Childrens Programmes...which are bad influences

After reading other threads, just wondered if any other mumsnetters out that could tell me what programme and why they thought were bad influences.

I personally do not like tom and jerry, because to me it is violent.

Wondering what else people thought.

I actually detest Bodger and Badger, I saw it once and was horrified, it had a clip of the badger throwing his food around, and the man "bodger" I presume, putting all the dirty clothes on the bed and then tipping anything he could get his hands on, on to the pile. This was on cbeebies, luckily I haven't seen it for ages (thank-god). Lets hope I havent offended any bodger and badger lovers out there.

I have just banned Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow after hearing too many suggestive comments on it. It's on at weekends , don't know what side though.

Agree completely about Tom and Jerry, happydays. Ds has brought it home from the Library on video and I found it terribly violent.

oh and I forgot to mention Zingalong, only because it drives ME nuts and want to pull my own hair out. Does that count that its a bad influence for mummy

My mother banned Grange Hill when we were kids in case we turned into truants/bullies/smokers/any other horror she had read about in the Daily Mail. I cringe during Itchy and Scratchy on The Simpsons - which is the whole point, I guess...

I'm a bit dubious about Power Rangers since there's so much shooting and zapping in it, as well as really horrible-looking monsters, but I'm afraid ds really loves it and there's a whole gang of them at nursery who seem to talk about almost nothing else, so I'm afraid I've caved in. I always felt left out at school when I wasn't allowed to watch things my friends watched and would hate him to feel the same, but I do find it difficult. He also loves Spider Man, which I have the same ambivolence about, but somehow, as it's a cartoon, I can persuade myself it's not so bad.

I don't like Beyblade much, it's all Manga style graphics and seems very aggressive but ds loves it. We won't have Sky from next week though so that's that problem gone. I like Tom & Jerry though, it's one of the few things I will watch with ds. Although there is violence, it's so slapstick and unbelievable I'm not worried about it.

I guess it's an age thing, WWW - ds is a bit younger than your little guy. I adored Tom and Jerry - touche, pussycat - when I was about 7.

Marina, I agree, I don't think I was so keen when he was younger either, they get always seem to get that it's a cartoon.

My 4 year-old loves Tom and Jerry and it's one of my favourites. I think it's obvious to even young children that no-one is actually being hurt. It's been around for decades and I'm sure it didn't cause children to grow up with violent tendencies in the 1940s and won't now! We generally only have CBeebies on or the occasional C5 programme in the morning, but the only thing I've ever remembered switching off is Barney. I absolutely loathe it for its cloying sentimentality and in-your-face moral messages and it's awful squeaky children. It has no charm whatsoever. But I never liked Sesame Street as a child and everyone thinks that's great so maybe I'm odd!

Having recently been thrown into the world of kiddies tv the only programme i personally find dangerous is Noddy - it certainly incites feelings of violence in me anyway!

I'm so with you about Barney, Fionn. I can't stand it - the children, the voices, the dancing, Barney's laugh...nothing nice at all. And FWIW I hated Sesame Street too!

The Simpsons - bad bad bad.

I hate Noddy, and the worst offender has to be 'Out of the Box' on Playhouse Disney - all that American cutesy wholesome smugness has got to hide a rotten core.

But we all love the Simpsons and Tom and Jerry, and dd1 and I laugh like drains at Roadrunner. Am I a bad parent

Barney is definitely the worst! All those kids tanked up on junior prozac is enough to make me scream! Give me good old Tom and Jerry any day.

My two boys ( 5 and 3) are addicted to 'Lord of the Rings' at the moment. It's so weird the things that scare them. Uruk-hai charging up a hill at Aragorn is cool but they can't stand it when Boromir cuts his finger!

It is amazing what children find hard to take. Do you think that it is because they know that they will never be chased up the hill by Uruk-Hai, but they probably will cut a finger?? My pet hate is the Cramp Twins.....loath it and ban it. But Tom and Jerry is great fun, I loved it as a kid, and have never been tempted to hit someone on the head with a frying pan

Yeah, thumbs RIGHT down to Barney for me, too! Whatever can his parents have done to that precocious boy Robert (?) who sings and tap dances like a latterday 1900s music hall host? He'll either grow up to be very, very strange or hideously embarrassed.
Find Bear in the Big Blue House can be a tad cloying, too, though I do like the songs ? often find myself humming "Goodbye, good friends, it's time to gooooo" on my way to work. And had a boyfriend once who looked just like bear.

Daytime tv - particularly on Sky....my daughter managed to use the remote control and flick through our favourites while I was in the room but washing up and not concentrating. I only turned round when I heard her distressed crying - she was watching Sky One showing the X files and a very gruesome scene of crows attacking a woman....I was horrified and felt really guilty.Stupidly I had forgotten the daytime tv on Sky doesn?t have the same restrictions as BBC and ITV....have learnt my lesson now! (I hate Zingalong - my dd loves it.)

Andy Pandy. DD loves it because it has a teddy, which at 15 months is possibly the best thing you could ever see on TV. But my objection is Looby Loo who is just insipid, sulky and always cooking like some twisted version of a 50's housewife. give me Lisa Simpson as a role model any day.

The Tweenies are a terrible influence - it is SOOOOoooo sexist - boisterous boys and 'bossy and sulky' girls - yuk, yuk, yuk.

Ds, who is a bit 'sensitive' at the best of times, loves the cramp twins, ed, edd and eddie, and he loves the slapstick violence in Tom and Jerry.

Did I read that right? Had a boyfriend who looked just like Bear in the big blue house, Frieda? I'm intrigued!

Sad, but true, Hilary. A very nice guy, actually, but he had EXACTLY the same floppy pale ginger hair, sloping shoulders, head movements... it was uncanny. I've pointed out the similarities to several mutual friends, and they all agree.
