Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
Brangelina · 14/01/2009 12:34

Lord knows. Forever if he's spotted by an swimming team scout.

Hmm, 5 days has apssed. I'm starting to get apprehensive about my mammoth order.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 14/01/2009 12:58

yes, didn't need the translation for DS 4 yrs ago though... will ring them to find out (not in the best of moods after buiders finally came and the job now can't be done..)

DB shares custody of my niece, and luckily they lived at my parents, though in a self contained flat, but my niece probably spends most of the time with my mum as they both work. But exSIL is very nice and understanding, so didn't claim all that her lawyer suggested!

I was expecting that reaction from italians about real nappies, but only got it from my enlgish friend (looked at me as if I was mad and changed swiftly the subject). I had only mentioned it to one italian friend though, who was quite interested, and then found out that other pg friend asked us for Bambino Mio as a present, as other mums on her antenatal group were using them. apparently there are some incentives around our area as well. and finally found the "perfect" one for us so need to sell the millions I've managed to accumulate in the last 6 months... did you get them in the UK? I noticed that there are more and more italian sites selling them in the last 6 months.

Franca, which ones would you like?

Brangelina · 14/01/2009 13:13

I got them off ebay when I was expecting - a brand new set for 60 euros. I should have waited and tried a few first though, as lovely as they were they weren't the right ones for DD - she had skinny legs and was a heavy wetter. I then discovered Bamboozles but it was too late, DD was nearly potty trained (I was very sad not to have any more nappies to wash and watch dry in the sun - yes, I need to get a life). Here they sell Popolini in the health food shop but I tried them and don't rate them very much. I need to sell mine too, but where?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 14/01/2009 13:26

don't know about italy, though I see more and more regions start giving incentives. maybe have a look at MN-like sites... you could otherwise try the classified here or there are some free ones too. and I'm like you then, sad, I loooooove fluffy bums

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 14/01/2009 13:30

try these the nappy site, http://www.usednappies.co.uk/Nature-Babies,category,669,parent_id,categories used nappies site, cloth nappy tree, uk parent lounge

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 14/01/2009 13:31

that's better...

francagoestohollywood · 14/01/2009 19:41

I love the custard cream and these of course. I also seem to remember they had taste the difference bluberry and nut cookis? Or have I dreamt about it? Have they reduced their range of taste the diff and organic things?

I'm knackered. I walked miles and have a headache. The only thing that cheers me up is that I managed 15 mins at Mondadori International, where I browsed though Heat and Waitrose magazine. I gave in and bought a copy of Living Etc...

OP posts:
Sputnik · 14/01/2009 21:19

LOL at Waitrose magazine in Milano!

Sunny, I'll join in the international biscuit swapping too, I'd like some Duchy Original Oat biscuits [ponce]

Although I booked yesterday for easter too, so not that long til I'm there again.

francagoestohollywood · 14/01/2009 21:33

OP posts:
Sputnik · 14/01/2009 21:37

Any of you UK based Italians want my copy of GS "Insieme" magazine?

francagoestohollywood · 14/01/2009 21:47

I also loved those recipe cards by jamie oliver scattered through sainbos... . No esselunga magazine can make up for them

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 14/01/2009 21:51

poor dd, had a funny afternoon because of the jabs, she had long nap, but then awake for hours, so knackered........ poor thing, still all smiles though... righ, off to express... ah, the joys of motherhood!

francagoestohollywood · 14/01/2009 21:54

Oh poor minisunflower . I hope she'll have a better day tomorrow.

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 14/01/2009 22:00

franca I'll def get you those cards. often in sainsbo's while dd goes to her streetdancing class.

have to be quick as late and tired but will join in in bisquit swap anytime.

haven't done the consolato by post thing yet but planning to in the next million years. if anyone is clear on how to get translation and the rest is welcome to tell me.

BIG Q? will I get depressed if I resign? (I have got no choice... but very scared.)

re: flying with two... yes the flying bit is okay is the rest. someone just told me today that they send one box of clothes via TNT the day before so they travel lighter. no idea how much it will cost but considering you pay with cheapo airlines it might be worth a try. we were ok on the way to go as were travelling very light. way back nightmarish as kids tired and loads of bags full of ringo boys, pane perugino, tbone steaks and sausages . not pathetis italians as all for dh!

ciao. a domani.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 15/01/2009 09:47

Spent about an hour going round in circles on the cosolato's website last night to find all the moduli etc you need... why do they have to be so complicated!?!? the translation thing seems to be just a form you fill in with the info of the birth cert that will be kept at COmune, surely it's a very complex doc to understand

at sausages and roast! I get sausages and salami s.times.. but best is my French Aunt who packs the car with cartons of panna and salumi every summer when they go back to France after their hols in Caorle

francagoestohollywood · 15/01/2009 10:10

What is exactly a streetdancing class? Is it like hip hop? How cool is your dd Pippi ???

