Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 22:07

(I said obviously, but you might not know yet that my ds can be "monotematico" and quite - ahem -intense when his interests are concerned. We went to tintagel, he developed a passion for knights. He saw Balto, he became an expert of husky dogs and the north pole. etc etc etc)

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 22:21

I love the name Oscar! I'll tell ds, he'll be impressed.
Off to bed, night

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 22:22

DS knows every car from cars (I do too now ), and really got into Candy and kept on asking why that girl was so nasty (irisa), I know what you mean about lady Oscar (he's only seen the first few episodes so far so not really violent yet), but the cartoons I see on Italia 1 sometimes are soooooooo violent!! all these monsters etc! saying that, we used to watch L'uomo tigre, Damon e I cavalieri dello Zodiaco...

and chose the French Revolution for my Esami di 5a elementare because of Lady Oscar, so it was good for something!

monkeysmama · 19/01/2009 22:25

Yes, perhaps I've forgotten quite how crap Italian tv is. Downloading some kids tv is a good idea. Am planning to stock up on dvds for dd next time we're in Italy as my search for somewhere to buy them here's been unfruitful.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 22:28

MM - she'll be singing "heidy, heidy, le caprette ti fanno ciao!" in no time!

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 22:28

Lol!
So you are younger than me, if you watched the Cavalieri dello zodiaco (stern). My db - 5 yrs younger than me - was hooked on ken il guerriero.
Yes, those progs were quite violent. I watched gundam, goldrake, gig, etc etc etc. Still, no one worried about us, in the 70s

really must go now. A domani ciao!

monkeysmama · 19/01/2009 22:28

franca your ds sounds great !

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 22:29

MM, if I remember well, Pippi has got good website from where you can get the programs. She is the one in the know. Or try emule?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 22:31

Ta MM . He can be a bit high maintenance, but he is overall lovely

Good night my dears

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 22:31

my brother loooooved Ken! oh, how can I forget Sampei! you must have watched that though!

oh, no DD's awake !!

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/01/2009 23:06

Yes Yes I am in the know... I've got them all (pippi heidi lady oscar candy remy paul and mina) before I even had dc !
just 1/2 an hour ago my italian BF and I where singing 'OHH lady lady lady oscar tutti fanno festa quando ci sei tuuuuu'.
I can send you the email of the person who sells them. I'm sure you can download them for free but I haven't got the time, the patience and surely I'd catch a virus which will destroy my laptop, so I'd rather pay.

was thinking seriously to get satellite for italian tv. then I went home last week and decided NO WAY! it's truly crap, even for children.

who remembers sazuke? e ben e bero (scary!)

hot I'm impressed...I never missed my dc in the night !
night night.

monkeysmama · 20/01/2009 09:52

Pippi I'd be really grateful for the email address if you don't mind and perhaps some suggestions of what to get for an 8 month old LO. I didn't grow up in Italy so my baby stage tv heros were all English!

francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2009 10:12

MM there aren't many original italian programs for children, and certainly not for very small ones. Your best bet is to get Pimpa's dvds (they are selling them at the edicola at the moment), my dc still enjoy pimpa. Otherwise, we get UK/American progs translated in Italian, things like Teletubbies or Baby Einstein, but I boycotted those when the dc were young.
I honestly don't have a clue of what's on for children on Italian terrestrial tv, as I try not to show it to the dc, too much advertising, and just silly things. But, I can get you a Pimpa dvd if you like and send it over to you.
Pimpa

Barnapapa' also excellent for littlies

OP posts:
monkeysmama · 20/01/2009 10:54

Franca that would be brilliant. I've heard of Pimpa before. Barnapapa' - what a blast from the past! We had him too but I can't remember his name. Shall I email you my address and you can let me know how to pay you. That would be fantastic!

francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2009 10:58

I think Barbapapa's is actually French, but it is fantastic for little ones, much better than teletubbies (imho).
We could swap. A Pimpa dvd for a copy of Living Etc???
Have you got CAT? Mine has expired.

