francagoestohollywood · 20/12/2008 16:14

Glad that the festa went well rosa!
And by the way, I tut tutted too at the bed organization of ds's school fete... Plus, the teacher told me that ds gets very upset when the other children don't take turns. He is English through and through, poor thing, he's up for great disappointments

article on the performance of Italian primary school, which is doing very well. Shame it's going to be "reformed"

Hi all, sorry to hear about DCs illnesses and relatives' losing jobs (DB in italy told he might need to look for a new job, yeah, as if that'll be easy, but at least ok so far)

DP worked from home all week so didn't get much chance of using laptop, plus finally done xmas shopping, and yes, tree finally up, with presepe following later hopefully (took 3 days for sand to dry...), and too tired at night (dd still waking up for feed at night...) Oh, got my statuine from Italy, then DP got a set (stable + basic figurines} at lidl, a couple of yrs ago as I needed the stable... I love them, not xmas for me without one...

understand the different person thing, after all I spent all my adult life here, definetly have to make more of an effort when I go out in italy, or mum makes sure of that anyway...

francagoestohollywood · 21/12/2008 16:32

Glad you put the tree up And the presepe is always lovely. My grandmother used to have a lovely one and we gathered muschio to use it on the fake mountains... so many lovely memories...

TantiK · 21/12/2008 20:10

no presepe here either - I have a little candle holder one somewhere but I can't find it in all the stuff we bought over from England. In fact our tree this year is more like a kinder advert as I couldn't find any of our decorations. We even made some decorations last year out of dried bread . I made a garland of popcorn and I think that nearly the whole tree is edible! There aren't many kinder treats left on it either....

We went to the mercatino in Merano yesterday and found many of the presepe a bit too twee - I liked the very simple wooden ones that weren't even painted. But somehow I just felt that being a mercatino it would have been overpriced - maybe I'll check again for one after Christmas.

Thanks for the advice re. tablets for thrush - I took them anyway. Didn't want to risk getting an infection, so hopefully no problems when I next have my visita. I had heard that most state gynae's are antipatico and that the private ones are much better - but with the house renovation to do I can't spare the money at all! Especially when they all do the same thing in the end (I wish I could go private, but we have made plenty of sacrifices in the hope of saving money so this is something that I am not pushing).

Two more days left until we leave for England - and I am still missing some presents...aarrggghhhh.

I too didn't realise Friday was the last day at Asilo - but luckily found out in time. DS was fab in his festicciola - he played Rudolph who had a bad tummy. He had to put a bag of things up his top and be operated on until they discovered what was wrong with him. When he came in he had to crawl over to Father Christmas and then climb on the 'operating' table. But he got 'stage fright' and was crying (silently) - but still carried on. I felt so proud and sad for him - but I can't believe he carried on.

Right - I'm off to do the washing up and then my pre-natal pilates DVD (if I am still feeling energetic!)

hothell · 21/12/2008 20:34

yep managed to finish gomorra, very good and scary, piperno a laugh, but feel like moving onto something else. dunno how i manage to read so much, little telly i guess, kids sleep a lot and dp helps a lot, not so frantic this tijme round.
all this talk of presepe makes me very nostalgic for one..maybe a homemade one?
max beasly is rather hot indeed!!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 21/12/2008 21:55

Tantik, doctors in Italy - in general - have terrible bedside manners. There are many exceptions to the rule, but unfortunately they are averagely antipatici .
I feel like I'm going down with whatever dd had (she seems better today)... and I still have to finish the evil xmas shopping.
There is a media frenzy on the arrival of the Beckhams here

Yes, I love max beesley. I hope they'll have dvds of survivors, will buy them if they do!

OP posts:
Rosa · 22/12/2008 21:23

touching base- hectic here - Franca hope you are ok .
Bought Gomorra for dh hope he likes it.
Promise to come back when have more time .Hugs to you all ....

Brangelina · 22/12/2008 23:01

Lol at the Beckham frenzy. I've had people ringing me up all day asking if I've spotted him out and about yet. As if we do frequent the same circles.... I'm still kicking myself for not insisting that I be the official Milan interpreter.