No idea about consolato, dh has always taken care of the bureaucratic bit, and got immensely depressed and angry with the Italian consulate. I just went once to the proconsolato in Bristol to pick up my renewed passport.

Pippi, no I don't think you will get depressed. Aren't you doing the course next year? You will have your hands full with that, no time for getting depressed. And when you're finished you'll be able to look for another, more challenging job. The good thing about the Uk is that there are many more opportunities than Italy. At least in London. Plus you are an optimist, you won't get depressed, it will work out.

Lol at your french auntie! (we also smuggled salame. Once, we even smuggled a big piece of speck)

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 15/01/2009 10:17

mmmmmmmmmmm, yummmmmmmm, speck..........

oh, pippi, I might have to take an un-paid "career break" because of childcare (though I think I have to go back for at least a month to keep my "top-up" mat pay...) I feel a bit scared as supposed to depressed, though I know I will have a job to go back to, though not "my" job. as Franca said, there are so many opportunities in UK, and even working from home is easier than italy. and the way you've hamdled your 2 DDs and DH in hospital, can't see you having problems in the future! What do you do atm?

francagoestohollywood · 15/01/2009 10:23

What are your childcare arrangements Sun?

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 15/01/2009 10:47

basically, if DP can't work from home for a couple of days a week, either me or him will have to be a SAHP (I would work from home 2 days a week, but would have to go in the office for 2), unless I find affordable childminder for 2 days... but at the same time I don't feel comfortable putting DD in childcare so young, kind of feel "unfair" as DS started 2 am per week in private nursery at nearly 2...

hothell · 15/01/2009 11:02

i didn't get depressed when i resigned when i had ds, but my job was boring as fuck to be honest, and wanted to be with ds. Best years of my life I must say, would feel gutted if I had gone back to work fulltime, but, and this is a big BUT, dp, as much as i moan about him, is very hands on, does not have expectations about me being the stay at home mum, i have time to spend by myself, and i will go back to work when i am done with having small kids. also my job was not my identity, so it was a relief. also am in london, so lots of stuff to do during the day, easy to meet like minded parents, etc. Would have been hell in the sticks for me. Also dp gives me half of what he earns for my job at home. Do you have any options Pippi? Are yu going to do the course? One thing is hard being a teacher is that you can never have time off for school run..

PippiCalzelunghe · 15/01/2009 11:04

Franca I have no idea what street dancing involves as I drop her off and they take the children to a room for half an hour and back she comes all smiles. what she shows me at home doesn't help as she's the most uncoordinated person in the world after moi! I guess is some kind of modern dance/gymnastics. a big BOH!!!

re job... I work in housing sunnflower. I could get a year off I think (unpaid) but I still have to go back for 3 months for the 'top up' like you say. at the moment 3 months seem too much and impossible. must speak to dh today and see.

true about the course franca...

current climate here makes me think that it will be quite harder job wise even in mighty london.

oh well.

Thanks for thinking of me as an optimist franca . I guess you're right though. [franca has made pippi's day].

PippiCalzelunghe · 15/01/2009 11:08

hello hot!

you say a lot of right things as job is boring. it's far. plenty of thinks to do for me here. dh's money are my money . he would not expect me to be anthea (except when in a bad mood and/or sex starved ).

I just wonder if I miss having a life outside the family and whether I will always talk about kids...

must go pick up dd1.

a dopo ciao.

francagoestohollywood · 15/01/2009 11:19

Childcare is a nightmare in the UK, I agree.
Personally, I didn't enjoy being a sahm as much, possibly because it wasn't a positive decision, given that I really didn't have a job to go back to (long sotry, I won't bore you!)
At times I think I'd have a third child if I had a job to go back to .

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 15/01/2009 11:42

good luck in finding a solution pippi! (DH secretly wants to be a SAHD, but we'd argue constantly how he folds the washing )

couldn't PILs/Parents help with those 3 months (that's the only way we could do it), still got some time here to decide, but time's flying by, can't believe DD will be 19wks tomorrow!
