Oh I know how it feels. I was totally against the idea of ds entering formal education at such a young age. Dd would have started school in January . But she is a different kettle of fish.
I think over all schools in the Uk have a fair amount of holidays. However I suffered being stuck in rainy devon in July, knowing I could have been enjoying a drier weather
I'm pretty sure, your dd will love school. Reception is pretty lovely

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 20:58

Oh yes she will I am sure. I have no worries over her. But will I? I cannot believe all those years in which she was just mine are almost gone and I feel guilty because I did not really appreciate it...
sorry to be a moaning pain but I am a bit miserable tonight at the thought. ans she'll be away all day.... wheeeeee

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 21:04

Pippi. my hairdersser is not far from Brent Cross at all, so shout if you want the details!

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 21:08

Awww Pippi

Blimey, I've never felt like this about mine You've been a fantastic and dedicated mum, and you'll still be. It's just another, different step in motherhood, and quite rewarding too! Plus it's not "whole day", trust me, you'll be surprised at how quickly it gets to 3.30

Rosa · 01/02/2009 21:08

That website is moving and the pcs lovely. We made it to thw festa this pm in rain / sleet and snow - one very grumpy dh but I was determined to go as it was mums from dd1 era so worth it and also not too far. Dd1 ate so many margherita biscuits I lost count. A photographer friend took some pics of them both and I cannot wait to see them as he did some superb ones of dd1.
It was lovely just to chat amd minirosa was admired by all- got home and she did a HUGE poo all over vest, back , tights , top sp glad she waited until she was back .
Rain forecast all week ...nooooo.
Here they are ok ish with missing school ( according to friends) but you have to catch up. I think that until they go to secondary school it is ok to take them out for a week or so . Some people cannot take holiday when it is school holidays and if the child is intellegent then I do not see the problem - ok the school might not see it that way !!

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 21:09

YEEEEEES I WANT IT!!!!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 21:10

Hello rosa, so happy you had a nice chatty day ( at the huge poo)

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 21:14

some of those poos have such force it's unbelievable isn't it. like geizers (sp?).

tes you're right franca, imagine the free time...

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 21:16

pssssst: You could go to the hairdresser....

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 21:17

[pippi whispers] and to a museum or a cinema in the morning or a spot of shopping

uups aren't we getting too carried away and forgetting about dd2 .

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 21:23

Oh yes, poor dd2
Btw, what are you going to do if you are doing the ma? Will you keep your childminder?

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 21:27

yes. I haven't been using it since last sept, eccept when dh was ill, but she'll gladly have dd2.
I have put lubowitch (sp?) on my movie list.

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 21:38

Pippi, google Holistic Hair and Beauty in West End Lane, and ask for Paolo. he is really good!!!

and try to have FUN tomorrow, think of all the lovely things you can do with dd2 without the pesky big sister stealing the limelight (always happens with us!)

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 21:44

thanks a million BS will look now.
btw nothing is happening tomorrow - dd1 won;t be going to school till next sept . Like I said I was overreacting (blame on pms).

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 21:49

ooops and i should probably be reading posts a lot more carefully

next september is a lifetime away! she'll be a different child by then.

I am really struggling with deciding which school to send dd1 to (in september 10, so talk about planning ahead). basically (non faith) state schools nearby are fairly crap, so most people (well, everyone I know really) sends their dcs to private schools. I am not convinced. Money is an issue and so are the politics of it There is an "oustanding" catholic school not too far where we may get her in if we send her to the nursery there, whcih i didn't like (the nursery, the school is really great), and then our local catholic school which has a pretty challenging (for want of a better word) intake in a pretty rough area, but the head is really very good, the school itself is lovely, and actually the atmosphere when i visited was quite appealing.

tough.

francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2009 21:50

My hairdresser is Paolo too . I also used to go to a hairdresser who is now doing ads for Pantene

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 21:50

BS is in the same road as my DH's hairdresser! Could it be the same one? Do you know if the owner has another one down the road just for men?

Penthesileia · 01/02/2009 21:58

My DH is currently resisting going to the hairdressers (despite looking a right old state) because "his" hairdresser has returned to Italy. I am wondering if he's planning on doing a Mary Magdalene...

I haven't had my hair cut since before DD was born! But, amazingly, I don't seem to have any split ends - I can't quite believe it.

Awwww, Pippi - I'm sure you and DD will get on fine in September.

Really Franca???? Which one? The one with mid-length wavy hair?? Wow. That's quite cool, actually!

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 21:58

mmmh West End Lane is quite long and there's several hairdressers... not sure tbh. Paolo only works there, he is not the owner (I think???)

Franca most hairdressers I have had in my life were called Antonio, not sure why!

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 22:00

this school business is a nightmare for lack of better words.
I really don;t know what to say. I vowed that in re to my children I'd do what feels right for me and them not what people tells me it's better. However it's not that easy asespecially because I trhen doubt myself on the basis that I wasn't brought up here.

I think that at primary level the main thing is for them to be in an environment that they like and that nurtures them. I'd like my dd to feel secure and happy. I want the best for my dd but I don't know what that means for her and I refuse to think of oxbridge at this stage. but then some other mums put 'the fear' in you that unless you kill someone for that place at that school your child will be a failure for life.

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 22:00

Penthe I have my hair cut twice a year- dd1 has much more frequent haircuts than me.

I am dreading going grey, because then you really have to take care of your hair... either dye it or have a perfect haircut... at the moment i just pluck the grey hairs out!

beforesunrise · 01/02/2009 22:02

exactly Pippi. yesterday i was having this conversation with a friend and she said something about private schools offering good networking opportunities. I actually laughed and said, surely you don't mean that you want your baby to start networking when he is 5 years old???!!! she was dead serious though...

PippiCalzelunghe · 01/02/2009 22:02

sorry for rubbish english

Penthesileia · 01/02/2009 22:04

I found one grey hair the day I finished my PhD (obviously the stress got to me!): I pulled it out, screeching with terror. It has never grown back, and since then I've not had any more...

But, yes - one has to do the older woman goes mysteriously blonde thing!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 01/02/2009 22:04

evening all, maga catch up again!

yes, it's all white here too, would be nice if it was too snowy for school so DS can stay home and play outside!

absence, I'm "scared" too, especially as a few weeks back we got this letter from school for each child, and DS's came printed in "yellow" paper, saying that his (quote) "attendance is 90-95% which is good. It will become worrying if the current rate of absence continues throughout the school year. It would be equivalent to 20 days absence a year. Your child is more likely to achieve his/her full potential if their attendance improves". Now, he's in reception, has been off for a week as he had a bad ear infection and a couple of other days with fever .

And I've always just used my hairdressers back home, partly because of prices (main thing was to get highlights), partly because they know my hair, but I since I cut my hair I really have to go more often. so I go to a place near work (they do London fashion week, so thought they must be good and it means I only have to go downstairs from my office), but had to try my local since ML, and wasn't too bad (a lot cheaper too), but highlights will be done at Easter in Italy, finally, after 18 months!

Put DD in bed in the cot tonight as the crib was a bit too "giusta"... she looks tiny again, but it means she's growing up
