Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
TantiK · 14/12/2008 18:51

I saw the duckboards on TV the other day - I hadn't realised there was SO much water...I'm living in my little snowy world and kind of didn't realise how bad the rest of Italy was as well. dh has been telling me about the Tevere too - but even in UK there is bad weather (not too much of a suprise) it seems to be everywhere at the moment. I can certainly empathise with you Rosa re. taking miniRosa out - I'm in my snowboots the whole time and worried about slipping over and doing damage to the baby in my belly! It really puts me off going out and the only trips I am making atm are to and from Asilo. Hence I am very behind with my Christmas shopping - but Amazon is coming in very handy!

I was never hugely into dolls - but did end up with a Cabbage Patch Doll as a prize in a fancy dress competition but I had entered as a couple so had to share it with my then best friend. Quite glad actually because it was quite a scary thing!

DS has a fever today - started yesterday evening, he was okay this morning but after his afternoon sleep he never really woke up properly and just lounged in front of a DVD until he asked to go to bed at 5:30pm. I have managed to dose him up with a bit of Calpol - so hopefully now he should sleep through. But there are no other symptoms so think I just have to ride this one out. Will it be very English of me to send him to Asilo tomorrow if he seems okay?!

Santa Lucia paid us a visit yesterday morning (and in fact presents seemed to keep coming all day!) so DS was very happy and can't believe that Father Christmas and Santa Lucia bring him presents! He spent all day playing with his new duplo train set today - so that was a successful present!

We bought our Henry over from the UK and my Dad also swears by the one he uses to clean up at work (he's a carpenter!). He wouldn't have anything else.

Right, I'm off to see if I can find something good on TV . Sorry for the long post - I must get on here more often to keep up!

Brangelina · 14/12/2008 20:55

Rosa - my sister had a Girls World. It was crap, the make up never went on properly and it was all pale blue and nasty pink, so you didn't miss anything there. So you've got the posh Baby alive, the potty training one. IIRC it was shockingly expensive, something like 90 euros so I reined in DP's enthusiasm about that one. Yes, they do look like Chuckie, I'll be keeping my eye on DD's one, any funny business and it's banished to the cellar!

Acqua alta - I saw on the TV yesterday that some hoteliers were doing "acqua alta breaks" for tourists and charging 15% more than the normal seasonal rate for the privilege. You get given free wellies/gators but still! I'm quite shocked that the passerelle are not provided for the whole of the population, in my naivete I thought it would be normal council service, like rubbish collection or whatever.

TnatiK - if your DS seems OK, send him. Don't whatever you do tell them he had a fever this weekend, you'll be giving them a perfect excuse to ring you up after 2 hours to tell you he has "qualche linea di febbre" and could you come and get him. If they ask just say he had a bit of acold....

francagoestohollywood · 14/12/2008 21:26

Penthe, I have no idea as to who chooses the proverbs for the baci perugina... Pippi should know (she is from Perugia)... they are hideous, aren't they? But the baci are yummie. Actually Perugina started to make really nice icecreams, a bit like magnum, but with dark chocolate and more interesting inside...

Yes, the weather has been terrible. It was raining again today. Yesterday ds and dh went to the mountains and there was 1.5 m of snow Tantic it must be so beautiful in your village... ds would love it.

OP posts:
Rosa · 15/12/2008 10:05

DD2 baby alive not coming out of teh box if I can help it !!
Dh still has man bug minirosa and I slept in dd room and as a result I let her snack and nap as when she screamed I did not want her to wake dd as she started to stir. So now I have a grumpy baby who can't understand why I keep putting her down. Took dd to nursery and it was wellies all round . Thankfully not binned old buggy as had to drag it through water !! Should be getting her at 12.00 but will see. Pi*ing down here with a horiible wind.
Relief on the Girls World as I really really wanted one - But I also really really wanted a horse !
Tantik best shoes I had for the snow were Todds copies they were brill !!! Take Care on the icy bits !

PippiCalzelunghe · 15/12/2008 10:14

really really wanted horse here too. I am too scarred for life

francagoestohollywood · 15/12/2008 10:51

Pissing down here as well and windy! I mean, of all the things I wanted to take with me from the Uk it wasn't the weather. But the b**fkjer has followed me

OP posts:
TantiK · 15/12/2008 11:54

Raining here too! At least it means the roads have cleared a bit and I can take the car for my visita later today...wish me luck. Hopefully no tears this time around! I'm sure I've done all I need to this time so I shouldn't get shouted at or a stern look - but you never know!

DS is so far still happily at Asilo...I am still expecting a call after his nap though to say that he has the 'febre', but at least I had a morning to get on with mumsnet work.

