Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
Rosa · 19/01/2009 14:41

I need a mantellina thing as well as dd!! As I have to do nursery run (tom and wed and rain forecast and it is a toss up which child gets wet !!) DD will walk under brolly but over the bridge she gets soaked as she can't hold upright ! I am heaving the pram . Not sure where to buy one in Venice itself have tried the boat suppliers and some of teh 'outdoor clothing shops' no joy will have to send Dh to Decathlon but thats not in time for domani as its forecast bad here as well !!

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 14:41

that's astute! Is it tender? I find that mine spezzini are never as tender as I'd like. My mum tells me to use a pentola a pressione. I'm scared by pentole a pressione!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 19/01/2009 14:42

I make porrige with apples and raisins, it's good.
DH adds tahini, which really is weird.

Nobody has a nice totani recipe then?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 14:47

sputnik, sorry no, I just loved them deep fried...

franca, I surprised myself, very tender indeed. I brased it in the pot with a little oil and garlic, then put stock in and cooked on low heat for probably a couple of hours, then the following day (had this done night before as I know I never have the time in the morning) I added the veg and banged it in the oven, but I think next time I'll just put in the oven straight after adding the stock...

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 14:49

totani ripieni al sugo???

OP posts:
Brangelina · 19/01/2009 14:49

Lol Rosa, so no polenta con osei (sp?) for you then? I must admit I'm not much keen on polenta myself but DD absolutely loves the stuff, as she does porridge. She's a real stodge princess though, all risotto, pasta, polenta, pizza crusts, stodgy pastry, all heavy stuff.

Am very at 12hr sleeps. DD has never managed 12 hours.

Weather is shite here too. I can't wear my new boots I bought in the sale, first because of the snow and now because they might get ruined by the rain. I now have far too many shoes, it's official.

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 14:50

Very interesting sunflower. I usually make spezzatino with sugo and peas. mmmmmm will try it out

OP posts:
Brangelina · 19/01/2009 14:52

DP makes totani in umido, with soffritto, white wine, tomato and peas. I have no idea whether it's any good as I don't eat fish, so he wolfs it down by himself.

monkeysmama · 19/01/2009 14:56

Ciao

Thanks for all the welcome messages and nice comments about my dd (Stella)

DD has porridge for breakfast every morning almost - quick, filling, cheap and hot . They do one in a little packet you pop some milk with and put in the microwave for 2.5 minutes. Helpful seeing as dd's going through a clingy period particuarly in the mornings & I can do it all with one hand.

I am at our food shopping bills. We used to get it delivered & a weekly organic box delivered too but it'd go off before we'd have time to eat it and I never worked out what to cook with swedes, turnips and the like every week. Our weekly shop in Sainsbury last week was almost £200 . Food is important to me though and we eat well every night....

One of the things I hate about the UK is this horrible grey weather - pouring down here. Dd and I have colds again so have spent day so far in bed reading books, sleeping & eating chocolates (me - dd is only 8 months). Mmmm.

Sputnik · 19/01/2009 15:16

MM, rest assured it is grey and raining here too today. I am sitting in a cloud atm.
Come to think of it I did stuff totani once.

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 16:06

monkeysmama, I spend lots of money on food shopping as well!!! I also always seem to need something from the shops nearly every day .

As for the weather... it's raining again here! I'm finding this winter really hard to cope with. I want a pair of sheepskin boots.

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 16:10

forgot mum makes them in umindo like Bran's DP, but basically without the peas... we spend too much too, well, not if I got the chance to cook, but with DD it's a rare treat! I buy all these vegetable, but they always end up in the composter . But I'm hoping DD's going to start letting me do things soon... (well, just managed to bake a cake yesterday and I'm now on my second slice with a cup of tea.. not sure there'll be any left by tonight....

lovely name btw MM, I liked it for DD (as same in italian and english) but then my mum got a little dog and my niece decided to call her Stella [angy]

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 16:49

Stella is a lovely name!

I have 1 hr to think about dinner and don't have a clue!!!

