Aka le Patatine

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 21:57

Surely I don't want to be missing the best, most important years of their lives? I'm evil .
Please, don't think I didn't enjoy being with my two when they were little. I did and I am actually very maternal and cuddly. But I also need some space. I'm not an excellent 24/7 sahm, that's all.

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 21:58

sorry it should have been a not a after the evil

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 21:59

Oh franca - don't be - I was teasing! I'm going to have a nanny or send DD to nursery when I go back to work, so I'm not judging you at all! Everyone needs space; and I don't think there's anyone - literally anyone - who does the 24/7 SAHM thing without going a little cuckoo sometimes.

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:00

X-post! I was worried!

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 22:03

Penthe, you are one of those egoistic career women .

No, I've never actually felt guilty for having sent the dc to nursery, really.

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:05

True, so true. I am a shameless, selfish career woman; if I could, I would sell my daughter to slavers to earn some extra money. Damn those PC woolly liberal EU human rights loving bastards for not allowing it.

hothell · 30/01/2009 22:06

we all need space. i would prefer a nanny.

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:08

We're trying to figure out the finances of it now; it looks like nearly all my salary (after tax, etc.) would go on it! But DH is still pretty adamant that he'd rather we had a nanny than send her to nursery... So, we'll see.

hothell · 30/01/2009 22:09

how old is your dd penthe, sorry cannot remember..

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:10

Very nearly 8 months. She'll be 15 months when I go back to work full time.

hothell · 30/01/2009 22:13

you have taken a big break then...

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:16

Yes - 1 year maternity leave; and when my ML runs out, it's basically exam/marking term so I won't have to go into the office full time. Then it's the "vacation" term, when I should be researching, which obviously I will be not skiving and looking after DD. Then it's back to full time teaching in the autumn.

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 22:18

Lol Lol at blaming the EU .
I suppose Penthe that a nanny is more flexible. Plus the UK have a great tradition of nannies (thinks of Mary Poppins . Here (at least in Milan) it's the contrary, nurseries are usually preferable to nannies... with this mindset I went for nurseries, ignoring they are so controversial in the UK.

PippiCalzelunghe · 30/01/2009 22:19

no I sing freeeeedom the first few months. maybe I like it when hey want to do thnigs because so do I. anyway prob is different with girls but my dd1 is happy to stay home and play etc.

PippiCalzelunghe · 30/01/2009 22:23

not my style... I don't think he likes it either.

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:23

Funny thing, DD was a little accident gift from God... No planning at all...

Did you see There Will Be Blood? Or No Country for Old Men? Really enjoyed those.

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:24

Shit - have I missed Grand Designs?

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 22:25

Did you watch Il divo? Romanzo criminale? La ragazza del fiume? The lives of others?
I have also recently watched the best, feel good, teenage flick "10 things I hate about you" with lovely Heath Ledger.

hothell · 30/01/2009 22:27

Heath Ledger is a waste of space.

hothell · 30/01/2009 22:27

was

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:27

Yes, Lives of Others v. good.

Old films: I recently bought All About Eve to watch again; Sunset Boulevard is fab, as is Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.

DH & I were watching Il vangelo secondo Matteo this evening too.

Penthesileia · 30/01/2009 22:28

Easy now, franca - go easy on her!

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 22:28

Was she? How lovely . You sound so in love with your dd Penthe.
