Benvenuti, ciao hello

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 12/12/2008 19:27

MY Dh falls asleep as soon as he is home from work , even with the children jumping on him.

or shall I say EVERY Dh falls asleep as soon as he is home from work , even with the children jumping on him.

Dh at home and better, very helpful (once when he shouldn't) and caring. He probably thought a lot about his family.

I want an Henry!

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 20:01

That's great Pippi. Does he get to stay at home and rest a bit?

Rosa · 12/12/2008 20:46

Oh dear Rosa peeks out from behind the divano - she has just been wrapping 'The Doll' and its a baby Alive eeek so sorry Brange ( as I have been insulting it ) I pressed its bracelet and it said Ciao Mamma, Ho fame and blinked at me 3 times. I will have nightmares - or maybe I am just a lightweight and need bringing out of my shell
My Christmas tree cake ( school version ) is a flat one and I cut out the shape of the tree and cover in apricot jam to make the icing stick then use royal icing - Or very thin butter icing ( green , and red for the bucket)and then use silver balls, and the entire haribo collection cut into bits. In the past I have made cake /icing parcels but they take ages so might do some mini chocolate moulds.
British Xmas Cake is Sooooooo easy peasy . But get your fruit soaking NOW - I usually have mine soaked from November . I use Brandy or Rum and it tends to be mainly raisins as you can't get lots of different types of currants / sultanas/candied peel. Then you sort of add the rest of the stuff - stir and then blow your electric bill as it sits in the oven for 4 hrs. I then usually add more rum on a weekly basis. Panic when I have not iced it in time and eat at anyway as is ! My sister bought me a Coop one this year. Also bought me mince pies but not too keen on them. I have a jar of mincemeat but doubt I will get them done. Pity as dd loves the mini ones.
Glad my dh is not the only one affected by The essential need to nap after lunch and to have lie ins as he is stanco !Do you also find that you sacrifice things like hair appointments and ' you things' as something important crops up with his work or whatever? As I seem to be doing that rather alot
I am sitting here with cuffie on listening to the songs and dh is laughing as I do the actions and he can't hear the songs

Brangelina · 12/12/2008 21:14

OMG we have the same doll! I hate it too, I'm already having nightmares about it wielding weapons and creeping out at night but DP liked it and there wasn't a lot of choice on the poo front.

Re Christmas cake, that's what I thought about the non availability of mixed dried fruit. I do need some cherries though, I love my cherries. I hadn't thought about all tha soaking in alcohol. Damn, I only have vodka (bottles of the stuff left over from my party days). I'm not going to bother icing it, I actually prefer it without. Mince pies - yuk! The only English Christmas foods I like are the cake and brussels sprouts, plus maybe the odd mini pudding.

Yes, DP had a phase of "important" things "croppiing up" just when I'd arranged something else. Usually it was something to do with his DS/arrangements he'd made with his ex without telling me because he thought I wouldn't be doing anything anyway. Luckily he seems to have stopped.

Glad DH is home Pippi. How long is he convalescing for? Make the most of him being all helpful and nice, it might not last long. Actually, use this period to extort promises ut of him for things you want (I am a cynical cow aren't I).

What's a Henry?

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 21:45

I have to admit my DH actually lets me have lie ins quite often. He has just been putting DS to sleep, and fell asleep before DS did.

ChristmasFlower · 12/12/2008 21:55

PIppi - great news! DDs must be so happy too!

Sputnik - at night we take it turn to go and settle DD, normally it's a matter of going in, put dummy back in, soft toy close to her face, and out- at least when I do it. DP goes in, does the same, lies in bed "to make sure she's asleep", then I go up and he's asleep in bed...

what's this doll then? My niece has the Cicciobello Bua, DS was playing with it in the summer and you have to go through all these things to "make it better" cos if you don't the cheecks stay red and batteries go flat quickly. One of the things you might have to do is give him an injection in it's bum - DS (just under 4 at the time) got so crossed with my mum cos "she was hurting the baby" and screamed in horror every time we had to do it...

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/12/2008 22:06

is my dd the only girl who does not play with dolls?

henry is a hoover, how sad can I be?

Brangelina · 12/12/2008 22:10

That Cicciobello Bua sounds impegnativo... better to have the vet kit with my cats as patients, no batteries to buy.

this is the Baby alive we got DD and at it being more expensive online! We bought it from Toys yesterday and it was 59 euros, not 69. Not of special offer either. How weird.

I try to get DP to put DD to bed but alas she'll have none of it. He used to get up at weekends and take her for a capuccino and brioche while I slept, but that seems to have evaporated along with the warm weather....

ChristmasFlower · 12/12/2008 22:12

oh, but a very faithful hoover... poor thing, the motor has gone but picking up replacement tomorrow, so happy, it has seen us through house renovation for the last 6 years (will it ever be finished?), so it's part of the family now!

Brangelina · 12/12/2008 22:18

Pippi, you are lucky your DD doesn't like dolls. We are infested with a variety of dolls at the moment, mainly ones with strange attributes (one where you rub its teeth and it says Mamma, another that cries when you take the dummy out etc. etc.). And to think, I was more an Action Man girlie myself. DD must take after DP, apparently his DS was also very much into dolls. It must be his side of the family.

