the rain is heavy and hard, and the road now looks like a river, but the worst is that DH just shouted to me to come look out the back door........the rain is lapping the bottom of the door

and there is a leak in the kitchen......

oh for F sake.

rang the emergnacy gas line, and he said I need someone to come out, so gave me british gas main customer care line who has a stupid disembodied voice giving me bill options or name change options.

am in too much of a tizz to work that out, so who next to ring???

((the emergancy line deem this not enough of an emergancy to care, but enough to tell me to get someone out))

oh god psycho i hope the rain stops! its showing no signs of slowing here but luckily we are not near any water sources but i do worry about what will happen when we move near the beck! dh assures me everything is fine but im not so sure.

his friend is a gas fitter when he gets back from shop ill get him to ring him and see what you should do/who you should phone.

SaintGeorge · 05/09/2008 19:05

Yellow pages, local plumber, corgi registered to look at the boiler.

Unless you have BG boiler cover or something in which case I haven't a clue who you are supposed to call.

psychomum5 · 05/09/2008 19:13

ok, photo albums are up high.

have meds upstairs, no torch as yet but they are with the scout stuff that the girls know where they are, so once they are back from dancing I will have those.

mobile is on charge, and have a £5 voucher in my purse as an emergency.....will top up if needed as this is classed as such!

DH is getting sandbags sorted at mates, or similar.....depends what they have....we have bricks handy here to help with whatever needs help.

have not done plugs as yet (well, some, not all), as not wanting to lose internet until needed.

water has gone down by back door right now, but there is still enough covering to not see the patio tiles there......am hoping we are passed the worst.

will go hunt yellow pages for a number about the boiler now......

for the moment.

just spoken to a very nice corgi man who lives very near me. he has said that as long as the pilot light is lit, don;t panic. just continue what I am doing. he seems to think it is just a bad combination of the wind direction and the rain that made it come in thro the flue, and it is then pouring down onto the kitchen work surfaces.

he did say to ring transco tho in the morning to tell me the closest boiler person to come and check all is ok, but in the meantime, if the rain comes heavier turn of the boiler and we should be fine.

the electrics tho is another matter......he said is it comes hevier, switch all off at the flicker switch thing and rely on torches for the night.

((not too scared now after that comment))

the rain has slowed tho..........keep fingers crossed for me that it is going to stop and I can panic lesss........

oh, and emergancy kit now contains wine.....

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 05/09/2008 19:43

(relish will mess up the flavour of the wine )

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 05/09/2008 19:59

sorry we cant get in touch with gas fitter but dh seems to think that if you just turn off the boiler no gas will be going to it anyway so you will be fine

ah but now i see you have already spoke to some one

really hope its stops.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2008 20:19

hows it going psycho? Am west of you and its really going for it now.

psychomum5 · 05/09/2008 20:27

did stop, then came back hard hard hard!!!

now ordering a chinese however......I might be panicked but DH thinks we have taken all neccessary precautions and can have a take-away instead

Merlin · 05/09/2008 20:34

Hope all is OK - it really has been tipping it down. Came out of the Village after DS1's swimming lesson around 6.30pm and we had to wade to the car through about a foot of water in the car park!!!

psychomum5 · 05/09/2008 20:46

hey merlin

it is better than it was ((or the wine has stopped me caring))

back garden now less flood-like, but then, it is dark, what do I know!!

the conservatory is still dripping

and the bowls int he kitchen are on their fourth filling up....

but, the rain is not as bad, so.............

fingers crossed.

Rained all day here as well in Blandford, it was so loud before we turned the TV up! I am a bit nervous as there is just a field between us and the Stour but apparantly we are OK. DD is in the carnival tomorrow and I think she is going to get soaked.

twinsetandpearls · 06/09/2008 00:48

psychomum we go to Bournemouth every Friday evening, this is the first time we decided to give it a miss.

psychomum5 · 06/09/2008 09:45

twinset, we will have to meet up at some point.

wow for the carnival, DD must be very excited, altho we rian has started up again here already.

luckily, (and obviously), we have not floated away in the night, so hoping now that the danger is over.

have toys to clean tho before they go mouldy.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/09/2008 10:53

Hi pyscho
shouldnt be as bad today for you I think. Hope the damage isnt too awful and so can sort it out easily.
Am glad you didnt float away!

MadameOvary · 06/09/2008 10:56

Have been following your thread - glad all okay!

psychomum5 · 06/09/2008 11:00

thankyou. the damage inside the actual house is fine. we mopped up the water in the kitchen and caught lots in many bowls. boiler seems fine today, we have hot water at least. I may however book a check-up for said boiler tho before the need for heating comes.

the toys however, not sure about. but having said that, they have so many, a few damaged ones won;t hurt. I am going to be going thro them all next week tho ready for boxing up and passing on.......they have outgrown so many now and we are going to be replacing the conservatory soon anyway so need most stuff gone.

am hoping that the sodden garden tho does not start flooding again with the current rain. not sure it can hold much more, even if it is not as heavy today!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/09/2008 11:03

Thats a huge phew!! Fingers crossed for you. Looking at the radar it looks like heavy showers rather than steady rain so I hope they fade out for you quickly.
