Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:

We have a super kingsize (got it once we realised we would be bedsharing with DD).

I can honestly say it is one of the best things ever to happen to me. I am evangelical about it. [choral music emoticon] It's a bit like mobile phones: I'm really not sure how we managed before!

I hope Rosa & family are getting better, poor things.

Yuck to McD's party; though must admit, as a child, t'was the height of cool to have a party there. Naturally, my mother refused point blank ever to allow it.

I am still reeling, I must admit, at the realisation that my DH has been watching PaP - and that there is no redeeming feature to that!

On AnnoZero do they all sit in armchairs and fight, franca? If so, that's the show....

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 21:35

Oh, were did you get it? Today I went to 3 posh places, but I'm not satisfied.

They fight on many progs:

  • Porta a porta (with the occasional shaking of nipple tassels/tassles and extremely well studied crossing of naked legs)
  • Anno zero, on rai 2, the one with michele santoro (grey long hair, but no glasses, actually). They sit, but on normal chairs, if i remember well
  • Ballaro' on rai tre, the one with Floris, who wears glasses but has brown hair. They sit on armchair.
-Matrix on canale 5, hosted by enrico mentana. Curly grey hair, wears glasses.
  • Several programs on la7, I like Lilly Gruber hosting ottoemezzo (thankfully the evil Ferrara has gone), but no armchairs, they sit by a table.

John Lewis, I'm afraid. It's Visprung, or somesuch. It has a gazillion springs. I love it: so much space - both of us (plus DD) can practically make star shapes! Which is good, as DH gets too hot at night, and I like to keep cool!

I will just have to ask him about which show it is I'm thinking of. And confront him about PaP!!!

At the moment, though, he's into some kind of nostalgic funk, watching Italian singers on youtube.

That and singing: Orzo bimbo, bim-boom-bam!

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 21:51

A Vspring? I lusted after Vsprings all the time we lived in the UK.
I want Vspring!

Yes go and confront dh. Tell him I read that they are going to re-issue 1970s RAI mistery sceneggiati, like A come Andromeda.

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 21:59

It was eyewateringly expensive - I nearly wept at the cost. But I'm telling myself it will last 20 years and will even out...

Ooooh - I will.

He was recently watching La freccia nera with some boyish relish.

I want to see the Promessi Sposi series.

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 22:03

Oh I know it is really expensive. But, as you said, a bed is for life...

La freccia nera? The old one with loretta goggi, I hope. Nice to see your dh is a nostalgic. I'm the same. Where does your dh find all these series? I remember the Promessi sposi with Paola Pitagora! I also have vague memories of watching l'orlando furioso, I was a tiny child!

Today I finally found the dvd of Visconti's Le notti bianche, I had been looking for it for ages!

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 22:11

Ahhhh - is it out? We waited ages for Senso too!

Another Italian expat got them from someone working in Italian tv - black market!

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 22:18

I'm now ! There are so many rai sceneggiati I wish I could see again!

Senso, I don't think I've ever seen the dvd. It is another favourite of mine. There is il gattopardo, morte a venezia, Ludwig and something else with the divine Helmut berger, can't remember the title.

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 22:24

Luuuuuuurrrrrvvveee Ludwig! It is so daft and whatsherface is so beautiful! And Berger is totally cute.

Gattopardo kicks ass - it was out in UK cinemas a couple of years ago - did you catch it before you went back? It was so cool to see it on the big screen.

Also love Death in Venice.

Senso is out, but disappointing - cut and the transfer was funny. Poor reviews on Amazon. I wanted to see it, so got it anyway, but I believe it's better, so hoping for a true reissue.

My true guilty secret though is my love of Dario Argento....

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 22:36

Romy Schneider! She was so beautiful, and she had such a tragic life . I remember seeing a picture of her kissing a very young and impossibly handsome alain delon.... awwwwww.

You like Dario Argento? I love his movies, I'm obsessed by some of them!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 22:39

(no, I didn't get to see the gattopardo at the movies. My life as a movie goer has been somewhat zeroed by the birth of the dc)

Senso is fantastic, but again never seen it on the big screen.

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 22:41

Did she? Must wiki her and find out.

Oh god - love them! Have box set! love The Goblins too When I want to freak out my DH, I speak to him in Goblins voices!

Profondo Rosso and Suspiria are my current faves.

Hey - if you like Dirk in Morte, do you also like (not all Visconti, obviously):

Caduta degli dei
The Servant

and

that completely dodgy one:

The Night Porter

?