ChristmasFlower · 12/12/2008 22:28

well, my dolls weren't so sophisticated but a lot nicer... niece's fav doll is one of my sister's, just a plain supermarket soft body one, ti must be over 20 yrs old (I have an identical one, but all my dolls are in my bedroom - no-one's allowed near them unless I'm there... sad, but I was a real doll girl, and really enjoyed them, though also liked building stuff with wood etc)

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 22:34

My DD isn't into dolls either. The neighbour gave her a barbie-alike and the only time she played with it was to bury it in the earth of a plant pot.

I sometimes wonder if it's my fault for not giving her any, so the other day I asked her what she thought of the idea of a doll like a baby that pooed and you could change its nappy etc. She looked at me as if I was crazy and said "it should go on the toilet mummy".

I never liked baby type dolls either, but later on I did play with children shaped dolls IYSWIM.

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 22:37

She does play alot with teddies, animals etc.

DS at the docs the other day was playing with a toy pushchair, but chucked the doll out first. I tried putting it back but he wasn't having it!

Brangelina · 12/12/2008 22:43

I di try not to buy her dolls and suchlike, she was quite happy playing with her trainset and was very into bulldozers. However, DP had other plans, he was insistent that DD had to have a doll and very excitedly took her down to the local hypermarket to get her one. It has all gone downhill from there.

I think DP secretly loves dolls and was thwarted in his childhood when trying to play wih his sister's. You should have seen him in the doll aisle at Toys yesterday. He was getting quite squeaky. Oh, if only I knew this before getting involved with him.

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/12/2008 08:49

LOL at brange's dp and doll fetish!

we've ordered a henry. don;t know why I am so excited as I'll never use it . maybe it's the smiley face.

Rosa · 13/12/2008 14:21

I have lots of cherries . I also have a xmas pudding but I love mincepies. My mum makes them with orange juice in the pastry and sometimes a dollop of creme fraiche under the lid!
The Baby alive we have is similar but with a potty it has a bit longer hair but it is from the same horror family as it has thesame huge eyes. DD has 3 dolls. 1 we gave her when dd2 born pretty simple it came witha rucksack and she likes that more. A Carolle doll that a friend gave her - she reads stories to that one and take sit clothes off and the Boris a cheapo plastic doll that pops out of teh wood work . SHe has a garage and lego for christmas from us and I am betting she plays with that more!
I have a dyson - pull along one with a turbo spazzola- It is great and it better last 10 years or I want dh money back !
DH did the nativity scene with dd this am - It has Pocoyo and the Tombliboos in it !!!!!!

My dd has loved dolls since she was 1 (just baby dolls she doesn't play with barbies or the likes). She called her favourite doll George. She is very nurturing and caring. Sometimes she lines all her dolls up and plays nursery school, she like register time in particular.
But she asks me to have a baby at least twice a week

Penthesileia · 13/12/2008 18:51

LOL @ franca's broody DD!

And at some of those scary dolls! I never got the wanting a doll which pee-pees!

My DD is still too little for dolls, but I'm bracing myself for when she wants some scary doll, and I have to say yes (because I have sworn not to be too judgemental of her taste...)...

Ok - OT but - I have an important philosophical, existential, etc. etc. question for everyone...

Who is it who...

chooses the proverbs and quotations for Baci???? I must know.

ChristmasFlower · 13/12/2008 19:26

mmmmmmmmmmm, baci... haven't had one in ages.....

Henry's not fixed, the man who runs the shop only opens 10am-2pm mon-sat, DP went twice this week during lunch break and it was out for 10 mins... and today he'd decided to take the day off!!!!!!!!! I was just fuming!! no cleaning the way I wanted but at least I managed to make ragu'...

those dolls look weird, they remind me of that horror movie I saw when I was little about evil dolls... what's that movie... I loved playing school with my dolls too, I even made a tiny quaderno for each one of them and write in them little stories the dolls were meant to have written as homework (later on in life I did a thesis on the Bronte sisters, maybe that was a sign...)

LOL at nativity scene with POcoyo!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/12/2008 20:06

yes i remember that one with dolls as well, only one scene actually and that was enough.

my dd loves doing the register too... she just done it to me before going to bed.

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/12/2008 20:06

baci, I should know.,...

hothell · 13/12/2008 21:10

It is the movie with the doll called chuckie, no? Cannot believe i saw it at the movies....

Rosa · 14/12/2008 08:57

I so wanted a girls world when I was young . I asked and asked for one and Father Christmas never obliged - I feel that I have missed out on something in life !!!!!
Sun shining perfect to go out this am. But no its bloomin aqua alta predicted at 10.50 . As we are not on the tourst track we are not permitted to have duck boards . I wonder if all teh resudents in my area stopped paying tax they would notice - seeing as we dont get the services of the main tourist areas of the city !
DH has man tummy bug so in bed and I can't do 2 over the aqua to a dry area.
Dd2 fell asleep at 2am but she slept until 7 so I guess I should not complain but if we could just get the say 10 or 11 - 2am bit a bit better organised !!!!!!!

Penthesileia · 14/12/2008 09:12

Morning, Rosa! Are you feeling a bit more rested now?

What's a duck board?

Rosa · 14/12/2008 11:08

Duck board - passarella - raised walkways. Balsically all teh main areas that go under have them and they are put out when there is high water forecast . I do have wellies and would just go out but I thinki ts not safe to have dd2 in a sling in high water unless really urgent that I go out as imagine if I slip with her it could be terrible. Also dd1 has little wellies but again anything more than a puddle is not really wise. Anyway this morning has passed ok minirosa being a pickle using me as a snack bar not a restaurant got to stop this but oh boy can she scream and dd1 hates it so I tend to give in !!!
