Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
Rosa · 11/01/2009 15:12

Thanks for that Hot - long time no hear . glad rge flu has gone. dd1 seems ok ear wise but I will check her hearing when this cold has gone. As for minirosa we still have to have her hearing test follow up as she failed the one at the hospital ( we reached 95% on the machine but have to get 100% )We should have gone to mestre last week but it was snowy and she was snuffly so no point - They will call us end of the month

francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2009 16:10

Hello,
Rosa, glad to hear the dds are better today, hope they are both on the mend. I feel for you and dh, it is terribly depressing when both the dc (and adults) are unwell, and you feel trapped in your own house. The biggest rows we had (me and dh) happened when we were on our own in Exeter with both dc ill .

Hot, glad to see you back! All the actresses you list were/are simply gorgeous, Claudia Cardinale in particular. I often wonder how she ended up married with that awful right wing pretentious director, Pasquale Squittieri. And yes, Romy Schneider never got over her son's (who was so beautiful) death. So tragic . (I remember reading avidly about her life when I was young. My parents never bought gossip magazines, but some relatives of ours - who lived in the country where I spent all my summers as a child- bought Gente and Stop and didn't throw them away. I used to spend my afternoons at theirs catching up on all the gossips! I loved it!)
You can easily find Dario Argento's dvd in the UK.

Sunflower, I don't think we'll ever get round getting a new bad. It's too a complicated choice... and yes, it'd mean changing all the bedlinen!!!

Gio, so what did you do in lovely Rome on this gorgeous day?

We went out for lunch with lots of friends... I held df's lovely 2 months dd.... awwwwww so lovely!
Ds has a bit of temperature...

Rosa, let us know how it goes, hope you'll get more sleep tonight.

hothell · 11/01/2009 17:42

didnt' realize squittieri is right wing....is he very rich? that would explain why she married him, he is terribly terribly ugly no?
i loved gossip mags too, now they are all about horrid celebrities a la jordan, katona, etc...

francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2009 19:03

He is in Polo delle liberta'.

Yes, gossip mags aren't what they used to be. Full of z list celebrities (mostly contestants of reality shows, or Maria de Filippi's tronisti).

I loved Intimita' and Stop in the 70s

OP posts:
hothell · 11/01/2009 20:35

dont remember Intimita, but great name for a gossip mag: imagine in English it would be Intimacy, lol.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/01/2009 20:35

Rosa, glad you're all getting better!

I loved Romy Schneider when I was little, I must have watched La Principessa Sissi a million times!

francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2009 21:02

I loved those Sissi movies too... I remember Rai aired them at least once a year...

Hot, Intimita' had a bit of gossip/recipes/knitting and a fantastic collection of "real" stories, that allegedly the readers sent.
I also had a friend (in the country where I went on holiday) who collected Dolly. Do you remember it? My mother wouldn't let me buy it, but I read it there!

Penthesileia · 11/01/2009 21:13

Hope your DDs are feeling better, Rosa.

Inspired by our conversation last night, I got out my Dario box set and began to watch the one film I hadn't watched yet 'Cat O' Nine Tails'. But because of looking after DD, I haven't managed to see the whole thing yet... Just got to the part where the little girl is kidnapped. I think it is the sexy daughter Anna who is the deranged killer!

Intimacy sounds like a sanitary product in English!

Claudia Cardinale is too beautiful. She makes my eyes hurt in Il Gattopardo.

Poor Romy Schneider! I didn't know that about her son.

francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2009 21:28

I think I saw the cat etc in the early 80s, so I can't remember. But yes,, usually the murderers are women...

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 11/01/2009 21:40

Isn't it always, franca? Isn't it always?

Getting a shiver thinking about that scene in Profondo Rosso where David Hemmings walks down the corridor and the woman's mad face is reflected in the mirror. Brrrr!

francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2009 21:45

It's terrifying (Btw, have you seen her in Visconti's Ossessione/Obsession??? What a change )

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 11/01/2009 21:54

Yes!!!!! Is it her??? I hadn't realised!! Gosh!

God, I love Italian films. Someone posted about going to a Fellini-themed party - I would try to go as La Gradisca!!!!! (Although with my bf-ing boobs, I am more like the lady in the tobacco shop )!

francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2009 22:09

Ah, la gradisca...

Off to bed now. I'm keeping ds home tomorrow as he has a bit of a temp. Hope it's not the flu.

