Ciao , Hello , Welcome .

OP posts:
Rosa · 03/07/2008 15:24

I am not going to bother with citizenship as I don't think that it will make any difference to me - but I will encourage both dds to get dual passports etc ...just incase you never know.
DD had the odd poo explosion but nothing as huge as you have described but she was pretty regular !!!
Brange u doing washing ??? Its clouding over.
DO you think its pushing it to turn up in the Uk with a case full of ironing ??- I have washed the stuff from the mountains but I fell asleep on the sofa instead of ironing its got really humid again. DD after nap is about to go in a shower poor thing. ( don't tell nonna dd is naked )

I wouldn't bother but our lawyer, whose wife happens to be British, says I ought to. Ironing, what's that?
Super pointless if it's just going in the case anyway. Then when you get to the UK you can use the iron to keep warm

PippiCalzelunghe · 03/07/2008 21:31

I cannot believe you need permesso di soggiorno!
I have dual citizenship. I have applied for naturalisation and got it. I thought - you never know. if nothing else having two passport means I do not have to go to the consolato which is an experience in itself.
I think you all should, just in case. Mind you when I did it it costed me 120 pound, now it's 600 !!!

gio71 · 03/07/2008 21:37

have your dcs all got 2 passports? ds has an Italian one so far. Cost has put me off getting British one,is that really cheap of me??

Rosa · 04/07/2008 07:33

GIO DD only has an Italian carta thingy vailid until she is 5 - After the shock of having her birth registered via the consulate and the cost i decided to wait until she is bigger to get a passport for her. Also will try and apply via the Uk as it works out cheaper.
I don't think I could cope with the carte , bolle, and everything to go with becoming an Italian citizen it is bound to be stupidly complicated.
I did only a bit of the ironing at 6.30am feel a bit guilty turning up with a full case load..Plus I have so few clothes that I need to be semi presentable ish at least for 24 hrs after arrival !!How I will get packed and sorted by this time domani will be a miracle !

Gio, I'm the same as Rosa, DD has an Italian birth cert card thing she can use of travelling in the EU and I keep putting off the UK passport. The trouble is, the more I put it off the more expensive it gets. I was going to do it at 6mo and it was bloody expensive so I thought I'd wait until she had grown into a face (ie not baby any more) and the next time I looked it had gone up by something like 30 euros. The forms are filled out, I've just got to get my act together and get some proper photos done (the photo thing has become terribly complicated). I didn't bother registering her birth at the consulate either as it was extortionate - I saw the price and my milk nearly dried up with the shock.

Rosa, I agree with Sputnik, why iron if it has to go in a suitcase? Unless you have the perfect folding gene that my mother has and things look more ironed after they've been in the case. Alas the gene didn't get passed on to me. For the journey just wear lycra and let the bump stretch out all the wrinkles.

Brangelina · 04/07/2008 09:01

Rosa, I don't think you can apply for a first passport via the UK unless you had DD's birth registered at the consulate. With the Italian birth certificate you can only apply in Italy, apparently. Or so I was told last time I was in the UK. I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong, so if you find out differently let me know.

Sputnik · 04/07/2008 09:54

My DD has British birth certificate and passport, DS has an Italian passport as it worked out cheaper and quicker, we were in a hurry at the time. I will sort him out a birth certificate and passport at sometime, when I'm feeling rich and when he's no longer a baby. DD's has a photo of her at 9 months, it looks nothing like her and everyone who sees it laughs as she was super blubbery.

Rosa · 04/07/2008 12:40

I think that as long as she has a british birth certificate then you can apply for a passport in the UK as long as you use a Uk postal address. When I mentuon to dh about even thinking about registering No2 he makes that only if you insist as it is so bloody expensive face !
Oh went back this am with permesso- they asked for my passport needless to say I said no way hose As the Uk is not properly in Europe WHAT said I ? Don't even go that way please..... Then I was told that the permesso is in fact totally invalid now and I need a carta di regolarita that the sportello adjacent gives - well why the f* did you not tell me that yesterday so I could not have wasted yours and my time and all these people in the queue?..'Ah well that costs Eu14.45'. 'but I need one anyway ?'. Well non ho tempo ora cosi ti faccio la carta ..valida per 10 anni ' Oh Grazie you wonderful stupid man ' - after I had it in my hand I added - So you have given me a carta valido x 10 anni based on a permesso di soggiorno that is no longer in use and it expires before by carta d'identia- does - This is a perfect example of Italian paperpushing time wasting etc etc .
And I got a few hear hears from the queue as well !!!!!!

