Childrens Programmes...which are bad influences

After reading other threads, just wondered if any other mumsnetters out that could tell me what programme and why they thought were bad influences.

I personally do not like tom and jerry, because to me it is violent.

Wondering what else people thought.

OK, the hair wasn't ALL OVER his body!

Hilary · 22/02/2003 19:20

Well I'm relieved about THAT!

Ghosty · 22/02/2003 19:25

I have gone off the teletubbies now as DS tries to copy how they speak ... when he was younger I thought they were great ...
Agree with Tom and Jerry being violent but I personally love them ... Tom and Jerry Kids is better for littlies I think.
I find most of the cartoons on 'Cartoon Network' totally dreadful ... all too much violence IMO!
We don't get CBeebies here but we do get some good pre-school telly in the morning ... I think Blue's Clues is great!! Has anyone heard of Hi-5 or The Wiggles? Both Aussie preschool shows and they are FAB!!

We have a horrendous video called Teddy bear singalong which all 3 children have loved, its sort of sub-sub-Barney, if you can imagine. Truly appalling and I dont know why I havent managed to get rid of it but somehow there was always one of them addicted to it.
Love the Simpsons, Rugrats and Wild Thornberries. Hate anything with stage school children trying desperately hard to be cute

Chiccadum · 22/02/2003 19:33

Yeh Ghosty, we have just discovered Hi-5 and dd1 and dd2 love it, I must admit to quite fancying Nathan.

But, do you agree that with all the fake smiles plastered on their faces for the full duration of the show and with how nicey nicey they are they could be the kids from Barney 'Years gone by'

Ghosty · 22/02/2003 19:45

Oooh, Chiccadum ... I fancy Nathan too ... I really need to get out more !!!!

batey · 22/02/2003 20:33

Have to say I'm not keen on Angelina Ballerina! She's always stropping off, shouting "it's not fair", and in one episode trashes her bedroom. Dds love it however, even though I keep hiding the (given) video!!

MandyD · 22/02/2003 22:37

We love Hi-5. We see it on Living TV here. Speaking of the worst bear-orientated thing, I don't suppose anyone else has suffered Lizzie Webb and Joggy Bear?? Lizzie Webb used to present an aerobics workout in the early days of GMTV I believe, Joggy Bear came from I know not where but they present a keep fit video for kids. Oh it's vile, it was a present from MIL and it dates from the early eighties ie. luminous shell suits and all. Needless to say DS was addicted to it for about six months, non stop

Ghosty - an Aussie friend bought a Wiggles video for our 2 year old two years ago and it's still a favourite for him and his 2 year-old brother. I think the standard of singing and dancing is great and it's very good to watch. I particularly like the championing of "fruit salad" and stuff in the Food song! I hear they're all heart throbs in Oz!

batey · 23/02/2003 07:11

We have The Wiggles too! Wouldn't say they're a bad influence though except to me as I end up singing "quack quack cock a doodle doo" all day!! Dd1 particularly likes Geoff, or "Jiff" in our house!

Ghosty · 27/02/2003 06:23

I took DS to see The Wiggles live in concert in Auckland last year!!!!! I have to say it was the most hysterical thing I have ever been to.
An auditorium full of preschoolers (about 2000 of them) all dancing and singing along to these 4 fully grown men prancing about on the stage ... what was even funnier was that they (The Wiggles) kept cracking up ... 'in' jokes and stuff ... they were having a great time. I had a brilliant time but needless to say my pet lamb was terrified and we had to leave early!!! (see thread on over sensitive toddlers!)
They were a pop band that didn't go anywhere years ago and thought they would target toddlers ... now they are 'gazillionnaires'! Good on them ... they are very watchable and PC and I love them ... don't fancy them though - not like Nathan! Next year when Hi-5 come to NZ I am getting a front row seat and leaving DS at home!!!

I agree the Wiggles are great... and it's hysterical how much fun they seem to be having. The songs are way too catchy though and I'm forever finding myself humming the tunes at work... very professional. Glad to hear they are good in concert Ghosty. We are going in March with dd to see them on their Asia tour... dh is coming too, since he has a crush on the woman who is inside the Dorothy costume our Wiggly party video... sad isn't it? :D

sjs · 27/02/2003 14:51

Meant to do a grinning face there but it didn't work... how do you do the grins?

SoupDragon · 27/02/2003 15:18

You need a capital O rather than the D.

Pleased to see DS2 hammering the TV screen with a stick when Zingalong with Zing was on this morning - that boy has taste. At least I think it was hatred he was hammering with...

SoupDragon · 28/03/2003 22:08

Had to resurrect this as I had the misfortune to be subjected to the Wiggles on Playhouse Disney whilst on holiday. They are awful!! I simply can't find the words to describe how much I hated them

Someone please tell me how I can get the Hot Potato song out of my head? I'm thinking of hurling myself from the roof of the house.
