Well he came clean as soon as it came to an email, YG - give the guy a chance!

Yes he should have said he was a dad from the start, but he probably didn't know there are dads on here...maybe you could arrange to meet him with DH along, or else with a couple of others - poor guy may be desperate for company?

Report
munnzieb · 28/01/2005 22:51

what's your DH's view on the topic?

Report
JanH · 28/01/2005 22:52

Oh, sorry, just read that was not his first email...why not email him back and tell him you are a bit pissed off that he didn't tell you before? Still think you should give him a chance...

I honestly think maybe it's better in Mumsnets hands or left alone and all contact avoided.

did he ever say at any point that he was a woman? Or did you just assume that?

Report
galaxy · 28/01/2005 22:53

This sounds very suss to me and I would most definitely not give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think though that it is likely that this person normally posts under a different name and has been following the meetup thread. Please get Mumsnet to look at the ISP that he posts from and check that IAMALONE is his only user name here.

YG - I feel really sick about this. Are you OK?

I also feel that you are extremely streetwise in a way that a lot of MN (like me for example) aren't. Perhaps if you'd not exchanged so many e-mails you'd not have found out he was a bloke before you'd exchanged addresses.

munnzieb · 28/01/2005 22:56

it's implied he's a woman in his post I think by sayin where mums can chat, and he wanted to meet other mums, Would MN look into the whole IP address thingy?

that doesn't actually say that he is calling himself a woman though, maybe he just wanted tom eet mums with kids cos single dads are not that common on the whole?

I'd go with your gut instinct, which is to back off (I have a horrible feeling in my stomach just reading this).

Or you could email him back, say you aren't completely comfortable meeting a bloke on your own (albeit in a public place), could DH come along too (as has been suggested), and then if HE makes excuses ... well you will know for sure he wasn't genuine.