OP posts:
Rosa · 19/01/2009 16:51

I do spezzatino in the pentola a pressione as 2 hrs in the oven and electric bills just scares me. Generally it is quite tender. My pasticcio di pesce was a bit pesante but at least dd ate it ( well 4 mthfuls!)
Monkey we have all just been through colds and I doubt they will be the last this winter.
It is warmer here but its grey and horrible. DD wanted to go to the shop and buy coriandoli.....so we start with the bloomin stuff in coats and jackets and it always works its way into the house no matter how much I shake them out.
New boots I need some as mine will not do the winter out esp if we carry on like this but Eu100 I don't call much of a sale bargain !

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 16:55

ooooohhh, coriandoli, e crosstoli, e frittelle, e castagnole.... now I am homesick....

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 16:56

mmmm pasticcio di pesce sounds intriguing as well.
I'll make a frittata for tonight and have some pesto left to make pasta with.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 16:57

frittelle. ho fame!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 19/01/2009 17:11

coriandoli e stelle filanti frappe e strufoli ... make me really homesick... carnevale is truly one serious thing I miss and hope to go to italy one year with the dc to let them experience it.

brang someone opened one package as well, stole a belt and added a letter from (I guess) some othjer opened parcel. Mum complained but... ti deaf ears methink.

at minirosa 3 months. pls send us pics. (rosa might go to ikea this week, will let you know).

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/01/2009 17:14

MM your daughter is truly gorgeous! lovely name too, was one we did consider as well for dd2... not sure why it wasn't picked.

monkeysmama · 19/01/2009 17:42

You ladies are lovely!

I love her name-we needed something that fitted both languages & our strong cockney families' accents. Stella's an old London name and was my child minder too so it has nice memories for me. It also gives me an excuse to buy star everything! Rosa, what name did you go with if you don't mine of asking.

gio71 · 19/01/2009 19:46

yes she is beautiful MM, just had a nose
Brange I had no idea I could get away with being registered for work here and still pay tax mainly in UK?? Oh this is a minefield! I thought it was a case of had to spend the time in the UK (180 days or something). I do have a codice fiscale, would that be sufficient? What would I need to do, register, then declare I work but carry on paying tax as I do now? Sorry for all the questions, it's just that you are the first person to give me a glimmer of hope I can do this!I would much rather be all legal and above board if poss but want to avoid moving everything to here! Also as I said my company is UK based, I work in the UK market, I get paid in sterling (although wish I wasnt at the moment!!)and my cousin does my accounts in UK so is so easy!
Forecast sun on thurs then crappy again! Am going to UK in Feb, really want some sun before to set me up for Feb in UK

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 19:48

I think in your case Gio, you can carry on paying your taxes in the UK. I think dh pays taxes in the UK and in Italy

OP posts:
Rosa · 19/01/2009 19:56

GIo I think you need a really friendly commercialista who knows European law and all the loop holes.
I worked for a UK company and was paid in the Uk but I actually practiced it in Italy so I had to pay here however hit a wall with NI and pension contributions as they are divided different in the Uk to Italy.
As you are ' independant' and freelance there must be a way round it. Can you ask round I found a great person here it only cost me Eu150 and a couple of translations
Minirosa is Emily ..but already she is Emmie. I will take more pics and post but I keep missing her smiles !!!!
Fritelle - they do them with nutella in here I do not like nutella but fresh 10 secs in the microwave they are wicked.
I used to make gallani ( The flat crispy things as diff names in diff regions) ..in my youth and before children

francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2009 20:02

are gallani the chiacchere? yum... and the frittelle with nutella! My grandmother used to make tortelli for carnevale....

Today, I had a free patch test for depilazione with laser. It hurt. Still hurting. I think I'll stick to a life slavery to ceretta.

OP posts:
gio71 · 19/01/2009 20:03

Think you are right Rosa re commercialista. Oh well, will pay for this year in uk and then maybe swop for next year. Am also thinking that if I put down on the form for school that I work from home SURELY the administration system isn't so efficient that that will flag up a tax question elsewhere??
Emily is a lovely name Rosa, one of my favourites.
Anyone watching the Oliver Stone interview on LA7 and think he looks stoned out of his head??
