
Oooer mrs.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/03/2009 19:06

Home from work and about to put brats angels to bed.

oggsdog · 02/03/2009 19:17

Have a lovely lazy night - got a good book?

LyraSilvertongue · 02/03/2009 19:18