OP posts:
monkeysmama · 20/01/2009 11:02

Ok - it's a deal! I haven't got CAT....

PippiCalzelunghe · 20/01/2009 11:52

franca's suggestions are great! I was going to ask you to send me one too but will buy pimpa's dvd myself when I go to italy for dd2's birthday. dd1 loves pimpa's books as well.

rosa BTW I'm going to friuli on the 6th of march. will def try to plan a trip to venice then.

PippiCalzelunghe · 20/01/2009 11:52

MM will post email when I find it. I think I've delete it but she sends reminders to me all the time.

Rosa · 20/01/2009 12:25

Emule is a good one but not for use in the Uk. Any you need let me know as we have quite a collection. Sorry not a Pimpa fan here I just can't get it !!
Pippi great for March its dd2 birthday on the 5th ..Think we will be shelving the big party as done in the past unless things improve ! The rain has not hit here in force but a sirocco has its about 10 degrees outside and windy !

francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2009 12:26

MM have you got an email address you are happy to post? I'll email you asap!
Pippi, I'm more than happy to swap stuff if you need. I think there's anew pimpa dvd out every week at the edicola. Not sure how much it is. Usually they seduce you with a 4.90 euro first exit, then it's 9.90...

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2009 12:27

I got literally soaked this morning on the school run. And it's also cold. WHY?????

OP posts:
Rosa · 20/01/2009 13:14

We do it cos we are mad ! I was pushing the pram into the wind with dd on the pedanetta keeping her head below the wind it was hard work. I was very thankful it was not raining or we would have been soaked as no point in using a brolly in this weather...I should have hung the washing out it woukd have dried!
I want Cake - proper sponge cake but I don't have any eggs to make one !

Brangelina · 20/01/2009 14:52

Wow, what a lot of chat going on while I was watching XFactor.

Gio, sorry to swan off and leave with no explanation, but I had to get DD then went to the gym then there was XF. Anyway, as Rosa mentioned I would find a good commercialista who will be able to explain all the ins and outs. Do you have an accountant in the UK? He/She should be able to explain equally well as it's EU law, although it might be handy to have someone who's aware of loopholes in Italian law. I do know it is possible as someone who worked with me some time ago got "paid" from Luxembourg, thus paying their taxes at something ridiculous like 11%, yet he was physically working in Italy. Do you have a UK business address? What address do you put on your invoices? If it's a UK address and all money goes into a UK bank account you should be OK.

For the school you'll be asked to provide a letter from your employer stating your hours. I did my own, on company headed paper, and signed it myself. I don't know if the company address has to be per forza italiano.

My amazon parcel still hasn't arrived. I've looked on the website but have to wait 3 days before lodging a complaint. Bloddy Poste Italiane. I was contemplating going to the police per fare una denuncia per furto contro le Poste. Do you think that'll go down well? Also one against the dogana/poste for discrimination because they're only opening my parcels, no doubt because of my foreign name. I'm really quite pissed off, there's £50 of books in the missing parcel. I should have know better than to get it sent to Italy.

I don't much like Pimpa either, the only Italian DVD we have here is Topogigio as it's DP's fave. Barbapapà too, although I'm a bit sad at watching it in Italian but there's no language option on the DVD. I can't believe any of you were thinking of spending money on a satellite dish to watch Italian TV. I find it painful enough having to part with money for the canone.

Brangelina · 20/01/2009 14:54

I'm getting pissed off with this rain, my hair is permanently frizzy and I can't wear my lovely new boots.

Rosa, can you not make scones? I seem to remember that my school recipe didn't require eggs. The ones with eggs were rock cakes iirc.

Brangelina · 20/01/2009 15:07

Ugh! DP cooked a crab last night (one of his "bargains") and it still stinks like a fish factory in here. I've opened windows, burnt incense and even sprayed MIL's nasty cheap perfume but to no avail. I probably smell like a tuna farm as well! Will this stench never leave us?
