Will I havetobuy a newkeyboard?

My keyboard is recoveringfrom an Orange juicespill lastweekend. Onlythe spacebar seemstobe affected. It sticks andonlyworks if I really bash it. so it looks like I am writing in code. Can this be fixed....by me? by a store.....or will I haveto buy a new keyboard...its an iMac keyboard. Maybe it will loosen up with use?

Any ideas?

this happens to me all the time as i'm such a scumbag. You probably just need to clean it. On most keyboards you can just prise off the spacebar with a knife - then clean the gunk out (you may need to use alcohol - proper cleaning alcohol is good, so is cheap vodka) and put it back. It can be a bit fiddle, but if it comes off easily you will be able to do it. If it doesn't come off easily, then you may have an awkward keyboard, in which case you'll just have to wait and see.

If you're going to bin it anyway - a last ditch attempt is to bung it in the dishwasher or wash it in the sink... as long as you give it plenty of time to dry out before you plug it back in again, the electrics should be fine. However, I only recommend this if the only other option is to chuck it and replace it! (i.e. you haven't lost anything if you do damage the keyboard as a result!).

Have rescued one from a wine spillage by washing it - though its life was only extended for a few months. I understand that the better quality keyboards (i.e. IBM and makes like that) can take quite a bit of abuse in this way before dying.

Thanks for the replies.The dishwasher sounds a tad drastic,andIhaven'tgotone....wish I had!! DP doesn't DO washing up....so he is relegatedto once a week hoovering....fair? I think not. When he does do washing up. I am sure he breaksthings on purpose.

I'm a scumbag too, perhaps I should demand he do the dusting once a week too!

All theother keys work, I'm hoping thatthe more I bash the spacebar, the more productiveitwill become. If it doesn't then....I will dismember it and probably end up buying a new one!

Sugary and acidic spills are the worst type for electrical equipment, they eat into the components causing irrepairable damage. If you can get the keyboard apart to clean it then it is worth a try but you might find that in time you need to replace it anyway.

If you had cleaned it out by running it under the tap straight away you'd have been fine but as it is I'd recommend getting a new one.