Gomorra is good, DP is reading it far too slowly - I'm not reading it "properly" and have already caught him up. Grrr

Glad everyone's feste went well, nothing going on here just very manic at work. DP had an arsey moment as he thought he'd taken a week off to take his DS skiing. I had to put him right and point out that the time off was for childcare during one half of the school holidays so I could actually spend full days in the office, especially seeing as I'll have DD all of next week. He had the hump but seems to have got over it, luckily too, otherwise I would have taken his present back to the shop and bought something nice for myself[evil.

Does anyone know what caraway seeds are in Italian? Is it semi di kummel, like in Dutch? I seem to remember that from somewhere but I could have just imagined it.

francagoestohollywood · 23/12/2008 10:33

Hi, dd still has on and off temperature, I'm taking her to the pediatrician this afternoon.

Dh has man flu.

And I still have to wrap some presents. I hate wrapping presents.

Rosa, how is dd2 doing? are your nights a bit better?

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 23/12/2008 19:35

we all seem to be rushing and running. same in the pippi's household. got tonight to tidy up the house and make it presentable. Last night went to the supermamrket at 10.30pm thinking I made a smart move... it was packed! shelves empty, trolley overflowing...made me want to go home hide and celebrate on the 28th.

Buon Natale to you all and I wish you a lovely day and lots of fun... and lots of lovely pressies!

PS: DD2 walks .

francagoestohollywood · 23/12/2008 20:30

she walks ??? Already??? Well done . Awwwwww she must be so cute!!!

Buon Natale dear Pippi, have a lovely time . Report back with the presents!

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 23/12/2008 21:32

yes she walks holding on to my hand but she's super fast. TBH she is a PITA as all she wants to do in life now is walk... but as she cannot do it on her own imagine the state of my poor back!

Haven't tidy that much. spent an hour on the phone with a friend in sweden (merry xmas bt!) and now ready to have a cuppa.

are you all frantic?

francagoestohollywood · 23/12/2008 21:55

Oh yes. My back has never recovered after dd. I think with my first I was full of enthusiasm. With dd I wished I could do as little as possible . Exhausting, yes, but they are soooooooooooo cute!!!

No, I'm not frantic. I'm here wrapping presents. We aren't hosting anything (don't think we could fit 40 guests in 90 square metres , we are off tomorrow. Ds is already there.

OP posts:
ChristmasFlower · 23/12/2008 22:17

hi everyone,

frantic here too, well, should be, but DD won't let me do anything, have to carry her all the time, and hates if I'm sitting down, I have to stand... so this afternoon I decided to put her on the door boucer, and she just loves it, she "walks" around in circles... DS was like your DD, pippi, from about 4.5 months that's all he wanted to do! hope dd is a bit more relaxed...

DP's just gone to tesco's to get few essentials, and he's just called to say it's taken him 15mins to park!!! just want some bread and milk.... and cheesecake will have to wrap the presents tomorrow night (I know we'll regret it, Dp's bought DS a drum kit [fshok]!!). at least DP's working half day tomorrow so while he does the cleaning, I'll prepare the food (and hold/feed/change the baby...) and hide the washing - not that we'll have anyone around but it would be nice not to see nappies/bibs/babygrows etc hang to dry everywhere!

anyway, BUON NATALE E FELICE 2009 to all of you and your families!

gio71 · 24/12/2008 08:01

what are you all having for Christmas dinner? And can anyone tell me best cuts of meat to get for a bollito? Bloody dp has requested change of menu at last minute and as PITA FIL is coming round and will criticise everything I make I want to get it perfect! (recipe for disaster even expressing that idea)
Pippi-dd2 walking?????!?!! She was only born 2 mins ago!!! How old is she now?

francagoestohollywood · 24/12/2008 11:01

Gio, have you got an Esselunga nr you? Their meat is actually quite nice and they write what the pieces are for (roast, bollito, brasato etc). I usually get Biancostato to make brodo di carne. recipe for bollito misto here

Christmasflower, you've been really brave buying a drum kit . have a lovely day tomorrow, BUON NATALE A TUTTI!!!!!!!!!!
