Benvenuti, ciao hello

PippiCalzelunghe · 16/12/2008 20:13

what about this childhood museum hot?

francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2008 20:19

Have tried to open it with no success (it is an old nokia)

I've never watched the Montalbano series (though it has many fans, but have read many Montalbano books (especially when I was bed ridden with chicken pox a few yrs ago) and I do recommend them. Hot I'm going to post the book tomorrow btw!

Dunno, we still have a bank account in the uk and use the uk credit card to buy on amazon.

hi all, haven't popped in for a while and thought i lost you...

DH's had stomach bug too - praying he hasn't passed it on... not looking fwd to bf with such virus... hope you get better soon Gio.

anyway, my pelvis/hips/legs were getting better after pg, but I think the long walk to meet post-natal group mums yesterday didn't do any good and been in agony since (not good when we're always rushing during school run either)... DS had sleepless night (he has night legs pains, so thinking of getting him tested for thalessaemia trait, which can cause it, and has to thank me for it , horrible seeing him cry in agony) DD has started waking up at night again after about 10 days of sleeping through, but hoping it's just a growth spurt... but hey, at least started on xmas, DS made a small xmas tree for his bedroom, got presepe's stuff down from the loft for tomorrow and hopefully main tree will be up by Saturday.

oh, I watched Montalbano too by chance didn't know it was on every week - never watched it on RAI, though my mum said it was ok... was hoping DH would watch it to "practice" his Italian, but was didn't, and I kept on getting annoyed with myself as I couldn't stop reading the subtitles, as if I didn't understand !!

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/12/2008 00:14

I wrote a long email and comp f&()&%^$ed up and I've lost it!! aaargghhh!!!

anyway I did ask xmas flower about poor DS and what can be done if he's got the thalassemia trait. Have you got it as well? I am sorry if being too nosey and just ignore me pls.

Rosa, Xmas I am not envious of your sleepless nights and breastfeeding pains...however I think those are one of the best and loveliest memories so hang on in there! My dd2 has got a bad cold and cough and in the night sounds like a dof barking and in the morning her face is covered in crusty snot. poverina!

the I was telling you all how I just finished wrapping up pressies and made a list of DD1 books with links. now I cannot be bothered because I want a cup of cocoa (a la De Beauvoire ).

If you really want to search them for yourselves as are so so wonderful are 'the little book of good manners' and 'the little book of table manners' (which pippi hopes are going to help the whole family become more civilised when out in public !

PS: I haven't read DB's book since Dh has been back (he is the downfall of my literary education!!) but I found it quite disturbing. Not because of the sexual themes and events but more because of the emotional ones. If you read it you'll understand. Hot if you want I'll lend it to you when I'm finished with it in a couple of years time (unless DH has a ricaduta of course) [morbid sense of humour at this time of the night].

CANNOT HAVE CUP OF COCOA BECAUSE THERE'S JUST ENOUGH MILK FOR DD1 MILK TOMORROW MORNING! DAMN! Should I be evil and drink it anyway?????

nigh night.

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/12/2008 00:17

I don't make much sense at this time in the night, do I. and I haven;'t even got the newborn baby excuse.

brange you ok? would you believe I still haven't found out about the will thing. must do soon. when I do I'll tell you for sure. have you by any chance?

ChristmasFlower · 17/12/2008 09:50

Pippi, no worries, thanks for asking as well! but yes, I'm a carrier too (got it from mum, and DB too). I only have problems with my iron, and my body doesn't seem to like it in supplements, but was worse when I was little.

DS has been having these pains on-off for 2 years now (he's 4) ,they just happen at night and they go on for few nights, then nothing for months, though lately it's more often. it's just heartbreaking and can't really keep on giving him nurofern... I asked some time ago to have him tested for it, but they said he's too young to do "unnecessary" blood tests as the trait wouldn't affect him anyway, so I guess I will insist this time, as just found out that that can be one of the things you get for being a carrier, though neither DB or I ever got these pains)...

DD's put a stop to my litereary education here, haven't read a page since she arrived 14 weeks ago!!

TantiK · 17/12/2008 10:30

I was going to post, but think I will dash off to next first...be back soon!

TantiK · 17/12/2008 10:42

It's all true - my maternity wardrobe is going to be a whole lot better!!!! yipee! (as is DS's wardrobe!). (I wasn't even that keen on Next when I was in the UK - I found that I liked something, bought it and then everyone else had bought the same thing!). But I still struggle to find what I am looking for in the shops here (certainly doesn't help now I am in the middle of nowhere!).

