You shouldn’t be reversing out.

Senmum1981 · 21/04/2024 10:56

There's nothing you can do, he's perfectly entitled to park there. I would reverse into your drive rather than reverse out.

tissueboxandcandles · 21/04/2024 10:59

There isn't anything you can do, but as pp said, you should not be reversing out.
Always reverse in and drive out.

Itradehorses · 21/04/2024 10:59

Let the air out of his tyres until he gets the message.

FuzzyWuzzyWuzABear · 21/04/2024 11:01

Why does the size of your driveway mean you have to reverse out?

Either way if he's legally parked, there's nothing you can do assuming you've already spoken to him politely?

LIZS · 21/04/2024 11:04

You need to reverse onto your drive when parking. Neighbour's van is not parked illegally.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 21/04/2024 11:04

Can you pay the council to paint a white H mark on the road at the entrance to your drive? Providing he doesn't encroach on that it should be fine, they're usually a bit wider than the drive. But you should be able to reverse in, it's far safer to drive out onto the road.

Why on earth would the council do that?

Besides, they're not legally binding are they?

TeenLifeMum · 21/04/2024 11:10

If you can reverse out you can reverse in. You shouldn’t be reversing onto a road.

Senmum1981 · 21/04/2024 11:12

Council refuse to put a white line across honestly I’m so scared to reverse in tried it once and got frightened

The OP is disabled and needs to be able park on her drive and get off her drive safely. She can tell them her dropped kerb is being encroached on and it's making things difficult. This guy is ignoring her sign, but may abide by lines on the road.

TiptoeTess · 21/04/2024 11:14

Why are you frightened of reversing?

WallaceinAnderland · 21/04/2024 11:15

He is parking legally.

You are the one being dangerous by reversing into traffic without being able to see.

Dareisayiseethesunshine · 21/04/2024 11:16

Imo if you can't park legally ie reversing in then stay off the road...
Bus pass?

Why are you scared to reverse in? Can you practice reversing into spaces in a quiet area of a car park? Does your car have a reversing camera? What about a one off driving lesson to learn to reverse in safely?

SweatyRubble · 21/04/2024 11:17

Sorry OP, the neighbour is parking legally. You should never reverse off a drive, especially one with cars obstructing your view

SweatyRubble · 21/04/2024 11:18

Itradehorses · 21/04/2024 10:59

Let the air out of his tyres until he gets the message.

Great idea - commit a crime against a legally parked car.

That's not your neighbour's problem I'm afraid and even if he agree to park differently, you're still left with the same lack of skills if someone else were to park there.

How about having a few driving lessons to concentrate on the issue? It'll be easier for you as the instructor will have dual controls.

Turquoisa80 · 21/04/2024 11:18

Reverse into your driveway..use your wing mirrors to help. I was rubbish at reverse parking until my DH emphasized this

It's not being encroached upon.

She's just not confident in reversing into her driveway.

stealthninjamum · 21/04/2024 11:20

Op can you describe your drive? I think it’s hard to understand why you would want to reverse out but not in.

could you just park on the road where your neighbour does until your drive is fixed?

Senmum1981 · 21/04/2024 11:20

I think what scares me is the fact everyone speeds down the road fast and I get so flustered in doing it I’m going to moraine I think when the road is quiet and just try to keep calm I think going in backwards is my only portion

OP posts:
LIZS · 21/04/2024 11:20

Reversing is just a matter of practice. Learn to focus on a fixed point to line up and use mirrors.

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 21/04/2024 11:21

OP didn't say she was reversing out into traffic, just that she was worried someone wouldn't see them reversing out because of the vans proximity to her driveway. It stands out when someone round here reverses into their driveway. It's noticeable because of how very rarely I see it.
