Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 20:11

Nah, I wouldn't worry about that Gio.
I love the name emily and the italian version. Very sweet.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 20:13

And lol at even remotely thinking they might be "efficient"

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 20:28

Actually it should have been thinking they could be remotely efficient??? Oh my gosh I have doubts! What is the right sentence?

OP posts:
gio71 · 19/01/2009 20:41

mmm now am not sure. The first looked fine to me but think is 2nd???
Now watching W on LA7, I know its a film but for the millionth time I ask myself HOW did Bush become president??????????

Sputnik · 19/01/2009 20:47

Erm, he cheated!
I expect you know that really.
Anyway, we can put all that behind us from tomorrow, yippee!

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 20:47

I didn't know W is on la7! He didn't even win the elections first time round! (how he's actually been re elected is even more puzzling)

OP posts:
gio71 · 19/01/2009 20:51

I know I am just looking at his younger years and thinking he has always truly been a moron so how the hell did he get to the point of running???
Anyway you are right Sputnik, hurrah for tomorrow and I am planning on being glued to the telly all day!

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 20:56

Maybe he just wanted to carry on the family business Anyway, I love the word moron, suits him perfectly.

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 21:07

crostoli is my regions's "chiacchere"... mmmm, would have been nice going for half term, as I'd love DCs to see and live carnevale...

so franca, what did you cook in the end?

can't watch La7 here, only get rai and mediaset, plus weird regional and arab channels... and they crypt most of the stuff I want to watch anyway...

hothell · 19/01/2009 21:13

Glued to the telly here tomorrow too, what a fantastic day, cannot wait. I do worry though that they might try to murder him, me and my dark thoughts.
Have made the stupid mistake of inviting for drinks and snacks new friends who are very good cooks, she used to be a chef, and is French, sob. We are terrible cooks, what sort of snacks should i make for them? Because I am Italian they also seem to have high expectations, feel like withdrawing the offer Luckily didn't invite them for dinner. Bollocks, am going to google and try and find somethng.
Gio, I understand your predicament, and it seems like a minefield!
How do I see your profiles?

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 21:20

you click on our names

Have started paula fox book, hot

sunflower, we had a very uninspiring dinner. I wanted to make a frittata with porri, but only had 2 eggs We had pasta al pesto and salad. And then I rushed ds to do his homework and forgot to give the dc fruit.

Hot, don't know, make a torta salata? Buy the pastry in sainsbos.
Buy 2 leeks, bacon bits and 1 yellow pepper. And ricotta if you want.
Saute the leeks and the finely chopped peppers/fry the bacon in another pan.
Mix the veggies, bacon, 1 egg and the ricotta. salt pepper. Chopped mint if you want.
Put the pastry in an oven trey. Add the mix. In the oven for 30 mins?
Buy posh olives.

Another easy peasy thing. Buy smoked trout. Puree trout with philadelphia, pepper and lemon juice. Spread on toast.

Big plate of antipasti italiana - cold cuts olives , posh grissini get some puff pastry and do salatini. Make a cocktail - bellini or something similar !
Must go to bed
Erm whats happening domani ????

gio71 · 19/01/2009 21:28

mmm Franca they both sound lovely, may try them myself tomorrow (stomach rumbles)
Hot what about making a load of fresh tzatziki and serving with crudites to dip? Or you could grill aubergine slices and then guests can add dollop of tzatziki and make involtini. Finely grate a cucumber and sprinkle with salt and live in a sieve to drain excess water for half hour. Then mix with a pot of Total greek yougurt and some crushed garlic. Add pepper. Lush and so easy.

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 21:34

Yes! I love tzatziki!!!
And of course hummous is always a life saver

Rosa, dunno!!!

I am looking forward to Obama's day tomorrow too but like Hothell am slightly worried about what might happen to him. The US is full of lunatics - and morons !

Anyone UK based have Italian tv? What would I need to do to get it? I've been thinking about it for ages but never got round to doing anything about it.

Cheese & black pepper buttons are really quick & tasty.

gio71 · 19/01/2009 21:42

mmm they look nice as well. am such a pig! may have to go and raid fridge!

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 21:45

Yes, I share the same fear.

I don't know about watching Italian TV from the UK. Are you sure you want Italian tv ? It's crap, apart bits of Rai3 and bits of la7. Dh promised he'd find a way to watch UK tv from Italy, and hasn't got round doing it yet ( a friend gave him the number of a good antennista 6 months ago ).

Oooooooh they look yummie. I miss the guardian.

hothell · 19/01/2009 21:47

0h, thank you!!!! That was quick, you were basically all at the computer.
We are thnking of getting italian telly, but don't know, everybody seems to say how crappy it is anyway. Would be nice for dcs, but i suppose they will want to watch what their friends watch! Not sure what we are meant to do. Wonder if pippi has it, but i doubt it.
Franca, what do you thnk of the book then? Quite depressive reading, I really like that, it makes me feel that it is ok to feel apprehensive all the time, lol. Off to bed too after dd's dream feed, I miss her if i don't see her at night.

gio71 · 19/01/2009 21:49

the security looks incredibly high tomorrow, lets hope it works.
We had Italian telly in the UK, had the hugest satellite dish EVER, was called Hotbird which sounds very like dodgy porn to me but just gets you Berlusca's dancing girls instead

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 21:55

and we get back to nipple tassels again !!!

Hot, you could download some children programs in Italian. Vintage stuff, like heidi, pippi and goldrake.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 21:56

Hot, have only just started it. I'm big on depressing. Have been reading Richard Yates lately, so I'm ok with deeply depressing

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 21:57

MM - it is crap, but I like watching la prova del cuoco and sometimes I put cartoni on for DS, so at least he hears some italian... I just got a receiver from italy and a satellite dish, you need to get s.one to poit it properly though. you can also get a receiver from here - got a "travel" one from lidl for £50 few years ago when ours was getting fixed and it worked perfectly too

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 21:59

franca - DS has watched the first Candy Candy film in episodes over xmas on youtube... and as he's called Oscar, he likes Lady Oscar, especially the old song...

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 22:04

Sunflower, last spring they sold Lady Oscar dvds at the newsagent, and I obviously had to buy the first. Ds got addicted so I bought the ones that followed, until the summer holidays. We are now missing 10 dvds I think. But I thought they were a bit too violent at the end and he is still too young. Obviously, he developed curiosity of the french revolution and he is now acquainted with the main events.

2 yrs ago i watched the first episode of candy on youtube, in japanese