Pippi - I often have the same milk dilema - cereal for DS or coffee for me! I usually manage to convince him to have toast!! .

DS here has been unwell too - three nights of 'febre' but days have been fine. Weird. He was okay last night and fine today so is at Asilo ready to practice for his Festiciola (is that how you spell it!). I heard yesterday that they do singing and stuff like an English nativity I guess - I can't wait. But given how emotional I am at the moment I think I will need a shed load of tissues! Good news is that DH may make it up from Rome to the festiciola on Friday - an extra day together yey!

We are currently bracing ourselves for another 0.5m of snow tomorrow. My FIL has been busy reinforcing my roof (we live in a very old house which is just hay lofts for the top two floors and totally wooden!).

Brangelina · 17/12/2008 15:49

Pippi - I have been to a notaio but he was useless. He was supposed to ring me after investigating but l'hai sentito per caso tu? These people obviously have far too much money and don't need the work!

Montalbano - yes, it's brilliant and I'm a total fan. It's one of the few home grown things here that's actually worth watching, not least for the "local colour" aspect. The books are good too if you can hold of them in lingua originale (not sure how Camilleri would be translated into English, perhaps like Trainspotting was translated into Italian). I was introduced to them by my Sicilian neighbour who's from the same area and now buy them as soon as they come out. The subtitles are a pain, I sometimes have them on for DP when I want to watch a film in English and I send up reading them assiduously and get irritated by incorrect translations.

Lol at the milk dilemma! It doesn't happen here as I hate milk, but my selfishness sometimes extends to me being too lazy to pop out and buy it when it runs out. Luckily DD is quite fond of toast and peanut butter.

Must dash, got to pick up DD. she's always the last one left [bad mum emoticon].

francagoestohollywood · 17/12/2008 16:02

Cristmasflower, I hope that they can figure out the reason to your ds's pain asap. Grrrrrr why are they always so unwilling to test? I know they go really OTT with the testing in Italy (and waste money), but surely there must be a middle way? Especially with small children.

Frantic day today, schoolrun, mad dash to replace the mobile, switch on the new mobile (hoping to go to do some xmas shopping) to discover a sms asking me to go to work, opened the shop, came back home at 13.20, left 20 mins later to take dd to swimming lessons . I'm here now to kanckered to do anything else, but I need to do a million things . I'm so disorganized. Of course I blame mn

Tantik your place sounds idyllic!

francagoestohollywood · 17/12/2008 16:03

Tantik, dd had her festicciola on monday ... I cried...

OP posts:
Sputnik · 17/12/2008 16:15

Your house sounds romantic Tantik.
I think my DD's school is the only one that doesn't do a recita I was moaning about it with a friend just the other day.
They didn't do their xmas mercatino this year either.

Xmasflower, I hope they can get to the bottom of your DS's pain, sounds awful poor thing.

Brangelina · 17/12/2008 16:49

DD's school doesn't do a recita either, nor did her nursery. I'm not sure there's a festicciola, people are supposed to bring cakes for a bake sale on Thursday but no one mentioned any party. She does have her saggio di danza so no doubt I'll be sobbing over that.

Xmas Flower it's odd that they won't test for thalassaemia, I remember being offered the test on numerous occasions by my GP purely on the basis of me being olive skinned. Those were other times though, no doubt the NHS is more cash strapped now so is trying to cut corners when it shouldn't. I thought both parents had to be carriers for a child to be affected though? Is your DH a carrier too? I don't see why being a boy makes a difference - didn't thalassaemia evolve as protection against malaria so surely it would affect both genders equally? Boh

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/12/2008 20:10

tantik do you live in heidi's house? can we come over next summer?

xmasflower please do insist. poor ds . gp are rubbish for testing unless you force them to.

since we are talking about medical stuff, dh and I are both rhesus -. Both dds would be - as well no?

Rosa · 17/12/2008 20:16

TAntik I would offer you some of my mat stuff but unless you are a 'ample ' pre pg shape then I guess it will be too big. how was scan ????
Friday we have the mini party - they are singing a few songs that they sing daily and then mums are doing THE SONGS and then we are doing a few games all together. I have bought 1 video tape and made sure that all batteries are fully charged !!
MOntalbano have never watched / read simply as I presume usual bad stuff ( sorry !)
Penthe have you tried the red Baci ?? They were on free tasting the other day bad move on my part as no where to spit it when still in the shop ...and I like cherries or maybe it was as I had just tasted some cheese at the deli counter
minirosa on feeding spurt my boobs hurt !!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 17/12/2008 20:26

rosa we missed dd's saggio di street dancing (no ballet for my uncoordinated-like-her-mum daughter) while dh was in hosp...I was devasted. dd not bothered.