Blimey Rosa, that's a perfect example of incompetent official making it up as he's going along. At the comune too they're infested with these people. I used to print stuff off the comune website as back up and bring it in and get told that what's on the website isn't true...

For the record, you don't have to pay anything to get the permesso and the carta is valid a lifetime. Policemen was talking aout of his ample bottom!

so you did register your DD after all then? I never bothered, so DD doesn't have a Brit birth cert.

Rosa · 04/07/2008 17:20

yes dd does have a british birth certificate purely just incase ..you never know.
Oh its warm again !!!
Thrown literally stuff in the case now trying to shove in bits !!!

Have a good trip Rosa

Brangelina · 05/07/2008 16:44

Got a text from Franca who is in paradise yet missing mn...

She sends her regards and virtual cannoli or arancini (take your pick) to all. She's trying to escape to a nearby town to get to an internet café so may be on here soon, but then maybe not as it appears she has no intention of going back to Milano.

Buon viaggio Rosa, don't you worry about the easyjet sale as it's for September (grrr). I had got my hopes up too, but no.

PippiCalzelunghe · 05/07/2008 19:41

have a great time rosa!

cannolo for me thanks!!! and a granita!

Rosa · 06/07/2008 19:48

We made it. DD was fantastic Easy Jet I could have killed- NO buggy at Lgw at the plane the furthest gate you could imagine. DD tired I carried her most of the way.As well as pulling hand luggage She fell asleep in the passport queue had to wake her they have to see them awake. Then 25 mins to get the baggage carosel ( I was obviously the last off the plane so heavens knows how long the others would have been waiting!) Then the buggy last thing off the plane (AHHHH). She was going up the wall by then and was asleep before I got out of the sth terminal to go to the North- I managed a M&S sarni and a read of REd before she woke up. Next plane ride was hairy very bad weather dd kept saying more bumpity bump I was hanging on to her for dear life!!! Very happy to see grandparents - she slept in big bed !! Cr*p wather but its good to be here. Glad Franca having a good time think I will be content with tonights roast for now .

OP posts:
gio71 · 07/07/2008 07:06

lol at M&S sarnie and Red. Whereabouts are you in the UK?
Glad Franca's having a lovely time-def cannoli for me
dp was away this weekend so me and ds went to the beach for the weekend, stayed overnight to save the trekking back and forth and to make sure we were there early enough for ombrellone etc at the beach we like to go to-is a kiddies pool and ds looooved it. Got over his water fear and spent all his time splashing up and down the steps. Oh I can't be bothered to work today

Brangelina · 07/07/2008 12:45

Don't feel much like working myself, but that's the norm these days. at proximity to beach.

Rosa, glad you got there OK, I agree about the no buggy nightmare at LGW, it's a total nightmare. The last time we were back DD was playing up in the huge passport queue, I had 2 pieces of hand luggage and no buggy and I had to resort to dragging her along by the hood of her coat to stop her running off in all directions. At one point I let go and she fell over and I heard this audible gasp of disapproval and imagined there'd be a thread on here about an awful mother who was mistreating her child at Gatwick.

hotHELL · 07/07/2008 14:22

ohhh arancino per me, please. crap weather here, but i love it! a bit of wind, then a shower, then a drizzle, etc
i do wish i lived close to the beach though..

Rosa · 07/07/2008 17:47

Hot second the crap weather - Gio glad your ds got over his fear of water - just had to empty out dd wellies and stuff with paper we went puddle jumping ! We are in jeans and sweatshirts here !!!
As for work feel sorry for you both - hope it gets better !

OP posts:
hotHELL · 08/07/2008 19:06

Rosa · 09/07/2008 10:23

Its super crappio here in teh west country have logged on to get simple biscuit ideas so dd and I can do cooking. But made it to beach yest pm was lovely . Heard it was pretty nasty in Italy as well . At least here we sleep with covers and not with ac or ventilatore.... Byeee and have a nice day !

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/07/2008 19:10

Well ladies, I'm sorry to disappoint, but it's beautiful weather here, if it rains it's at night so the mornings are lovely and fresh, there's not too much afa, temperatures are high twenties and there is a lovely cooling breeze. I haven't had to turn on my ac in days, I could actually open the window and feel the benefit (as opposed to opening my window to let the heat in).

I'm sure it will be either rain or super afa again soon so I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

Glad you're having fun Rosa. When does your DH join you?