Rather than a scary doll to contend with we have a train track now to accommodate in our tiny little flat. If my Dad were here he would have a spare bit of wood for me to put it on. Oh well.

Rosa · 15/12/2008 12:38

Tantik agree dads are so useful !!! We took a shelf out of the wardrobe and used that when we needed a flat board . It just meant I had larger piles of clothes .
Went to get dd and left buggy at nursery and had to carry her back home through water over big bridge . It was chucking it down gave up on the brolly but we did have her mantellina on - just for you Franca
Water was very high and should be again tom but 30 mins later so the peak at 12.00 which means might have to a) leave her in there or b) not take her . Seeing there is no mensa might have to go for b). Days like this I hate Venice and I mean HATE . Also it is the consoltorio xmas party in the morning and minirosa has a santa suit !

francagoestohollywood · 15/12/2008 13:00

Tantik ds loved train sets when he was younger. He still plays occasionally with his thomas the tank engine!!!

Rosa, in a weather like this I think the mantellina is required . Gosh it is appalling! I have backache, I know it's the damp!
Your dd2 must be so cute in her suit

OP posts:
TantiK · 15/12/2008 13:17

you must send pics of mini Rosa in santa suit! In fact - I am sure I never saw pics of her at all. How do I go about giving you an email address??!!! I have just about mastered posting on mumsnet, let alone anything more complicated! I promise I will exchange them for pics of baby tanti in March/April.

Sputnik · 16/12/2008 15:35

Oh that is interesting about Next. And we're getting 90p to the euro now.
It has stopped raining here for now, but it is really wet, the Tevere is overflowing in places, I've never seen it so high.

Sorry about your late nights Rosa, Daisy, my AN mate with baby a week or so older than yours, has been having the same thing.

Rosa · 16/12/2008 16:59

Slept for 1hr 30 god I feeeeel better ....DH took minirompe as she started to nap then woke . I did hear a few yells but the duvet was sooo good.
Sputnik I am on the Nov AN thread and there seem to be a fair few of us in the same boat!
Realised I have forgotten to order the pan di spagna for the cake oh dear me. Better go and see if Ican grovel. Its STILl raining here as well but water did not get up to the expected 1m15 it hit only 1m so tmuch better.

Sputnik · 16/12/2008 17:33

Glad you got a nap in the end.
I wounder if it's harder for babies to sort out their night from day at this time of year. Mine were both born in summer and seemed to know the difference quite quickly.

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 17:33

Thanks for the duckboards info. Glad you got a nap, Rosa.

So, ladies, for your delectation....

Ahem.

Apparently...

"Love is a desire which wells up from the heart's excess of liking."

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 17:34

Oh, and:

"Last night love entered my dreams... And then it was morning."

WTF?

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 17:36

"Sweet is the dawn which breaks upon lovers."

(not according to Shakespeare it ain't, Signore 'Anonimo'...)

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 17:38

Do you think Baci could be considered healthy because of the nuts?

We all now have DH's man-flu, damn him.

gio71 · 16/12/2008 17:41

Hi all, long time no post, interesting re Next Rosa, I will be on that!
I have had a virus, then a stinking cold and now have a tummy bug!! Spent all day in the bathroom , feeling very sorry for myself. Must be very run down I think as am never normally ill.
WIll have a read back and see what have missed and try and come and say hi more often

Sputnik · 16/12/2008 17:45

I see your Italian is progressing in leaps and bounds Penthe!
Hi Gio

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 17:48

Poor gio.

I wish, Sputnik... But the wrappers come with an English translation. Was going to put Italian, but am too lazy to add accents.

francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2008 20:03

"Last night love entered my dreams... And then it was morning." lol lol lol , thank you Penthe.
Of course baci perugina are healthy, how could you doubt it ?

Gio, sorry to hear about all the viruses you are getting. I'm dreading already the next bout of stomach bug. Last year I spent a whole night vomiting every hour. I feel your pain! I also recommend Wessen zinc Ace capsules (on sale at dear old boots)

Rosa, glad you manage a nice nap . I'm going to work on thurs and friday morning. I hope it'll be busier than last week (I worked on the morning it was snowing and no one was around

It's been raining all day, but really pouring down . Took ds (walking and on the tram) to swimming lessons, backpack got soaked and my mobile has now died because of it

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2008 20:04

(zinc ace for the immune system)

OP posts:
hothell · 16/12/2008 20:12

open the mobile and leave it to dry - mine eventually worked.
is there any food that contains zinc?
very cold in london, but no snow on the horizon.
90p to the euro! very depressing from my point of view, i guess you are all happy you who are in italy!
pippi did you know they are showing montalbano on bbc 4 every week? with subtitles? never watched it, but i will, is it any good do you girls in italy know? have never read the books either..
