agree with Pippi but defintely check small print re insurance. After watching Sicko I am the most paranoid, suspicious person re insurance companies plus got shafted by British Gas cover and small print! Hate them!
How long would they pay mortgage for? What business does your DH want to do? How will you feel if DH is at home and you go back to work? I know it does work for some people but I know personally I would resent dp like mad and would be inspecting for dust on shelves etc on my return!
I live in Rome Sunflower.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/02/2009 10:43

javier, thanks

his boss has been a right * from the start really but at least he'd give him the letter which would help us. it just made sense though to wait til the summer when they're less busy!

hmmm, the more I think/read about it, I know that 3 is the best option as you say pippi... DP wouldn't mind being a SAHD, he did it for a few months before, and he is really unhappy at work... the house needs "finishing touches", just those little things that you can live without for a while as not essential for living but needs doing eventually (especially after 6 years as they're doing my head in now), if we want to sell/rent. the insurance would pay as we've paid for jobloss/illness protection. And I'd have the best of both worlds being away from home only for 2 days a week but still have DP looking after DCs while I work from home... thanks, it's nice to have objective views...

was that the snobbish school?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/02/2009 11:06

it was yes. I'm happy as at least I know now which one is my first choice. cannot do snob.

sunflower if you are out of the house only for 2 days it's fab. mind you be careful you do not end up having to look after the kids on your working day as well. but I'm sure you know your dp.

ead the small print as I've heard horror stories where it won't cover. is it that PPI thing? if you can get them to pay the mortgage do it, as in most cases that ins is a rip off.

when are you going to italy again?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/02/2009 11:13

sorry, been giving some baby porridge to dd, went better than yesterday, now she's having milk and "eliminating" at the same time....

gio, I inspect anyway ...

if I had to go back f/t and office only, I'd stay at home too though. will doublecheck but that cover alone is £50 pm, so they'd better (our friend didn't have it, got sacked when his wife was 7 months pg, so won't risk it it!)

gio, I really love Caorle, but not sure about prices, they do camping too

I'm off on the 5th, back 16th

javierbardem · 25/02/2009 12:15

what is like the school you chose then?

Rosa · 25/02/2009 13:21

Is it just my set up or is there a big advert on the right of the page and you have to scroll down to find the thread - annoying !
I would say 3 as well but would you be happy going back FT ?
Could your DH ask to be taken back on when things get better or is the boss too much of a sH*t not to let him ?
I should go and wash up lunch things am shattered as minirosa waking up twice a night now and also a bit in the middle for a shusshhhh !

damon, do you want a marcella serrano novel, i am not a fan of south american lit.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/02/2009 16:23

DD decided to sleep for an hour on my achey arm (and full bladder )... anyway, thanks for all your thoughts, I've told him we're going for 3 as long as he gets his act together with his business, and the house. his boss has been a real pain today too (all his colleagues can't believe how much of an a*se is being), so doubt he'll be back there. we'll have the mortgage paid for 2 years in the worst case scenario, and there shouldn't be any need for me to go ft as we've been paying loads into our c-card to clear it and it's nearly £0, so all that money is now not "essential" (still good though)

right, enough of this, my head is spinning...

have to do a bit of a meal planner search now, for dd, can't believe how much I've forgotten about this stage!!! getting old... even older in just over a week! OMG, where's the time going!?!?

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 16:23

Javier, sorry I didn't answer your question re Elena Ferrante. Never heard of her, but will google, I trust your tastes!

Sunflower, I'd go with n.3. I'm really shocked at how expensive child care is in the UK.

Pippi, sorry I didn't answer about the school, but to be honest I only visited our local school in Exeter and can't remember what I asked. Probably not much, as I had no idea. I'm glad the visit made you appreciate the other school even more.

Have to go and pick up dd as she has more social life than me and is playing at another friend's house.

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 16:28

Gio, have been thinking about your summer holidays... Le Marche are a good place. Not too expensive, nice food (the sea is not particularly beautiful, UNLESS you go to the Conero). But you'd need a car to travel around in the beautiful entroterra.

Sunflower, make her pappe! Boil carrot, sweet potato, pumpkin, courgette. Blend. A teaspoon of extraverging olive oil. 1 tblspoon of parmigiano or ricotta. Yummie!

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 16:29

lol at extraverging soirry

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 16:37

Gio: del conero. It is beautiful. Possibly a bit too incasinato in August though. Mind you, what isn't in August?
Or Gargano?

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 16:38

sorry, right link

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 16:51

oh sunflower is it your birthday soon?

I'm all alone on here, am I not

I wonder where Brange's gone.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/02/2009 17:13

there, 5 mins while I have a cup of earl grey before I start dinner (well, need to decide what we're having first....)

yes, I've actually realised it's in a week

when are you coming over la manica? have you booked yet?

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 17:57

Haven't booked yet... . It is a job left to dh... who is a last minute person

I think around the 5th of April, so I won't see you ... but we could meet in Caorle in the summer

Have I told you I used to go to Duna Verde, well before you were born sun? I think I have.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/02/2009 18:29

whoever is here on the 4th is invited to dd2's party!

spent all aft opening boxes and going through diari di scuola (che deficienza!) and throwing away music tapes . oh well.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/02/2009 18:30

rosa I've got the gap at the beginning of the thread too - mighty annoying I agree!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/02/2009 18:32

javier, school I'm going for is local state, 5 min away, lovely and sweet, ofsted very good. I just hopw now she gets a place. sara' quel che sara' anyway.

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 18:57

Oh Pippi, I forced myself to throw away lots of music taps and some vhs (though I kept all my moretti collection and some of those issued by L'Unita'. Remember?)

Finger crossed for your dd to get a place!

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 18:58

Rosa · 25/02/2009 18:59

Anyone here on the 7th invited to dd1s party .... I am texting and writing invites right now!!
Franca are you coming to Caorle this summer ??? I will be here until July 9th we might if we can afford it go to the mountians for a few days in June.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 19:03

Not exactly rosa, but dh has 2 weeks at the end of June (no teaching, no exams, no sessioni di laurea...) and we were thinking of visiting Trieste and go camping in Istria. We were even thinking of 1 full day in Venice, if dh's relatives can have the 4 of us for a night in Pd.

francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2009 19:03

Not exactly caorle I meant

javierbardem · 25/02/2009 19:40
