Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
Brangelina · 22/01/2009 13:12

Thanks to the bloody Guardian my Amazon trolley is now 3 pages long. I'm not getting them sent out here though.

monkeysmama · 22/01/2009 13:13

I have noticed the money thing! Italians seem to like the little money tray more than the English .

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/01/2009 13:15

MM, she's 21 wks (I think ). I should go back beginning of March, 2 days before my b-day, but will take the whole lot, so I shoudl go back 31 Aug, but will stretch for a few days til school starts taking some A/L so would start 2 days before her first b-day. DP's going to see if he can work from home a couple of days a week, so we can share childcare, as it'd be so expensive having 2 looked after, at least for 6 months or so (DS went to nursery 2 mornings a week when he was 18 mo, but then DP had been a SAHD and then worked shifts so he'd be home when I was in Vicoria). It's just so hard to find s.one you trust... we had settling period at one nursery to begin with and it was horrendous (I was there for 2 hours and noone realised this poor boy had his nappy full and it just stank, another one had a bad cold and noone wiped his nose), so I suggest you "try before you buy"

Rosa · 22/01/2009 13:50

Hello,Playdate is this pm she has gone to bed early as she was up at 6 - Papa has gone skiing and he managed to wake her up !
So yesterday DH said voi andare in terra ferma ?- Fed minirosa and i was off . Thing is I raced round instead of just having a nice me shop so came back exhausted with nothing for me ( apart from a Big American cheese pizza) and lots of stuff for the dds !!! I even bought a pair of BARBIE ( I HATE barbie) trainers that are silver and pink sparkles with flowers They were Eu9 reduced from 30 how could I refuse them ????
I said to dh can I go again But next time I want to go slowly !
Minirosa had a bottle mid afternoon and slept like a log afterwards for 1.5 hrs. MIL on hearing said you should give her one piu spesso xche ovviamente lei ha bisogno - Dh has given up defending me and bf now with her fgs minirosa is putting on approx 160 g a week so all that chocolate I am eating is working
My landsend coat arrived today - its boring and practical but will do I think the weather needs to get colder for me to really see if it works. DH phoned pistes closed its snowing too hard !!!!!!!!!
Are you still without your second parcel Brange - Try puuting the next one in DP name and see what happens. I have never had problem witH Amazon they seal the packages with superglue .

Sputnik · 22/01/2009 15:02

I've been waiting ages for parcels from UK too, normally I don't have problems. Posties all have the flu maybe?

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2009 15:05

Oh dear Brange, are you still waiting for your amazon parcel? I feel guilty now, as I insisted you should trust it ... I got my last order in December and my wish list is already 1 km long.

Pippi, I think I do 5 washings a week

MM, I think one of the most important things you have to look for when choosing a nursery is if they offer settling in sessions. In Italy under 3s usually have 2 or 3 weeks of settling in sessions. I think they are very important: first for the child to get used to the new environment, second for the parent to feel the "atmosfera".
Have a good we and good luck with the weather (very sunny here, but cold today)

Lety, ciao, parla pure in italiano. Da quanto vivi a londra? cosa ci fai li'???

OP posts:
Brangelina · 22/01/2009 15:53

Yes I am still waiting for that parcel (grumble grumble). I'm kicking myself for trusting it would arrive. I got lulled into a false sense of security by the fact other parcels from the UK had indeed arrived, albeit tampered with. Lol Franca, yes it's all your fault [virtual testata]. I've decided to write to Altro Consumo about the Poste, maybe they'll get on their case and find my parcel. Let's hope it is the flu and not a case of kleptomania hey...

Does anyone know if I'd be able to claim anything back from the credit card if it doesn't arrive? I'm feeling a bit guilty as it was the "family" card and not my own.

I'm very impressed by Minirosa's weight gain Rosa! it must be your Cornish milk.

Bucharest · 22/01/2009 16:02

Hello everyone!

Amazon usually refund if the parcels don't arrive...at least the one the poste lost of mine was refunded! My booklist is now miles long, too, thanks to the Guardian and I'd have to charter a plane to get them all over here!- Brange- are you doing a daily running total? I'm up to 76, have suffered over last few days thanks to bloody science and fantasy- so not me.......

You're all very lucky having nursery settling in periods....no such thing down here, oh no! (although I cried on first day, Bucharestina didn't.....)

We are doing the elementare iscrizione and to my surprise I've become VIP mummy in dd's class as my friend happens to be the friend of the teacher all the mummies want their PFBs to go with at the elementare, so they're all sucking up in very sucky fashion so I can get them "raccomandate" Very funny, me having that kind of power......

Can anyone tell me which jabs I need to have redone this year? I looked on the sanita website, is the trivalente thingy the MMR? Is the other one polio that has to be redone before elementare? Last time dd had any jabs, (meningitis and ????? (aargh bad mummy, can't even remember)) we did them in the UK, the last she had here was MMR and varicella......we were supposed to go back for polio and the old biddy at the ospedaletto said the law had changed and we had to do it before elementare, which is like now. I s'pose I'm going to have to go and ask. Che stress.

Are any of you watching GF? (sorry to lower tone.....)

Am going to work my way backwards through rest of thread now and catch up with you all!

Bucharest · 22/01/2009 16:13

Ciao Lety, io parlo bene ma scrivo in maniera orrenda l'italano! Io sono inglese in Puglia....

Monkeysmama- blimeyheck, can't believe how many of that booklist you've read! I really want to get cracking on it now!

Brangelina · 22/01/2009 16:16

Not watching GF, but an avid Xfactor fan. Are you watching that?

