I honestly think maybe it's better in Mumsnets hands or left alone and all contact avoided.

fair enough, but I do feel as a woman that we need to protect our selves etc.. (sayin that thou i'm rather paranoid etc.. about meetin up with ppl I don't know and am rather sceptical. at least you didn't give away any personal info YG, if he's lonely etc.. why not suggest he meets DH - or was he that weird?

oh right, try saying poiletly then, you know thanks but in retrospect I think it's best we don't meet at this stage, or words to that effect and see what happens. Def go with your gut feeling as someone else said (sorry can't remeber who).

If he is genuine - why didn't he say 'Hi, I'm a single DAD in blah blah .....' In his first post on the Wakefield thread??

Go with your gut instinct, he may well be genuine but at the end of the day, you have to put yourself and your LO's first in this situation.

munnzieb · 28/01/2005 23:04

well that seems fair enough, if he's genuine he must understand your reasoning surely.

I know you have just gone to bed YG but let us know if he e-mails you back.

wonder if he will reply YG?

Report
lou33 · 28/01/2005 23:08

wasn't saying you or anyone had been hostile, just that maybe his interpretation might be that. But like i said you are right not to go if you feel uncomfortable, and the email you have sent seems fair enough.

no not really. Most dads are in relationships. There are a couple.

anything yet YG?

Yorkie,

This guy may be completely genuine, possibly he has even posted before under a different name, and lots of people use different e-mails to avoid spam...

If he is new to MN, perhaps you could suggest he spends some more time building up relationships with other MNers on the boards, post about his situation, introduce himself etc., and then if you wanted to meet up, I would suggest definitely meeting up with other mums or DHs in tow.

However, the fact that you say his e-mails are strange, and the fact that the only posts on MN with this username were three within a few minutes of each other last week, with no intro, no profile, no first foray posts into any parenting topics etc. raises eyebrows to say the least.

If I were you I would certainly not meet up without a lot more information being shared and without others present. There appears to be enough MNers in / around Wakefield to enable a secure meet.

Oh dear. I think I'd be a bit suspicious of anyone who didn't admit to being a bloke straight away. And you say his emails were weird, hmm. Well, if he is genuine he'll see this and post a decent explanation won't he? Bet he doesn't though. Yet another reminder that the www can be a strange place

I think it's a bit suspicious. If he is a genuine, lonely single dad, such a pity he did not say sooner.

He offered you a lift in his car? Even if he is genuine that's a very naive thing to do, knowing from your point of view, he is strange man off the internet.

Are you going to change the meet up venue if you don't want him to come along? I'd be tempted to email others offline and do this. Everyone could be jumping to the wrong conclusions, of course, but if he is a wierdo, you don't want him secretly lurking at a neighbouring restrauant table when you have your meetup.
