lol- so pleased to hear that BS!
It reminds me, I went to the hairdresser (dragged kicking and screaming by my Mum- I'd rather go to the dentist) for the first time since 1986 when I was pg with dd (2003)

Penthesileia · 01/02/2009 13:27

Monkeysmama & ladies - I'm sure you look fab in skinny jeans! I shouldn't have made an issue of age; I think it's more that I've never tried consciously to follow fashion, and skinny jeans are currently fashionable (I don't dress like a bag lady, I hasten to add), so I'm not sure if it's "me"; plus, don't want to look like I'm suddenly trying too hard.

But these skinny jeans are indigo, and quite pretty.

Will try them on. gio - I will if you will!

Bucharest - nearly 6ft! Wow. I'm quite envious; I'm 5'8"/173cm, but I'd like to be taller.

Pippi - bet you're not a slummy mummy, mon amour!

beforesunrise - hairbrushes are overrated - give my hair static!

Rosa - I'd love to see some photos!

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 16:10

penthe trust me I so am but I wish I wasn't. It's 4pm and I'm still in (not pretty PJs) and so are my daughters. It's just the lack of time so smtimes I make an effort, like when I'm in italy and mum looks after the kids and I can spend half an hour in the bathroom before going out. Last time I managed to pluck my eyebrows and sort out my nails and hands... how sad. In re to brush, BS I never had one either and the most I'm prepared to do with my hair is to put some stuf on when it's wet and leave it to it.

Please look at this. It's a wonderful story.
She did family photograps for my friends and are beautiful and soo natural and not staged. Thinking of having them done as well as DH's birthday present.

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 16:12

Having said that I've decided next week I'm going to the hairdresser!!! Basta!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 16:13

PS: well done for not going back to that thread BS. It was foul!

hothell · 01/02/2009 16:29

Great photography, do you know where she is based? A beautiful story.

hothell · 01/02/2009 16:51

does anybody know if a recipe says to use 'salt pork (green bacon)" i can use just normal bacon?

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 18:09

Well hello ladies. We went to visit some relatives of dh, we had a lovely time with all the children etc, but I must be the queen of saddos (sp?) as I missed you all !

Btw, I haven't read what's been posted in details, but:

Gio: at Ostia. Is ti mild there? It's cold and sort of snowing here. Fed up with winter now.

Penthe & MM you are young

BS: I sent mine to nursery p/t and I didn't even have a job shock]

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 19:16

franca!

Hot she's in Muswell Hill but I believe she goes anywhere. apparently she comes to the house and stays for a long time and chat and makes everyone feel just normal. (I might do some beauty farm before hand though ). I don;t think it's particulary cheap but I'll give her a ring tomorrow and let you know.

hothell · 01/02/2009 19:26

IT IS SNOWING IN LONDON!!!! The east end is white!

i would have to tidy up the house if she came round to take pics! is she a mate of yours, i will see if she has website with othe work.

hothell · 01/02/2009 19:27

Franca, i wondered where you were, you must always be on Mumsnet, I worry otherwise.

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 19:29

We stayed at a house that could put any grand design at shame

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 19:33

I saw you mention Revolutionary road. I'm still reading it. I really like Richard Yates. I read The Easter Parade and A special providence. Fantastic writer.
I'm looking forward to watch the movie, also because - and I'm not ashamed to say it [grin - I like Leonardo Di Caprio

hothell · 01/02/2009 19:39

he has certainly improved with age. (di caprio)

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 19:44

it has but not a fan of his looks. he looks too babyish even older. about grand design house.
She took pics of my best friend's family. I've never met her.

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 19:44

And in interviews he always appears as a decent man. And a democratic!!!
I need to go and put the dc to bed, we are more than 30 mins late on the tabella di marcia

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 19:45

Oh I think now he looks to babyish. But I fancied him in Romeo and Juliet. I like younger men

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 20:12

To you all living in italy: how are schools in italy in regards to absence? are they as strict as here?

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 20:12

oh that webpage made me cry Pippi! The girl is indeed beautiful!

sadly I do think I need a hairbrush now, my hair is no longer crazy/curly in a beautiful way, just crazy! luckily i found a great (italian, of course!) hairdresser near me so for once i have a decent cut.

And no way i am going back to THAT thread- it left me really disgusted actually. I think there is a bit of a herd mentality on Mnet sometimes, where everyone wants to do outdo each other in being sharp and sarcastic and once the mood of a thread is set it's really hard to change it.

we have snow tonight! v exciting, although i am sure it'll be less exciting tomorrow morning when we have to go to nursery at 8.30!

today the whole sunrise family took a meganap of 2.5hours, almost unheard of tbh that the girls sleep so long simultaneously! i woke up feeling i had been in a coma for about 10 years... was nice, but now of course dd1 is mega awake and totally uninterested in going to sleep... gggrrrrr

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 20:14

me no like di caprio either, he looks like an old baby, weird...

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 20:27

Absence: it probably depends on the school and then the teachers. In ds's classroom absent children have to catch up on all the work the others did. Plus they are given lots of homework during the holidays!
Mind you, when ds was in reception in the uk he lost 3 school days before the Easter holidays as me and dh went to San Francisco, and the head teacher was totally ok with it. But it was reception, might have been different in yr1 etc.

BS: how lovely an afternoon nap (I've never found a hairdresser in Exeter who was able to tame my frizzy Italian hair. They gave me gorgeous haircut, which would have looked great on very straight hair... instead my hair went wild after the first time I had to wash them.)

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 20:35

I want a good hairdresser! friday I went to brent cross and this woman had the haircut I've been trying to get for ages biut no one manages to understand/make. luckily her hairdresser is near me so I might try it next week.
A friend goes to a good italian guy but is somewhere east and it's too far from me.

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 20:36

must admit I am a bit scared of no absence rule.

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 20:39

what do they mean with "no absence" rule? Surely it doesn't include illness, I hope?

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 20:44

oh sure. it's just that it all seems so rigid. don't remember it that way when I was young (settimana bianca odd day etc - not saying it was right). maybe I' overreacting and it's just a way of externalise my panic at my LO flying the nest .
