Do you read Mills and Boon too?

Semolina... I know, I know. Please make allowances for the sick lady.

In reply. No. I don't read Mills & Boon, thank you very much. However many times you ask the question! [harrumph]

oggsdog · 27/02/2009 12:04

Am so not having a good day.
I have to fill my washing machine by hosepipe and I started it filling then got distracted. I wandered back into the kitchen to find the drum full and just about to overflow.
Can't get motivated to do anything

Berrie · 27/02/2009 12:26

Well I have just eaten half a cake

Berrie · 27/02/2009 12:26

...and a secret muffin

Berrie · 27/02/2009 12:28

...which is a plain healthy looking muffin, with chocolate hidden inside as they are not allowed chocolate at school...or at least this is what ds thinks which suits me...we had a lot of fun being subversive with the muffins but it is a shame that they spit out the blueberries when I put those in.

Berrie · 27/02/2009 12:30

They do like the ones with blackberries in b ut these have run out and there won't be as many this year. The allotment next door to mine with all the brambles has been razed to the ground and he's blocked off the handy path from the carpark

Berrie · 27/02/2009 12:33

Forgive me for rattling on, I've got to go to work in a minute. I was supposed to be there this morning but the Head caught me on the phone as I dropped off dd and was hugely apologetic because the children I were due to teach were going to a Basketball tournament. She grovelled but I was most gracious as I was thinking Tee hee hee, I don't have to go - I don't have to go!!
Right off I go!
Hope you fel better soon Ogglet!

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 27/02/2009 13:49

Berrie - don't bother with Mr Hardy. He's really grim. I read Jude the Obscure the night before I started my finals. Big mistake. But we love your 'secret muffins' here at work. Made us all laugh!

oggsdog · 27/02/2009 14:51

Thanks Berrie. I'm still feeling crappy but have spent the last couple of hours making a cheesecake (packet variety ) and photographing and cataloging some of my wool.

I've not read any Hardy but dh often watches Far from the Madding Crowd. I just want to slap Bathsheba.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 27/02/2009 14:59

Yeah, you get that with all his heroines. Tess, frankly, is a dim doormat. Give me Elizabeth Bennett any day.

Sounds like a fun afternoon Oggs.

oggsdog · 27/02/2009 15:10

D'oh! Of course Tess is one of his isn't she?

My Mum taped the last serialisatiion of Tess for me and I couldn't watch more than the first half hour. Ack. It made me want to spit.

What do you mean Mrs Mills and Boon?
Saying I'm boring??

I've actually had a lovely time . Looking frantically around now for things to do so that it looks like I've been hard at work.
I'll leave the hoover in the middle of the floor and put the washer on

Berrie · 27/02/2009 16:06

Ho ho ho, the hoover trick...better still, the hoover out and the ironing board up (no need to actually do any)...except that Oggs does not have one...oh well.

I've read Hardy's poetry...does that count? I'll give him a miss then. I do have an Austen lying around somewhere that I bought to improve myself. It's either Persuasion or Pride and Prejudice.
I have a theory that Mills and Boon is just the old version of chic lit and I've read PILES of that

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 27/02/2009 16:15

Whatever gets you through the night

And Mills and Boon are just badly written re-writes of Pride & Prejudice or Persuasion. Tell you what, go and watch Lost in Austen, which was just fab.

oggsdog · 27/02/2009 17:43

I actually went through a phase (about 6 months) of reading Mills and Boon when I was a teenager . They were soooo predictable.. and tame .

Still coughing... and wishing I'd worked harder on my pelvic floor

LyraSilvertongue · 27/02/2009 21:01

Georgette Heyer!
I can't read anything of hers - my mum had shelves full of her books so therefore they are 'mum books' and if I read them i become my mother
I did read lots of Jackie Collins when I was a teenager (when I should have been reading those classics )

Berrie · 28/02/2009 09:01

We could have our own book club! It would be tricky to find a classic that Zeb hadn't read but there are 40 or so on that list she has not read!

LyraSilvertongue · 28/02/2009 11:12

Has anyone else read the John Steinbecks> I've read the Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men and they were very good. Only 8 more to go and I'll have read them all.

Berrie · 28/02/2009 15:54

Grapes or Wrath only.
