No they won't. You could crawl up with your indicators on as much as you like, but if the car behind remains a foot from your bumper, you have no turning circle. IME the slower you go, the closer they drive.
The best you could do is get out to them by which time there is 20 cars up their bum.

Sometimes, you just have to wait a long time for a gap - the same as you do if you're trying to emerge from a country lane on to a very busy main road. It's frustrating, but that's just part of driving.

It might take a while, but there can't be a constant stream without there ever being a quick gap. If there's never a gap, how do you manage to safely reverse out from your drive in rush hour?

What? Everyone should be reversing in and driving out, as that's the safest. I can't believe it's so uncommon that it stands out.

I cannot reverse onto my driveway with my wav because if I did I wouldn't be able to get my wheelchair out unless the front of the vehicle was completely blocking the footpath. Luckily my neighbours are not dicks though and always park so they are not blocking my view

I still wouldn't be able to see through a van. I'd just wait til he moves and then update my insurance and start parking across my drive full time

That's assuming the OP lives in a borough where she's allowed to?

In my borough you have to park in marked parking bays only, and obviously you're not going to have one of those in front of your drive.

Either way, there's no excuse for reversing out and putting her children in the line of speeding traffic first.

Where is the queue behind you going to clear to exactly?

Anyway the point is sometimes it is better to drive in and reverse out. Sometimes vice versa. It really depends on the situation at the time and competent drivers should be able to do both.

Indicate, pull over and let them pass. You could always put your hazard lights on a few seconds before to warn them that you're about to do a manoeuvre.

If the road is not wide enough for them to pass, stick your reversing lights on and let them sort themselves out and shuffle up to give you space. If they've driven up too close and/or ignored your signals, it's their problem when you become an obstacle to them, I'd say.

If you've given people ample warning and not just stopped sharp and slammed your handbrake on, you have every bit as much right to be there and use that piece of road for a standard manoeuvre as anybody else does. If they object to ever having to wait a few seconds in traffic, they should ditch their car and get a helicopter instead.

Exactly!

Some of the excuses here are ridiculous. Unless the OP slams her brakes on when the traffic is bumper to bumper behind her, she'll be able to reverse into her drive.

It's never better to reverse out with your kids in the back of the car, with a van blocking your view.