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 11/01/2009 22:11

Fingers crossed!! Night night.

francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2009 22:20

'night (evil MN, difficult to leave)

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/01/2009 22:36

right, tomorrow I'm starting new exercising regime, trying the wii fit, if not working will have to get a fitness dvd... can't bear wearing the same baggy clothes anymore!!! though it'll mean giving up MN time...

night night

Rosa · 12/01/2009 08:55

Can't comment on scary films mind you Sissi was on over Christmas think they did the lot - It was on Rai 1 or it might have been 3.
DDs on the mend and I am taking them out for air this morning ( how Italian ) maybe I should have phrased it taking air !!!
Franca I hope not the flu for your ds...mind you you have been through it. Just called my doc for my 6 week check up ( yes minirosa is 2 mths !!!) he has broken his leg so I will be having a 3 mth check up ...opps !
SUnflower all teh best with your exercise regime.. My wii fit looks at me daily - I smile and pat it and promise I will use it soon but if I have a free 30 mins ( errrrm not that often ) then I feel I should do something domestic !

Penthesileia · 12/01/2009 09:39

Oooh - Sunflower - update on how you get on with the Wii Fit... I am reasonably tempted by the idea...

Hi Rosa - glad your DDs are feeling better. How ironic about your doctor!

Franca - how is DS this morning?

Well, I am an evil sexist! Watched the rest of the film over breakfast toast... T'was not the sexy Anna (who indeed reprimanded the male lead for suspecting her, "The typical Italian equation. Whore = liar = murderer!" ). It was the bland and nondescript male scientist. I am clearly easily led by all-too-obvious clues!

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/01/2009 10:12

hello. quick update while dd1 watches mago di oz.

LOL at penthe's dh singing 'orzo bimbo' .

no snow here, suny and warm.

loves sissi too...

rosa hope dds are better now.

dh feels unloved because I don't call him often and thinks I am having an affair because I am often out in the evening... .

no more news. comp very slow and with a bit of life for a change I will see you on the 14th.

francagoestohollywood · 12/01/2009 10:14

Rosa, glad the dds are on the mend . It is a beautiful day here in Milan, hope it's the same in Venice, so that you can take them outside for a refreshing walk.
Ds seems fine this morning. He is now in the kitchen eating noci and panettone...

Beware of the wii fit. Apparently the personal trainer tells you off if you miss your daily exercise... . This is what bil and sil told me.

Ciao Pippi! We used to go out almost every night when we visited italy and stayed at my parents... free babysitting
Have fun, make the most of it

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/01/2009 10:38

Pippi, the only times I go out is when I'm in Italy as I can leave DS (DD too from next time) with my parents, so just enjoy it!

oh, so the instructor will tell me off now as I did't do anything yeasterday, too busy cleaning/taking decs down. Rosa, glad you're al on the mend, very grey and windy here though, we got plenty of aria walking to school! got plenty of putting away to do, but my thinking is if I loose the last few kgs and get into my normal clothes I'll feel less miserable and more energetic and be a better domestic goddess (yeah, right)

"orzo bimbo che bonta'" can't get that out of my head now!

Brangelina · 12/01/2009 10:39

Ooh look at you lot talking about cult Italian cinema while I was watching Ballando con le Stelle . DP is a Dario argento fan but I've never been able to get through any of his films without falling asleep halfway through. I think it's because DP turns off all the lights though, no reflection on Dario.

Rosa, glad DD1 is better. Good idea to take her out for aria - it's a lovely day here - but do be careful it's not troppa aria. What is the right quantitiy of aria and how do you measure it, I wonder?

Good luck with the Wii Fit. My dsis has one and says it's tiring but knowing her normal levels of exercise (i.e. walking from her front door to the car) I was unconvinced. Is really like practising a sport? Do you get just as worn out? Mind you, I'd never have the willpower to get around to doing it, I never do anything at home. My cats use my gym mat as a scratching post and dumbells have become door stoppers. DP even bought one of those bars you hang off upside down to do addominali but so far the only things to hang of it are his shirts. Oh how I laughed.

DP got me gym membership for Xmas so I went on Friday, stupidly did all the same weights as before DD (4 years ago!) and have been walking like a disjointed robot all weekend. I have to hold onto things to sit down as have lost the ability to bend my legs. I ought to go again tonight but would rather wait until I can walk fluidly again, whenever that may be...

Brangelina · 12/01/2009 10:42

Lol Pippi. I never call DP when I'm away either and he gets all offended. Make the most of the babysitting, I'm very .

francagoestohollywood · 12/01/2009 10:44

Lol Brangelina at the gym . Oh gosh, I hate going to the gym. I haven't exercised since 2001

Brange, I promised my friend I'd make a chocolate cake for her dd's birthday party on Saturday. Do you think I can use your recipe???