Don't know about jabs, mine's had the esavalente (usual obligatory ones) and not the trivalente (MMR) and I was told I didn't need to go back until she was 5 and a half. Don't know anything about polio, I did ask but they told me it was no longer obligatory and would have to wait anyway. Here in Monza we get sent a letter with an appointment, although when in Milan I only found out by going to the consultorio. Maybe they send letters where you are? Can you not ring your local consultorio? They're usually very helpful.

That is good news re the amazon things. I feel less guilty now. I only have 47 books in my trolley and the total is scary. Let's hope the euro stays srong hey.

Don't you think it weird all these threads about Italian boys names? I mean, if you're surname's Throckmorton and the nearest you've been to a pizza is Pizza Hut Luca's going to sound pretty silly, no? Having said that I wanted (but didn't get) at least one English name for DD so I suppose I'm no better. Mind you, English names with an Italian surname dont sound silly in the same way...

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2009 16:20

Hi Bucharest, good to see you!
Don't they really have inserimento there? They are very ott with it in Milan, 3 weeks in nido, 1-2 weeks for the first year of materna !

I'm all confused by the whole injections thing as well, as the dc had everything done in the UK until we came here last yr.
Yes, trivalente is mmr,and I think the second lot is done when they are around 5 here. Together with the richiamo of antipolio etc. Last year they had to do the epatite injection, as it wasn't offered in the uk, while it's obbligatoria here.
Anyway, I'd ask the paed or consultorio, if you have one nearby. Have you got the red book, the one where all injections are registered in the UK?

I don't watch the GF, as I try to boycott realities, though I lapsed this winter, getting hooked on L'isola dei famosi . I remember watching bits of the first series of Big Brother in the UK, and it really get on my nerves. And I will admit, that I used to watch Mai dire grande fratello in 2002 (we were in italy for one yr then) and PMSLing at Mediomen.

I quite like Luca pronounced by an English, possibly because it reminds me of the delectable (is this the right word?) Dr Luca Kovac in ER.

OP posts:
Bucharest · 22/01/2009 16:24

I am lolling at the boys' names, yes...they are just wrong a lot of them.....One in particular, which I won't mention but rhymes with pumpkin if you do a translation.....is just mindboggling wrong. It's like calling an English child Stockport. Why would you?

(well, maybe not Stockport, but you get my drift)

There is a child near here called Britney Mastrapasqua which kills me.....

Dd has English name (but with an equal sounding but differently spelled Italian equivalent IYSWIM) and totally weirdly another little girl with the same English name (tho they are Tranesi through and through) started this year....the teacher said she never thought she'd have to distinguish between the 2 by surnames....

Hmm, I shall have to brave the ospedaletto (where we have our jabs I think) We don't get letters, in the office they have these tiny little cards that the old lady (who has obviously worked there since the year dot) writes on in pencil.....

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2009 16:27

I can't work out what the name is

and lol at britney mastrapasqua!!!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 22/01/2009 16:28

Yes, I saw that. Mind you, there is a Brooklyn so who's to stop people pillagiing Italian city names. Pordenone Smith anyone?

I live the Britney Mastrapasqua, the surname is just so eloquent. We have a Jhonny (yes, with the H in the wrong place!) Spaccasomething, can't remember the last bit.

Bucharest · 22/01/2009 16:39

Is it Spaccapietra? I know a lawyer called that....

I watched UK X-Factor (and cried weekly) but not the Italian one...(am only allowed 1 reality at a time or dp combusts.....)

Oh Dr Luka- yes please, come to Mummy......(wish he'd pop in for his dinner!)

Franca- that's useful about the jabs- so sounds like I need to redo MMR/polio and possibly hepatite then....(don't remember anything about that...) Of course they're all going bonkers down here for their flu jabs....(when really they love a dose of flu and are all convinced they get it monthly anyway.)

I've just remembered it's NOT Britney MP- it's even better, it's WHITNEY lolol.

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2009 16:43

must look at that thread and have a laugh! anyway considering that Jade Jagger's daughter is called Assisi ...

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2009 16:44

PS: I've resigned!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/01/2009 16:52

LOL at Pordenone Smith!!!
off to check those threads!

a girl in my village was called Deborah, with the H and her parents (I mean, they mainly spoke dailect!!) called her deboraHH, like a bigh breath after the A....

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/01/2009 16:53

so how do you feel pippi?

Penthesileia · 22/01/2009 16:55

Blimey, the thread's moved on! It's been such a long time since I posted, that I will just say I hope everyone is ok, and Ciao! to Lety and Monkeysmama!

Pippi! Wow - what was your job?

My DD is sick with a horrible cold; caught (again) from DH. He is a plague monster.

Sputnik · 22/01/2009 16:59

Hi Bucharest, don't you have a pediatra you can ask?

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2009 17:13

housing penthe. fell okay actually. having gone there today it is clear it was undoable. so okay. will let you know.

my name as some of you know is spelled the english way rather than the italian way. no english connections. although I got teased at school a bit (with similar pronounc than deboraHHH) I never questioned it and`loved it through and through. the italian version looks 'naked' to me. must put this on other thread I guess.

Bucharest · 22/01/2009 17:20

Our paediatra hates mothers just ever so slightly more than she hates her patients....lol....Thank goodness we hardly ever need her! Our family doctor on the other hand is wonderful, will insist on coming out to the house and everything....

Bucharest · 22/01/2009 17:21

Meant to say as well, I use book depository now mainly instead of Amazon as it's free delivery!
