Sleepless night fretting about T and loos and lunches at big school - how neurotic am I ?!

OP posts:
hippipotami · 21/11/2008 15:47

He is eating me out of house and home But still a bit pale and headachy.

Popped into his school after collecting E, to collect his weekend homework - lovely teacher looked at me like I had two heads

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2008 16:28

arf !! that's exactly what I'd do hippi

OP posts:
hotcrossbunny · 21/11/2008 16:29

Oh no! Poor O And you....it's scary to get a phonecall like that. Dh (the first aider in the family) says just watch him for a few hours, and any worries, a wee trip to A & E... But I'm sure you know that already! Big to the Hippi household. As MAS says, eating is a v good sign

Have been in school this morning collating orders fro shopping bags. All seemed to go smoothly, but one teacher was not at all helpful and wouldn't let us put them in bookbags As a result, there were 2 mix ups, with no bags going home.... This particular teacher is always the one who looks miserable, and doesn't do anything terribly exciting with her class. I'm praying B doesn't get her next year!

Right off to have a quick cuppa.

hotcrossbunny · 21/11/2008 16:30

I didn't see anything wrong in collecting O's homework either

hippipotami · 21/11/2008 17:07

Thanks hotcross
He seems absolutely fine - has some colour back in his cheeks now, and tells me his headache is not so bad now

I was too - but I was worried that if he did not do the weekend homework over the weekend (it is usually a biggie like an essay or some research) he would have to do it over the following week. But that week is horrendously busy with 3 rehearsals until 5.30 for the play....
So I was merely planning ahead but lovely teacher found it all rather amusing

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2008 18:59

collating shopping bags ? what's that all about then ?
T had a good swim today -200m non stop first of all...then all the usual lesson.
On the way home he tells me that he lent 20p to the boy -AGAIN ! after not being paid back twice !! I was very cross and a stern lecture ensued - I think it got through - I told him that it was my money and that I wasn't earning anything and to think of me,if nothing else..also went on about responsibility and being able to say 'no' to someone. I could throttle this boy.
Hope O is feeling much better.

Morning

It's soooooo cold Have walked the dog at double quick speed to try to keep warmish.

Hope you had good weekends? How's O, hippi? MAS - bless T for being so too generous. It's a worry, isn't it? Hope your talking to works.

We had a lovely weekend. Saturday we took part in a climate change film for a friend of ours. We had to play parachute games and sing 'You've got the whole world in your hands' It got a bit tedious after the 15th take, but it's all exciting stuff! Hopefully we'll be emailed a copy.

Sunday we made the Christmas Puddings They smell fab and the whole house has a spicy Christmassy smell. Yum. Am going to tackle mincemeat this week....

Oh, the bags... Well me and a friend were responsible for sourcing calico shopping bags for a school fundraiser. They arrived last week, so we had to put them in bookbags on Friday. They've done really well. We ordered 200 and about 175 have already sold, and orders are still coming in. Profit will hopefully be nearly £500!

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/11/2008 11:38

it is chilly !!!
How exciting to be in a film !!
Was B in it too ?
Am very envious of your homemade Christmas puddings - I love, love ,love C Pudding -my MIL used to make them every year, and Christmas cake, but has retired from that task. She does buy a nice one and puts in real sixpences. My mum makes awesome brandy butter for hers ! Am not so keen on a mince pie, though of course will eat one if offered !
Just back from dentist - 2 fillings - bit numb but ok..£89.

Hello

It is freezing.... feel guilty, have not yet taken dilldog for a walk...
Will take him when I collect O later

Film sounds fab hotcross, how exciting!

Am trying to get the house tidy today, but am struggeling with motivation....

hotcrossbunny · 24/11/2008 20:11

Hello. Am just on here to confess what a mean mummy I am. I think I've even managed to shock myself

We got in late from music, so had knee tea as a treat. Brisket done in the slow cooker. B fiddled about with her tea, poking and prodding at it, screwing up her nose at it etc. The final straw came when she asked me to help. I scooped up a mixture of potato, meat and carrot, with a tiny scrap of the tomatoey sauce, offered it to her and she tried to remove some carrot. This promptly dropped onto my cream scarf and I lost it.

I've threatened a huge number of times, that if her table manners don't improve I'll feed her on the floor with the dog. Well tonight I did. I took it though to the kitchen and plonked it onto the floor next to doggles bowl and told her to get on with it! And she did!!!

She's apologised and so have I, no hard feelings or damage done, but I feel very mean Will be interesting to see how her eating is now

Anyway, off to collapse with a cup of tea. Please feel free to tell me off...

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/11/2008 22:25

we wouldn't tell you off hotcross ! I am always criticising T's manners - he is terribly messy and often abandons forks/knives to shovel around with his hands - appalling ! and he's much older than Miss B

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 25/11/2008 17:38

are you feeling less stressed hotcross ?

OP posts:
hippipotami · 25/11/2008 17:49

Oh hotcross, don't worry! I may end up doing the same. O is not too bad, but E eats with her fingers given half a chance. I have lost count the number of times I have had to shout FORK!!! at her during a meal...

May try the dog trick, it may make her think...

Hope you are okay?