TantiK · 17/12/2008 20:49

ooo - you are getting me all excited about our festicciola! My sister is a pre-school teacher (in uk) and at their nativity one of the children knocked something which knocked over the baby Jesus!!

Our house isn't quite like Heidi's - but that is the kind of idea! My Nonna-in-law's house is more like that - and we are attached to that by (would you believe!) a wooden bridge that the tractors would have used!!! I am lol at the moment because it is so hard to describe!! We live in the middle of the village though so are attached on both sides (the phrase 'terraced house' doesn't quite do it justice - it is too higgledy piggledy for that!!). Maybe I will get very technology advanced and try to upload some pics to my profile. Our plans have been approved to rennovate though - so hopefully no too higgledy piggledy for much longer. Although we received a bill today for 'contributo di concessione' for a silly amount. I thought the unexpected bills would come in the middle/end of the project. Not before we have even started anything!!! What fun we are going to have! Especially with a newborn!

The visita was fine - but are all the state gynaecologists so 'antipatico'. I am sure I didn't even get a smile out of this guy. Sorry if this is TMI but he gave me a thrush cream purely based on the amount of discharge I had - i am not suffering with it at all (i.e no itchiness etc), but he insisted I take this prescription. Maybe I missed something or didn't understand - but it doesn't quite feel right to use the tablets when I don't have any other symptoms (I though dc was normal in pg?) BUT, just to be on the safe side I am taking it all the same. Anyone experienced the same/similar? I even told him I had pain in my pelvis and he didn't even react! Anyway, I am getting more resilient to it now!

Also - I am very pleased as rumoured snow isn't actually going to happen, so I can still get to the shops to do my Christmas shopping (I am very behind!).

francagoestohollywood · 17/12/2008 20:50

what's street dancing?
and what's the red bacio?
Awwwww rosa, how exciting, the first festa at nursery . Prepare to shed a few tears. But not while you're singing le tagliatelle

OP posts:
Brangelina · 17/12/2008 20:53

Aren't the red baci like mon cheri? I'm not keen on liqueur anything so have always avoided stuff like that. As for ferrero rocher, well, that's a whole other story. I got a huge box once for my birthday and made myself sick from eating them all at once.

francagoestohollywood · 17/12/2008 20:55

Tantik, upload the pictures, your place sounds amazing. Can we all come for the summer

at your gynae. Che antipatico! Not sure what the % of antipatici doctors is... quite high, I'm afraid. Though I must say that mine is amazing (but she is a woman, can be one of the reasons)
Dunno about thrush I'm afraid, bBUT last time I went to see my gynae she told me I must have some kind of infection by just looking at the discharge. Sorry TMI!!!!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 17/12/2008 20:56

Poor you TantiK with a crappy gynae. Mine was quite niice but a woman. All the male ones I had were sbrigativi and crap. If you're not happy with who you have it is entirely within your rights to request someone else. Is there not a woman at the consultorio?

PS. Don't take the tabletsif you're not itchy, when I asked my gynae the same question she told me it was perfectly normal.

Brangelina · 17/12/2008 20:57

x posts with Franca, she's obviously much quicker than me at typing.

Sputnik · 17/12/2008 21:05

Tantik, I found the gynaes of the asl pretty antipatici tbh, and was glad to be going private. I only saw them for formalities to get the essenzione ticket (which you don't need anymore). Re thrush, I had it a lot in my 1st pg, but didn't always have itchiness type symptoms. The gynae could tell by looking. One time she actually exclaimed how full of thrush I was!

ChristmasFlower · 17/12/2008 21:08

DS had xmas play last week... managed (just) to hold the tears, had to as had my hands full and no chance of using tissues between DD in sling and holding camera..

forgot to ring GP to see if xrays results are back... but DD was in hourly-feed mood (shall we set up a club, Rosa!?) and only managed to rush to post office to send parcel to italy.

re thal - DP's not a carrier (made sure before and while I was pg with DS). Being a carrier doesn't really affect health much, but, depending of which trait type, there are some issues. In my case is the usual anaemia. one of the problems is this painful growing pains throughout childhood, which I only just found out...

Pippi, I think - and - = -, but no medic here and it's a few years since I was sat at school in a biology lesson...

PippiCalzelunghe · 18/12/2008 11:03

Oh TantiK your place sounds lovely. please please do send pics but be aware that we will come if it is as nice as it sounds!

Xmasflower yes I am pretty sure of that too...

DH has gone back at work today ....
