the rain is heavy and hard, and the road now looks like a river, but the worst is that DH just shouted to me to come look out the back door........the rain is lapping the bottom of the door

and there is a leak in the kitchen......

have you any sandbags? think the fire service can get you some. also move upstairs everything movable.

the back door is still deep (well, the water is), but not getting deeper.......we have no drainage there tho so not sure on what we will do if it starts heavy again.......

I have just got the batteried toys in from the conservatory.....longe looks like a bomb site!

and the kitchen has many pans catching the water. it is coming in thro the vent from the boiler..........worrying tho that the pilot light will go out and leave us without heating (well, not cold and needing heating yet, but it still does the water)

Pyschomum - theres potentially a fair bit more of heavy rain to come. Can you make sand bags - sandpit sand and carrier bags work pretty wellput a sheet of plastic down first - then load the bags against it two deep. If it looks really really urgent garden soil will do trick.

If pilot light does go out is it sensible to turn off gas - I dunno. Consider turning electrics off if theres a risk of it getting into boiler (don't know how boilers work!)

ok, rains is less hard, the pouring has slowed to dripping (the pouring thro in the kitchen that is).

worrying about all the toys still in the conservatory........and hoping like hell the planning comes soon for the extension now and clearly nothing is actually safe out there any more!

flame, boxes will be needed super quick now me thinks, so as to start perserving all I can......

oooh....should I ring gas company to ask advice on boiler now do you reckon. if harder rain is on its way, I am not sure it will cope.

DH is off to his mates now, while the rain is a little slower, for something to protect the back door. thankgoodness they both builders.....

Met office have a warning out in your area for up 15- 25mm rain in 3 hours. expires midnight.

Psycho, we are about 7 miles inland from you. If it helps at all, the deluge we have just has has now stopped, hopefully it will ease up by you very soon.

Hope it stops soon but, just in case -

Get an emergency box together NOW. Off the top of my head:

Torch, any important medicines, insurance documents, fully charge mobile phone, bottled water.

Get everything small that is at floor level moved asap. Unplug electrical items (assuming sockets are at skirting level) and make sure wires are not trailing.

Start stacking furniture that could be damaged by water.

If water does start coming in (and watch out for it coming up through carpets - under the house fills up and then it suddenly breaches the floorboards), turn off the electricity at the mains.
Sorry to sound gloomy but after last year and what I went through...

Good plan. The sky is much brighter now than it was. We drove back from swimming in it, the drains have given up and the roads were flooding up here. I haven't seen so much come down in such a short time before.