Had a lovely day. My friend K and I were going to go swimming, but when we got there the pool was closed for repairs. So we came to my house, had coffee and apple pie and then decided to take dillydog onto Horsell Common. We walked and chatted for nearly an hour before going back to mine for more coffee and applie pie

After school big S had a football match (he plays for the school, as well as the local town team and for the distric team) and K wanted to watch, so little S came here for a play. T'was lovely!

Lovely day

hotcrossbunny · 25/11/2008 20:50

Am about the apple pie! Sounds like my kind of day!

Think B has forgiven me, and she certainly ate with less fuss tonight. Maybe because she liked everything on her plate though...and it was finger food. Will see when we go for tea at a friend's tomorrow night Glad she's not alone in being a pain though!

Dh now has a 'boot' to wear. A big plastic space age thing, which he can take off occasiionally. He seems happy with it so far. He's able to begin weightbearing, so hopefully will be able to help a bit more around here Will believe it when I see it though.

Am going to the PTA chair's house tomorrow to sort out Christmas Fair stuff. I'm fully immersed

hippipotami · 26/11/2008 08:05

Oh the apple pie was yum, it was my mum's old recipe, she would make this pie several times a year throughout my childhood, I have very fond memories of it

Our friends have 3 apple trees and thus more apples they will ever eat, so they give us a bag every now and then, which alwasy gets used immediately! E wants her own apple tree, but I doubt a little one will bear fruit straight away...

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/11/2008 12:03

your apple pie and coffee and lovely time with your friend sounded heavenly hippi- what a nice day - I could imagine you all cosy and snug with those yummy things.
hotcross - my friend S had the inflatable boot for about 4 weeks after her injury (aka the Buzz Lightyear boot) - she is now free of it and very happy to be able to drive and walk normally, though her foot still very weak.
Have a had very nice morning - T went off to his pupil evaluation meeting with his tutor - was back almost before he went and said it was fine - his goals are to get better at maths and to socialise more at breaktimes and the printed interim report says he is doing fine generally and his attitude in music and geography is graded as 1 which is highest score - so am very pleased for him.
We now have afternoon to ourselves. My old friend came to coffee too and it was really lovely to see her - we don't do it very often, despite not living too far away from each other - she has 5 children,so her time is taken up with family stuff..will definitely make it more frequent though.

OP posts:
hotcrossbunny · 26/11/2008 12:27

We want apple trees too, hippi. I think you may well get a couple of apples in the first year!

That sounds encouraging about the foot MAS. It's certainly progress to begin weight bearing, but the consultant kept stressing its a 6 month injury - I guess to stop dh going mad!

Have been sorting out secret shopping pressies for school christmas fair, and am now exhausted. We're off to tea at a friend's tonight, so I may well bring in fish and chips for dh! I really can't face cooking.

Great news about T! It sounds like he's really beginning to settle in. You must be relieved?

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/11/2008 17:09

yes,I think I am..I do worry from time to time about the friendships thing and socialising but all in all he seems to have adapted pretty well and the school work seems fine - as long as he stops giving away his cash I think I'm happy
He wanted to buy chestnuts and lychees today but I said they were expensive, however I did treat him to a chocolate doughnut thing and a frappaccino from Starbucks and some shelled walnuts (phew, healthy !) - he also bought himself a sparkly bird decoration.

Hellooooooo! Is anyone there to celebrate with me??? Our car just passed its MOT

We were soooooo worried and have put off having the heating fixed, just incase the car cost huge amounts to keep running. Thank goodness, can stop crossing fingers and other parts of me now!

Tonight is the first night for ages that we'll come home from school and it'll just be us, no running around going to things etc etc. I'm actually looking forward to just spending time with B She has a drawing to do for a colouring comp that needs handing in tomorrow, and then we may just snuggle on the sofa watching TV. Bliss!

Hope you're having a good day. BTW, are we still going to try for a pre-Christmas coffee?

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2008 11:03

hooray !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a pre Christmas coffee sounds nice - when were you thinking ?

OP posts:
Kelix · 27/11/2008 11:10

hotcrossbunny - I will celebrate with you

Our car went in this morning, so I also have everything crossed (is difficult to type with crossed fingers) They said they will ring us and let us know how much its going to cost - am hoping for a mirical, want them to ring and say its passed with flying colours but as our car is 14 years old I really doubt it

Oh well cant go out so looks like Im stuck on MN all day - sometimes life is hard lol

hotcrossbunny · 27/11/2008 11:21

Hi Kelix. Am crossing my fingers for you too (will ignore the cramp from keeping them crossed for days already!) Your dd is gorgeous

Hi MAS. When is best for you? Sometime between 8th - 15th Dec is best for me. Am def free Mon 8th, Thurs 11th, Fri 12th, Mon 15th... Any good?

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2008 11:24

monday 15th might be ok ! shall we see what hippi says ?
Do you mean you need your house heating fixed btw, or was it car heating ?

OP posts:
hotcrossbunny · 27/11/2008 11:27

Sounds good!

It's the house heating. We have warm radiators upstairs, but nothing downstairs. I think it's just a very old system blocked up. Amazing how you get used to being cold

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/11/2008 11:39

brrr, poor you....