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 22:50

Yes, Profondo Rosso and Suspiria are my fav ones as well. Brrrrrrrr! Suspiria is especially stuck to my mind. And I watched all his 1970s movies when I was really young, as the berlusconi's channels would play them uncensored in the early 80s! (and my parents were quite liberal in letting me watch what I wanted )

Which one is the servant?

Il portiere di notte, I have never seen it, and I think it must be too upsetting

La caduta degli dei, I think I saw bits of it. But def saw Gruppo di famiglia in un interno, which was weird (and I was too young to watch it, possibly)

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 22:56

holy shit - i nearly had a heart attack.... dd just had her first night terror!

Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 23:02

Not an Italian film - Dirk B as creepy servant.

Screenplay by Pinter.

Night Porter is nasty!

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 23:06

Night terrors are awful! I didn't know babies could have them. Poor dd, is she settled now?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 23:08

Oh. Never heard of it before. Yes, it does look creepy.

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 23:09

Well, I assume that's what it was... She just started screaming and crying, but when I picked her up she wasn't awake.

Shiver.

After talking about Dario Argento too!

She's ok, thanks. I cuddled her and she stopped. She's asleep again...

francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2009 23:18

It does sound like a night terror. Poor baby! Glad she's settled back to sleep.

I'm going to my 130 cm bed. I'll dream of a vispring.... good night!

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/01/2009 23:28

Buona notte!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 10/01/2009 23:54

hate night terrors! DS would cry and scream, and only thing to do is turn lights on and wake him......... horrible!

I'd be happy with just kingsize rete and mattress, don't care about bed itself... Can't understand why they ever invented double beds, but in saying that we wouldn't be able to fit a king in our bedroom, even though the room itself is big enough, we have s.thing on each wall, window on opposite walls, fireplace on one side, door nearly opposite fire place.... and we're quite small and slim(well, before DD ).... and can't preperly fit lovely bed sheets mum got me

can't get the sountrack of profondo rosso out of my head now, guess I'll have a night terror now..

buona notte e sogni d'oro, especially to bimbi & Casa Rosa

gio71 · 11/01/2009 08:41

poor DD Penthesilei, did she sleep ok afterwards?
Any news Rosa on how you all are?
DP also obsessed with Dario Argento, I am a total wuss when it comes to anything remotely scarey so don't get it (had a nightmare after an Agatha Christie episode once
FIL is worlds biggest Alida Valli fan and he was very upset with what they did to Senso on DVD
Sun is shining hurrah! Have kicked lazy dp out of bed and told him we are Doing Something today after all the bloody rain we have had

Rosa · 11/01/2009 13:00

Rosa with propped open eyes joins the fun !
Both are a bit better - they still have febbre but not super high ( phew). DD1 is battuta and her cough is horrible. She is white with red lips - if you know what I mean .Off food ( we are going to have a hell of a time getting her back to eating properly as we have let her have what she feels like). Minirosa is still full of snuffles I sort of made a ramp in her cot and she slept better but I was taking temp just about every hour and with antibiotic taking and dd1 coughing we are both shattered. Dh also really down about it all ( work , the girls the house - he his having is I hate this house and why can't we have a decent one moment - so far lasting 2 days)
Re the nightmare screaming . dd1 one had a couple and it scared the pants off me but we could calm her without waking her.
We have a normal Italian sized double bed - so bigger than a Uk double but not as big as a kingsize. When we go to the states we always request a kingsize bed - massive or what ?
Lovely day here as well - great for a nice walk ...Guess not !!

hothell · 11/01/2009 13:19

Poor Rosa, sounds incredibly stressfull!
All well here, finally no flu! So hello to you all! Been tring to stay away from mumsnet, get so much done....
What did they do to the new Senso?
I love Gruppo di famiglia in un interno, la Mangano e' bellissima. Did she have a tragic life? Saw an old Cardinale the other day, La ragazza con la valigia, she was beautifully curvacious...and then Un'estate violenta con Eleonroa Rossi Drago and a young Trintignant, wonderfully and tediously tragic....
Want to rewatch La piscina with Delon and Schneider, she was wonderful. She had a tragic life because her son died in an accident playing on the high gate of their villa, she went down hill after that, and finally died of an overdose, is that right Franca? Her daughtter is also an actress, not as beautiful though..I would not mind watching those movies where Schneider plays the lttle princess...
Never seen an Argento in my life, must check out if they have any around...

hothell · 11/01/2009 13:21

also i was told that for otite antibiotics don't work...one thing i would watch out is that the otite has not affected her hearing, this happened to a friend, they discovered wehn the girl was 3 that she had been half deaf since she had an infection as a baby, and the deafness was easily fixed..
